MN Democrat Lawmaker to Resign after Conviction for Burglary
When it comes to Democrats of the day, the words “lawmaker” and “lawbreaker” are often synonyms. In the latest case that erased the line between the two words, Democrat Senator Nicole Mitchell of the Minnesota State Senate was convicted of burglary and she has announced her resignation.
The news of Senator Mitchell’s announcement to resign from her office broke on Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) on Monday, July 21. The story briefly touched on Mitchell’s recent conviction on two felony charges of burglary that go back to April 2024, when she was arrested at her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes.
Senator Mitchell’s resignation news comes after significant political pressure that started right after her arrest. Republicans in the state senate filed an ethics complaint against her to unseat her, but her Democrat colleagues came to her defense, arguing that she deserves due process and is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. Thus, Mitchell kept her senate seat.
Now that she has been convicted, more than a year after her arrest, Democrats have realized that Mitchell’s case is defenseless and may cause further damage to the party’s reputation. So they decided to act as if they care about ethics. Accordingly, MPR reported:
Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, DFL-St. Paul, made clear after the verdict that Mitchell needed to go. She said Mitchell previously told colleagues she would resign her seat if a jury found her guilty.
Yet, the elected Democrat felon is not going away without one last rip off. As reported in The Western Journal (July 23), Mitchell means to resign by August 4, despite having been convicted for a week by the time her announcement to resign came out. The story cited Minnesota Republican Party Chair Alex Plechash, who bashed Mitchell for delaying her resignation. He also hinted at the reason behind Mitchell’s choice of timing:
“Nicole Mitchell was convicted of felony burglary last week. Instead of doing the right thing and stepping down immediately, she now plans to stick around for another two weeks — just long enough to collect another taxpayer-funded paycheck.” Conservatives on social media didn’t miss the point as they called out Senator Mitchell for her criminal conviction. J. M. Peterman of MN connected Mitchell’s felony to her past advocacy for felons to let them hold public office even when they are on probation.
The left-leaning Axios reported on Mitchell’s conviction with political anxiety as it foresaw the possibility of Democrats losing control of the state senate in case her seat was won by a Republican in a special election following her resignation. Currently, the Democrats have only one seat majority in the MN State Senate, i.e. 34-33. Mitchell’s departure means a legislative deadlock in the chamber.

Yup, this story is pretty ho hum with lady breaking into Stepmother’s house, who has Alzheimer’s and lives alone, to “check on her” and “retrieve a few personal effects” from her recently deceased father. Didn’t want to disturb the Alzheimer’s victim was the rationale. Cept the prosecutor pointed out, with pictures, she was dressed in burglar black 101 complete with a flashlight with a sock over it for dimming. Her telling police: “clearly I am not good at this,” did not help. Pretty sure the prosecutor couldn’t say she tried to lie to police to cover her disgrace….
Too bad, we know what’s going on. She felt some stuff belonged to her, her stepmother would disagree for some reason, who cares, and she decided to boost the stuff herself. Seen it, felt it, been there. Death, in-laws, step-whatever’s, and even siblings have inheritance issues, guilt, and blame, in abundance, and sometimes go over the edge about it.
She’s gone, the extra week’s paycheck is chump change especially for team MAGA willing to spend $1M for a $200K charter run because they like military transport for the photo opportunities. I think MN can handle a week’s pay for her to clean out her desk. Timing wise, she had to wait for conviction, and the few more days of pay are chump change.
And because The Dumpster is fair and balanced in his un-reporting, I am sure he wants you to know:
• Glen Casada: Former Tennessee Republican House Speaker, convicted in May 2025 on 17 federal corruption charges, including theft, bribery, wire fraud, and money laundering. Guilty, guilty, guilty.
• George Santos: Disgraced former US Republican Representative from New York, sentenced to 7 years in prison in April 2025 for wire fraud and aggravated identity theft after pleading guilty to stealing campaign staff IDs and misusing campaign funds. Guilty, guilty, guilty.
• Donald Trump pardoned former New York Representative Michael Grimm on May 28, 2025. Grimm, a Republican, represented Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn from 2011 to 2015. He pleaded guilty to felony tax fraud in 2014 for underreporting revenue and paying some employees off-the-books at a restaurant he co-owned called Healthalicious before entering Congress.
But hey, for all you who keep score and realize it’s more than just the Democrat criminals pulled from The Dumpster whose own trash makes him cash, here is the Federal List of partisan criminals logged in for all time. I will let The Dumpster sort though the trash here, he loves the deep dive into The Dumpster, but pretty sure, it’s a virtual tie between Republicans and Democrats. It’s just that The Dumpster is too stupid, too incompetent, too unexperienced, to look. He’s a failed writer looking for a new career. The poetry did not work out. Go figure. So he Americanized his Muslim name, and began work for Joe at PBP. For the list, I did a “find me” on both D- and R- and the score was 50D and 48R proving what The Dumpster cannot mentally fathom: there’s crooks everywhere. Just as there are a number of US Pakistani’s, like The Dumpster, convicted in America every year. Matter of fact, Pakistani Americans may be more criminal than our citizens. Bet you won’t find that factoid in The Dumpster.
But for The Dumpster to find a MN Senator broke intro Stepmom’s house to get some items from dead-Dad is pretty ho-hum crime. For The Dumpster to spew the crap he spews based on that is baseless, unprofessional, and Joe is wasting his money paying this guy who states:
“When it comes to Democrats of the day, the words “lawmaker” and “lawbreaker” are often synonyms” which is proven totally false based on Federal results from the dawn of our Republic, party speaking. BUSTED
“her Democrat colleagues came to her defense, arguing that she deserves due process and is innocent until proven guilty in the court of law” as if that’s a Democratic principle and not a principle enshrined in our Constitution that you will not find in The Dumpster. How did he become a citizen and not know this? BUSTED
“So they decided to act as if they care about ethics” as if Republicans act any different. Can you say: SANTOS? BUSTED
The Dumpster is a liar as proven once again, over and over, based on facts, not his style of make-believe. BUSTED BUSTED BUSTED, guilty, guilty, guilty.
In general, both sides have crooks, both sides react similarly. Why? Because it’s our fucking laws and we are a nation of laws no matter what fucking trash you find in The Fucking Dumpster.
I spell my name: danger. And being frank with the truth is a real danger to liars like The Dumpster.
OK Frank, Thats’ fine. Now do a list on the Democrats. Lets see where you really stand.
Big Al, what does 45LC mean?
Great question and the one I first asked that Dempsey avoids like the plague. My discovery, from above, that you missed: “For the list, I did a “find me” on both D- and R- and the score was 50D and 48R proving what The Dumpster cannot mentally fathom: there’s crooks everywhere.” Why do a list on just Democrats? Or just Republicans for that matter? That was the point of my comment that Dempsey is just too stupid to ask the kinds of questions you did.
Thanks since I forgot to link the source: WIKI: *https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_federal_politicians_convicted_of_crimes*
The federal crimes list, by politicians, by party, goes back to 1776 and I used “find me” to get to Dems and Repubs as summarized above. Guess you missed that too. Probably my poor writing.
Where do I stand? Sorry, thought I was clear
1. Dempsey is a lying sack of shit, poor journalist, should be fired. Any Muslim that changes his name to look Irish is untrustworthy.
2. There are crooks in both parties, neither party can claim to be better in that.
Hope that helps you see what a poor opinion writer of the jaded, biased, partisan type The Dumpster is. And yes, I am a liberal, but I addressed all sides of this story, and b e y o n d,
God is still alive and kicking on this Liberal channel.
