The CNN and MSNBC dogs can’t catch a FOX
FOX News has more than political philosophy in common with President Trump, the network has his tendency to weather withering criticism from the competition and come out on top – stronger than ever. The long time leading news network (23 consecutive years and counting) is extending its lead.
In the first quarter of 2025, FOX News continues to hold a commanding lead over its primary competition – CNN and MSNBC. The Rupert Murdock network draws more viewers in both primetime and daytime than MSNBC and CNN combined. What is more notable is that FOX now draws a slightly larger audience than the broadcast networks – ABC, CBS and NBC.
In the first quarter of 2025, FOX averages 3.6 million overall viewers – with 3.1 million primetime viewers and 380,000 viewers in the all-important 25 to 54 year old demographic. Fox’s daytime viewership averages 1.9 million – with 247,000 views in the key demographic.
FOX has enjoyed a 46 percent increase in primetime viewers and an impressive 63 percent increase in the 25 to 54 demographics over the first quarter of 2024.
The cable competition
MSNBC holds a distant second place among the three major cable news networks. It averages 1.0 million primetime viewers, with 96,000 in the 25 to 54 year old demographic. Less that on-third of the FOX audience.
In daytime programming, MSNBC draws in an audience of 593,000 viewers, and 57,000 in the key demographic. This represents a decrease of 18 percent in total primetime viewers and a 21 percent decrease in the key demographic when compared to the first quarter of 2024. In daytime programming, MSNBC lost 27 percent of total viewers and a whopping 30 percent of the 25 to 54 key demographics.
CNN is a pathetic story. The once dominant 24/7 news network remains in third place –but not far behind MSNBC. CNN tops MSNBC with the 25 to 54 key demographics in both primetime and daytime viewership.
In the first quarter, the Ted Turner brainchild drew 572,000 primetime viewers — with 114,000 in the key demographic. Daytime viewing was 449,000 primetime viewers and 78,000in the key demographic.
Despite several management and programming changes over the past year or so, CNN cannot seem to attract viewers from either FOX or MSNBC. The modicum of good news for CNN is that the network went up by 3 percent in primetime views and 7 percent with the 25 to 54 year olds.

With 3.6 million total viewers, FOX slips past the three major broadcast networks – ABC (3.12 million), CBS (3.57 million) and NBC (3.13 million).
In the digital world, FOX also dominates. Fox News Digital received 6.3 billion multiplatform views compared to 290 million for ABC, 1.27 billion for CBS and 890 million for NBC.
Summary
I have written in the past that my general impression of the three cable networks is that FOX leans right, CNN leans left, and MSNBC is way off in left field la-la land. Despite their lean, FOX and CNN offer balance in their political coverage. MSNBC is pure left-wing propaganda from sun up to sun down.
These new numbers also support my long held view that we are a right-of-center nation. Left-wing programming has never been able to compete effectively with conservative programming.
So, there ‘tis.
You have blown Fox’s trumpet in the past and confirmed what is common knowledge. It only proves the gullible minds of some people. Those who prefer soft food propaganda and hunger for gossip like conspiracy theories are Fox only informed and can’t field a solid question on the facts.
Fox is not an independent critical thinkers’ source for truth or lead folks tuning in to ask the important questions.
Fox spoon feeds pablum and just what the right wants to hear. Like Trump expects from his sycophant cabinet members. And, it’s not “just the facts, ma’am”. He can’t handle pure unadulterated truth. His MO is repeat a lie often enough and they’ll believe it’s true.
Fox’s numbers are what they are from those of us tuning in to find out what nonsense to expect from people known to rely on the False News (actual Fake News) Network.
Trump’s White House calls itself the most Transparent of all past administrations.
That’s only half correct, but the rest of the story is withheld and they’ll believe part seen is a false representation. It’s a super spun rendition the Trump Team cooked up.
Larry, you find your own comfort from Trump in the Chief’s spot. He who would be King and sovereign over all he surveys is not but Chief cook and bottle washer. By the way, yo know Putin and friends have Trump’s number. Tariffs, bring it on says Xi.
A real macro economist understand Tariffs and know Trump is lost in another rabbit hole in his brain.
Trump believes that he will be smart if he says”I am smart” enough times. It’s a fact, no matter the times he repeats the words to himself. No one will ever believe he is smart. It’s a bit mean of them when they tell him things translated into the words they know he wants and will accept. Reporting the harsh truth would have harsher consequences for the one telling it.
They all know they surrendered the mind and their freedom of speech the moment they signed Trump’s loyalty contract. Although that contract is not legal and enforceable. It sends a message as clear as Trump’s prenuptial contract with each of his three wives.
If Trump wasn’t as pitiful a man as he is, wealth made him worse, he would laughable as a clown.
The White House presently is a clown show in a three ring circus.
Not quite like a circus. A circus act is better organized, practiced, professional, and humorous entertainment. One can leave the circus in its tent and have no fear it will follow you home, work, school, time off, and on Sundays in the pew behind you.. That is should you be in church on Sundays. In other words. Trump’s mid endeavors are facts that dog us and our nation’s future. When he is through in 3-1/2 years, reparations are a surety. You may not live to witness when law and order returns in this country.
Hopefully, these years with Trump ruining the nation. will prove a teaching time and people will remember, so, this may not happen again.
On the other hand, stupid can’t be cured with a pill.

Trump is right about one thing. Repeating the stupid thing over and over reinforces the stupid facts.
“The CNN and MSNBC dogs can’t catch a FOX” seems aptly named for a dog of a story that don’t hunt. Don’t matter either. Most fox hunters really don’t want their dogs to catch the fox. That gets messy and fosters really bad press. Most would rather the fox “gone to ground” to call off the dogs and call it it a day. And making Larry’s title out of place, albeit a vain attempt at cuteness. Larry being so old might have missed that fox hunting is only allowed in a few countries like the US, but England, except for Northern Ireland, gave this up in the early 2000’s. As have many countries. I rather prefer steeplechase for similar excitement; the one at the Paris Olympics was stellar. If they do it again, highly recommended.
Larry just loves to broadcast FOX success in its little pond of cable news. Not news, but cable news. Not even sure what he’s after here? Telling us that FOX is the only place conservatives get their new? That, except for FOX, conservative cable news sucks? Here’s where people get their news? Not sure even what his “angle” is?
In the past he would skew the pooch by leaving out broadcast news and digital/print media. He normally pitched FOX News against other cable news channels only. I kept mentioning this and he kept calling me names. As is his way to pick a fight while blaming his perceived adversary as starting it. However, this time FOX actually beat broadcast in prime time, not news, but primetime, a first for FOX so Larry is finally howling about it like a dog at the moon (to keep dogging his title :>). Just beat them by a tiny bit, but apparently close counts in ratings and horist shoes. Funny since he would certainly be on the bandwagon to swear such msm outlets are leftist and the combined viewership makes FOX look like shit. Oh yeah, he left that out. I guess by pitching the FOX win against broadcast, Larry has opened the door to a apples-to-apples view of that. With that in mind, here’s the straight skinny as Larry is afraid to share:
Fox News: 3.63 million
CBS: 3.57 million
NBC: 3.13 million
ABC: 3.12 million
ESPN: 3.03 million
Fox: 1.63 million
MSNBC: 1.26 million
CNN: 635,000
As you can see, FOX is a juggernaut against any other conservative cable outlet – they don’t even make the list. They double leftist viewers for MSNBC and CNN. Huge. But the diversity of sources for leftist viewers abounds. 6 to one against conservative choices. Even sports channel ESPN comes closer to FOX. That’s right, we have diversity in news sources, and you have a monopolistic single outlet without diversity of acceptable sources.
Does not take a rocket scientist to see that it’s fox/FOX’s 5.263M against…wait for it….wait for it: 11.7.
FYI: America has 327 million adults; apparently 17M watch the news and prime time so WTF is even important about this? Only in the mind of Larry.
There is no doubt of FOX dominance in the small space of Cable News Opinion and Personalities. Everything Larry says is spot on in that little fish bowl. There is also no doubt their numbers, and others, fell post the election too. The real question is will NewsMax break out. In the beginning they beat FOX in viewers for a quarter and then faltered. For 1q25, they grew at a 50% rate but still don’t hit the chart with a .3M for the q. And there’s OAN but it never mattered. And Tucker’s TCN streaming service is….. where it should be. The other question is how does FOX rate against the combination of cable/broadcast/digital/print media if one was really interested in who’s who in the zoo of how people get their news. Isn’t that the real point? Who is supplying people with their news and where do the people get it. You can’t find that by counting who’s the best at cable fake news and opinion, from any channel.
