Why Is Trump Arming Ukraine Again?
President Trump is betraying his base by acting against his 2024 campaign promise to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Instead, he has announced supplying Ukraine with weapons to fight Russia or, as he put it, to defend against Russia. Trump has also threatened to impose scathing sanctions on Russia if it doesn’t agree to a peace deal in the next 50 days. Is Trump really in charge of these decisions? Is he being manipulated?
On July 14, combat veteran and conservative commentator Col. Douglas Macgregor joined Judge Andrew Napolitano to discuss President Trump’s recent announcement that the U.S. will sell more weapons to European NATO members that would send them to Ukraine to use against Russia. Col. Macgregor commented that getting weapons from Trump doesn’t change the reality on the battlefield in Ukraine, where Russia continues to gain ground. At the same time, it makes Trump lose credibility as a peacemaker.

Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of GA went on Steve Bannon’s talk show to remind that President Trump ran his campaign on the promise of no more foreign wars and cutting American involvement and funding.
Greene expressed her disappointment with the fact that Trump is now following the advice of neocon warmongers like Senator Lindsey Graham (SC). She said that she suggested an amendment before the rules committee that would stop the supply of munitions to Ukraine, but Republicans on the committee voted it down.
Former Republican Congressman Ron Paul of Texas weighed in on the issue late last week and said that Trump has turned Biden’s failed war in Ukraine into his own failed war as he continues to arm Ukraine against his campaign promise of ending the war on day one.
It is worth noting that six months into his second term as the President of the United States, Trump still hasn’t met with Russia’s President Putin one on one to discuss the Ukraine war. He has met only the NATO side of leaders and their proxy President Zelensky of Ukraine. Even before taking the White House on January 20, Trump had expressed his plans to meet Putin soon. But the failure to do so and being reduced to talking to Putin on phone seems to indicate the deep influence of the anti-peace establishment over all his foreign policy decisions.
Independent journalist Gregory Latham Jr. of Pit Pass Network was one of the many who pointed at Trump’s CIA Director John Ratcliffe as the one manipulating Trump. Calling for Ratcliffe to be fired, Latham questioned why Trump cannot see that he is being manipulated by his CIA Director as he posted a video of Ratcliffe’s expression during a recent meeting where Trump announced renewed military support for Ukraine.
Many MAGA supporters, however, have also spoken to justify President Trump’s latest decision on arming Ukraine via NATO by arguing that Europe is paying for these weapons so it’s not a decision damaging to America.
