Jim Clyburn blames press for Democrat’s low favorable rating. WHAT?

Democrats have been fraught with problems in the past year. First, they could no longer conceal President Biden’s serious cognitive decline. With polls indicating that President Trump would handily beat Biden, Democrats had to dump him – as unceremoniously as that was.
Given the short time to the election, Democrats had little time to pick anyone other than Vice President Harris as the replacement standard bearer. Most party leaders saw it as a weak – but unavoidable — choice.
The second major problem for Democrats was their humiliating defeat in the presidential election. Yes, the popular vote was relatively close, but the breadth of Trump’s victory was unanticipated and staggering. He won the popular vote for the first time — and carried every battleground state. He improved his numbers among every significant demographic group – including Blacks, Hispanics, men, young voters and even women. He increased his previous numbers in every state and virtually every county in America.
The third major problem for Democrats was the collapse of their favorable rating – dipping down to an unprecedented 27 percent in recent surveys. This seems to have been the result of a Party falling into chaos and an inability to act – to find a way to take on Trump.
These major factors have left the Democratic Party leaderless, fractured and in state of disarray. Most observers see the losses and setbacks as the result of strategic mistakes – primarily undertaking an extremely myopic and excessively aggressive negative campaign against Trump. It was a continuation of the never-Trump resistance movement begun in 2016. As the demonization of Trump’s strategy failed over and over, Democrats did not change their strategy – but doubled and tripled down. What they did not do was propose an alternative positive agenda to address the critical issues.
South Carolina Democrat Congressman Jim Clyburn does not believe the Democrats’ current situation is due to clinging to unpopular issues, employing bad strategies and poor communication from the source.
Appearing on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” with Lawrence O’Donnell, Clyburn laid the entire blame on … the media. According to Clyburn, “… I think the message coming from the Democratic Party is a good message. The problem we’ve got, I’ll say, is that we have to depend upon the media to deliver it.”
With the exception of MSNBC, which Clyburn said did “a great job with this (Democrat messaging)”, he placed the blame for the Democrats’ loss squarely on the shoulders of the Fourth Estate. He singled out the Washington Post under billionaire Jeff Bezos.
“… we have the Washington Post, for instance, caving to this wannabe dictator and we’ve got other media entities that seem to rather push a narrative that will bring eyes to their newspapers or to their television sets and not really give a fair hearing or reporting to what we (Democrats) are doing.”
With the strong left-wing bias among the major media, Clyburn’s contention that the press was somehow failing to report the Democrats’ policies, positions and messages in a favorable light is preposterous.
In fact, the major news outlets were giving Democrat leaders and advocates disproportionate airtime and print space. Many so-called news outlets and reporters served as public relations and propaganda cronies for Democrat messaging. News shows were disproportionately packed with Democrats and anti-Trumpers.
One of the major assets of the Democratic Party has been the willingness of large portions of both the print and electronic media to echo and amplify Democrat messaging.
Democrat messages got to the voters over and over. The problem for the Party was that no matter how many times the talking heads and the newspaper folks endorsed Democrat messages, the voters simply did not believe or embrace them.
Voters rejected the Democrats’ excuses for open borders. They did not experience that wonderful economy Biden and his Party were peddling. They did not approve of Democrat support for men in women’s sports and locker rooms. And … they were done with the constant and extreme demonization of Trump and the entire Republican Party.
In other words, the media was working overtime to report, spin and amplify the Democrat talking points. But no matter how many times the public heard them, the Democrat messages did not resonate. The folks in crossover America rejected them. It was the Democrats’ MESSAGE– not the messengers — that failed and handed the election to Trump.
Clyburn is a smart guy – but you have to wonder how such a smart guy can be so wrong. If Democrat strategists agree with Clyburn’s contention — that the Democrats’ only problem was a lack of media support — it will be a long time before they can even start finding effective ways to address their Party’s losses and low polling numbers.
So, there ‘tis.
Recently, I penned: “How are those polls going? Perhaps time to run some more “look how bad Joe Biden was” stories…..”
I guess the most newsworthy aspect of Trumusk’s first 100 days is Jim Clyburn’s musings on what Democrats did and are doing wrong in the past, present, and future elections.
I guess I shoulda listened to my own advice: be careful what you ask for :>)
Who cares what James Clyburn views are today; let’s talk a year from now about what he thinks then.
This is what happens in a Country, a Business or a Corporation.
Unless it is a sole proprietor Business or a Monarchy lead by the King, or Dictator
( Xi ) The good and the Bad of the body are followed by the ruler.
In the case of the Democracy held by the United States there are checks & balances kept in
place to allow the free flow of the best ideas in America.
This is were the Breakdown in Democracy came to play as 50% of the population
and News were Spoon Feeding the Democratic Populous.
Then Fools like Clooney and the news are shocked by what they see.
This article is what happens ANYWHERE when someone is surrounded by YESSSS People!
Jim Clyburn is just too Stupid to understand this!
Philip K Dick quotes
“The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words.”
“If you can get them to see the world as you do, they will think as you do.”
“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.”
I don’t think he had progressives or democrats in mind, but it is what it is. Poor, dumb minions.
There you go again, Larry. Simple binary thinking. Good Republican, bad Democrat. That’s you using a broad stroke generalization and feeling comfortable with your assessment. You are not Paul Harvey who gave us “the test of the story” and gave us a clearer picture of the story through the lenses of context.
Context is an interesting concept. Trump try’s to justify a lie or contradiction to the record by the excuse, “you took me out of context”. That a lame excuse when people other than Trump, but Trump get away with his misuse of “context”as a concept.
The only context that applies in Trumps case is the consistency in his behavior that is not telling the whole truth. He changes direction with his less than well thought through lies with a succession of more convoluted reasoning falsehoods.
Democrats are rightfully discouraged, the lost an election and Majority in both houses .
We who are sensible Americans and tied up in political knots while Trump has been misappropriating powers the presidency does not afford. As we watch him break norms and conventions that sustains our democracy and enables government to work as designed.
Because Trump 2.0 has become a regime of vengeance and retaliation for every person or program on Trump’s done me wrong list from Trump 1.0.
That’s no way to run a railroad. Undeterred by his inefficiency in the real estate business he managed with his dad, Fred, acting as a safety net, to make a name for himself and accumulate debt as he bought and gambled.
Democrats know, as Trump likes to comment, a lot of people don’t know this, Trump’s presidency is unconventional in a universe that depends on conventional norms and expectations. Course corrections in government are needed following the normal processes.
What Trump/Musk/Vance have done
today amounts to violently follow their emotions without detailed planing and outcome assessment.
Case in point is the Trump Tariff War. It’s jerky
jerky insane. He talked tariffs in his 1.0 term but didn’t get assuring nailing it down.
