Survey: Most Kamala Harris Supporters Unaware of Her Key Views

Survey: Most Kamala Harris Supporters Unaware of Her Key Views

Did you know that Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) wants to abolish ICE? That she supports voting rights for death row inmates? That she was a co-sponsor for the Green New Deal?

According to a recent survey, neither did her constituents.

A new poll published by the Media Research Center (MRC) suggests between 71% and 86% of Democrats and Independents are unaware of the following facts about Kamala Harris:

  • She supports a reduction in police budgets.
  • She believes that “entering the US illegally” should not be considered a crime.
  • She supports “Medicare for All.”
  • She wants death row inmates to be able to vote in elections.
  • When serving as President Joe Biden’s “Border Czar,” she never once visited a conflict zone.
  • She was one of the first co-sponsors of the Green New Deal and even called for a “climate pollution fee.”
  • She was rated the nation’s “most liberal senator” in 2019 (this ranking has since been removed from government websites).
  • She supports the idea of reparation payments in the form of monthly tax credits to individuals of a qualifying race.
  • She backed an idea to use government funds to bail out protestors in 2020.
  • She wants to abolish ICE.

Considering Harris’s popularity as the leading (and only) Democratic presidential candidate, it’s more than worrisome that so many of her constituents are unaware of the above facts. Let’s take a look at her views on Immigration and Customs Enforcement, of which 77% of survey respondents were unaware:

“Listen, I think there’s no question that we’ve got to critically examine ICE and it’s role and the way that it is being administered and the work it is doing and we need to probably think about starting from scratch because there is a lot that is wrong,” Kamala told NBC’s Kasie Hunt. ‘First of all, I don’t think that the government should be in the position of separating families – and that is clearly part of what is happening at ICE and DHS… [ICE’s] mission is very much in question and has to be reexamined.”

The NBC interview was filmed in San Diego, California near the Otay Mesa Detention center, a medium security prison overlooking the US/Mexico border. Harris visited the facility in June 2018 to speak with detained migrant mothers who had been separated from their children.

Considering the fact that Harris recently accepted the DNC’s nomination for presidential candidacy, you would think the media would be abuzz with any and all opinions voiced in her past. Surprisingly, as noted in an article published on CatholicVote.org, major networks ABC, CBS, and NBC have blatantly avoided eight of the ten issues mentioned above in the past month.

“This poll was conducted in August, when the Vice President was receiving the most intense news coverage of her political career,” explains Rich Noyes of the NewsBusters blog. “Yet our survey of Democratic voters and pro-Biden Independents, who say their top source for news about the campaign are these same networks, shows the damage caused by today’s one-sided news coverage…The fact that huge majorities don’t even know about these issues is damning evidence of the media’s selective and partisan approach to covering the 2024 presidential campaign.”

It seems to me that the media’s reticence is a strategy to make Harris – once the most liberal senator in the US – attractive to a broader audience, many of whom feel they have no alternative but to vote for Harris in the upcoming election.

Harris was a shoo-in for the candidacy when President Joe Biden announced he would not be running in the election. She accepted the DNC nomination unopposed and without running in a primary. Not surprisingly, the Dems even decided to exclude a Palestinian speaker from the convention itself (presumably to avoid tough conversations).

Looking at all of these facts together, Harris’s entire campaign seems a bit…fabricated.

The MRC poll referenced in this article involved 800 registered Democrats and 400 registered Independents who voted for President Joe Biden in 2020. It was conducted during the first week of this month and published on August 14th, 2024.

Alice, I agree, we will vote for Harris only to find out what she stands for after the election. It’s a weird Pelosi-like “you have to vote for it before you read it to find out what’s in it.” But with the timing, there is no other way.

No, let’s see you write this same story for Trump who has a strange set of plans and ideas too.

But, on Harris, you have shown many of her ideas from the past, most from 1981. I am not sure why you chose not to update them where appropriate, but they are her ideas from 81 as you noted.

Since 2020, she has been part of the Biden administration and, as such, her proposals align with Biden’s and will continue to do so until 2025. She has also modified many stances since her joining Joe and entering this race. For example,
She is not planning a fracking ban which I am against. These fucks put proprietary chemicals into our Earth and that’s risky business for us not to know what they are pumping down there. Plus, I believe they killed my well via ground disturbance when we had a house in fracking country.

She is not an advocate of defunding police anymore.

She doesn’t support Single Payer Healthcare anymore. I am not sure what that is, but I NOW support Bernie’s Universal Healthcare only because the market, the system is completely broken and can’t be fixed. ObamaCare is a band aid doing the right thing, the wrong way. It’s not a free market and I say, fuck it, let’s all have Medicare. Or better.

    She’s for expanding ICE now.

Now, Alice is right in my opinion, and we don’t have a clue what she will do in once in office, we have no track record really. However, a funny thing happens to Presidents. The people vote for them and they listen to the people more often than not. Not always, but mostly. Also, first termers eye the second term and the middle versus the fringe, that can soften radical change.

Also, people are allowed to change their minds. You folks used to nail Clinton for flip flopping based to the polls and pandering to the mob. He used to deftly defer your diatribe and do what wanted to, listening to the people. As long as he did that, he could feel good about the result even if his “steadfast in the storm. I liked it.

Also, I consider myself a moderate, but my stance on the issues above looks pretty hard left leaning. I think fracking and healthcare deserve that. They are out of control. Fracking with mystery chemicals is really stupid. Healthcare is totally broken beyond repair. So I am leaning harder in there, I think for good reason. They told us coal was cool, they could make better what they left behind, and they scraped the dirt from the mountain top, dug out the coal, put the dirt back and voila, smaller grass covered mountain. Forty years later and it’s still grass covered; trees cannot grow there. So, yeah, it’s not a disaster. But it’s not a forest either.

Alice, good perspective IMO. You could have done better without harm to you point if you updated it though. It was as easy as Duck-Duck-go on “has Harris changed her mind.” If you see my point, you still end up at the same point —- upon election day —– we still will not know.

After reading the Frank bullshit I rest my case

    • Katie

I agree. Frank is saying Harris has changed her mind. Yes, she has, since about two weeks ago. Liberals think she will stick to her new stances. However, anyone with more than one brain cell knows that if elected (God forbid), her old stances will be back BIG TIME. Why are liberals so easily fooled? Uneducated, brainwashed, brain dead, head buried in the sand? Probably all of them.

      • frank stetson

Katie, since I called it out, I am pretty sure I am not fooled. And if you think I will be fooled again, no, I won’t.

I am pretty sure my distrust of anything Harris is still less than my distrust of anything Trump.

Remember how ez obamacare was to fix. Lie. How about that wall that Mexico paid for: lie. Or that fantastic Infrastructure Week that lasted four years without infrastructure improvements —- yet another lie. And yet, you still vote for him.

Uneducated? Pretty sure I run circles round you on that one. As does my entire family —- cept one and he’s catching up. brainwashed, perhaps. Braindead — hardly. head buried in the sand; you are voting for a felon who sexual abuses women. One he’s liable for, a dozen he’s accused of. Even peeping at teens in his beauty pageants.

There is no proof that she will backtrack on every or even one issue. There is lots of proof of all Presidents leaning to the middle especially in their first term. But as I said, and Alice reiterated, due to timing alone, we will not know for Harris until she is inaugurated as the first female African-Asian-American President in all history.

That said, Trump’s plan is a ridiculous set of complaints, laments, platitudes and few policies and programs. There is absolutely no reason to believe anything he says and every reason not to. His legacy is shit. He main claim to fame is the economy where he gave away money running up the largest deficit and debt in US history while most of his other economic statistics suck pondwater. Even before the pandemic where his response ranks 222 out of 238 nations, the worst record of any developed nation and where he murdered 250,000 of our citizens with his malfeasance, fake solutions, and fake news (it will go away soon).

Yeah, I am voting for Harris. Or a rock. ABT. Weird. And you go ahead and vote for the oldest candidate and President ever.

Well, that’s Archie’s unsupported, unsubstantiated, uncollaborated opinion.

Nice you read it though, appreciate the feedback since Larry, and now Joe, believes no one reads them so I guess they don’t have the straight skinny.

Come back when you can actually prove your opinion since everything factual came from the link. I believe they source it all so you can tell us where CNN got it wrong. As to my opinion in this, so be it. I think you differ from experts and pundits from both sides on the aisle there in that most think they can prove we are a centrist nation — so far. But hey, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

But on the facts, I am fuckin spot on, and you have proved dick otherwise.

People Voting for Camal is the equivalent of a room full of Blind People

Hopefully you and yours will be put right in November when Harris wins both votes, Popular and Electoral College. Your guy was below par in 2016 but you all swallowed his line, attached was the hook and a weighted sinker.
Still below par and seen cheating on the links former and ex-pres is thinking his third try at the big tee will be the charm. He has cheated in golf, income tax, business deals, and in politics the same lies upon lies. He has not won the popular vote in 2016 and 2020.
After knowing what Trump is from the way he speaks, how he conducts himself, and that he thinks only to save himself from a jail term, what on this green planet makes anyone on the right see in Old Man Trump? Nasty, creepy, sleazy, smelly, gross individual as this manchild is known to be has no place in the people’s White House. Visiting The nation’s Capital including the Executive Mansion 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is an amazing uplifting experience. Trump occupying the White House again would stain that historic beautiful National Monument and be a travesty to its importance.
It makes no difference which party Trump used in his want for power and prestige, Democrat he once was or Republican he claims to be, he is neither . Trump is using people, those he cares nothing for except their potential grift value and confidence schemes payout.
He is unscrupulous to his core and untrustworthy in the most extreme measure.
On November 5, 2024 what does this nation’s people when they vote, a more secure life for us all or bragging rights for a Party win and four years struggling and losing ground on all fronts.
Trumps shortcomings and failures bear costs. We all will be expected to pay the duty on the sum of losses. When the burden should by all rights be the Republicans’ responsibility to make that payment.
Trump in US Politics began as an experiment in leadership at the federal level. A so called business approach was the idea on the right. So, we have endured going on nine years with The Trump Project and it’s high time the experiment report is made public and the ultimate test is given. November 5 is test day. Unfortunately, the Electoral College will have the last word when scores are announced. We who are the real people prove the popular count’s winner.
What’s a College have todo with “we, the people’s choice!
Say what the right will about Harris 20+ years in the past, her core strengths are her belief in working for others wellbeing. She has not changed in that regard. Your guy Trump is a political chameleon. He changes in ways he thinks will charm the crowd where he is at the moment. Worrisome is his penchant for change that takes him lower and lower in unintelligible language land.
He is not now nor has he been the kind of a person the nation needs, wants, and looks to lead our country through this worlds present dangers.
Alice, what does UNITY truly look like? How do you define a Patriot? Democracy, what makes a nation’s people democratic? Other folks talked with and asked for answers to these questions. Unsurprisingly
Their answers came from their political persuasion, Right, Left, and middle (independent) each of a kind politically answered in predictable phrases and wordings that instantly identified which political opinion they held. And, the particulars of that opinion they were not well informed. But, they were determined believers in their opinion’s correctness.
Unity is a coming together in agreement while accepting others’ differences and persons as they are. Any value a nation can claim for itself is made with justice when the understanding of us all is that, it is the SUM of US.
