Connecticut Democrats Target Homeschooling Parents in New Law

Democrats hate families having the freedom to educate their children at home instead of sending them to leftist schools that indoctrinate them for years along the liberal political and social agenda. Therefore, they continue to attack the parental freedom of homeschooling. In the blue state of Connecticut, a new law has brought a new set of regulations specifically targeting homeschooling parents in the state.

The bill HB 5468, titled “An Act Concerning The Provision Of Parent-managed Learning,” was sponsored by six Democrats of the State House and was staunchly opposed by Republican lawmakers in the state at every stage of its progress. But the Democrat majority in the State House and Senate outnumbered the Republican votes and the bill passed both chambers before it was signed into law by Connecticut’s Democrat Governor Ned Lamont on May 26.

As LifeSite News reported (May 29), the new legislation mandates background checks for all parents who apply to homeschool their children, making it appear that the regulation is meant only for preventing those parents from homeschooling who are abusive to their kids. However, the language of the legislation gives sweeping powers to the state to deny homeschooling applications of any parents on the basis of mere allegations of abuse whether or not substantiated. Even minor complaints of neglect toward a child can result in denying parents the right to homeschool their child. Any parents under investigation for alleged abuse or neglect are also not eligible for homeschooling under the new law even if the investigation hasn’t concluded and found them guilty.

The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) called it a terrible bill whose signing marks the first regression of homeschool freedom in the modern homeschool movement. The organization wrote on its X page that it would continue to pursue appropriate legal action against this legislation while working with allies in other states against such attacks on the parental freedom to homeschool their children.

Before HB 5468 was passed by the state legislature, a public hearing was held on March 3 at the state’s Legislative Office Building in Hartford. Concerned parents and other homeschooling advocates flooded the hearing in opposition to the bill that vindictively allows targeting parents who choose to take their kids out of the public school system in the state. A CT Insider news video showed a West Hartford resident calling the proposed legislation a witch hunt.

In April, Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) accepted a request filed by the National Home Education Legal Defense (NHELD) to conduct an independent investigation into Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families (DCF). The Connecticut Centinal (April 22) reported that the complaint followed “the recent rash of abuse, neglect, captivity, and deaths of children in the State, sparked by cases in Waterbury and New Britain.”

Sergeant News Network, a MAGA conservative X account, slammed the DCF in CT for failing to protect children while the state’s government was legislating to target parents for homeschooling their kids.

Dempsey continued practice inferior journalism without second sourcing his screeds to oil his way across the pages relying on untested social media, inaccurate influencers, and his warped partisan hatred of much of America is a shameful practice that should be shunned for lack of principles, lies, and more. The man prints misinformation that can harm. He boldly goes where no journalist of even meager adequacy would dare to sink. Joe Gilbertson not only supports these lies; I think he pays for them.

On this story, I think Dempsey is spot on regarding the law as written (poorly) and a bigtime liar to tie it to Democrats in such a hateful, deceitful fashion. As is his way. As is the way Joe prescribes. A shameful way that should be shunned for misinformation and purposeful lies.

Dempsey seems to believe that checking for child abuse before homeschooling is a bad thing. Why? The same guy who wants to be all over parents of trains seems to want to look the other way on child abuse. Just hide it with homeschooling. He never says we needs laws like this, just that are written better. He seems against the very concept of a law helping to protect from child abuse. A child abuser protector or CAP of sorts. Don’t find them very often. He says the concept of the law is wrong. I think he is wrong on that. If we make child abuse easier by allowing abusers to take kids out of the public eye, hide them behind closed doors, what kind of neighbors are we? What kind of American citizens are we? We know about Dempsey’s citizenship, what does it say about the rest of us?

Dempsey believes this is a bad law; I agree with that expecting it to be overturned in the courts because it is written so poorly. The difference is I want to replace it with a well-written version and expect other states to adopt. Dempsey wants to do away with the law and let those abusers homeschool without scrutiny.

The fact that it’s a badly written law does not mean it’s a bad idea. I would rather not allow child abusers escape the law buy burying their kids at home. I would rather these folks face the law for what they do. Dempsey seems to want to allow abusing parents to avoid the public, avoid the law, just keep those kids at home, not safe, and not sound. And he blames Democrats for going after child abusers. Weird? Dempsey begins; “Democrats hate families having the freedom to educate their children at home instead of sending them to leftist schools that indoctrinate them for years along the liberal political and social agenda. Therefore, they continue to attack the parental freedom of homeschooling.” This is utter bullshit. Dempsey offers no evidence, no foundation, and exhibits his complete stupidity about most of America, our culture and our history. Otherwise, he would have known that homeschooling was “invented” by liberals in the 60’s and 70’s, counter culture, remember? And that conservatives came to that realization in the 80’s and 90’s. He could check with Horist on that, Larry knows education, especially off-public. Today, one out of 4 homeschoolers have liberal parents. Not the majority, but a sizeable, significant, meaningful slice that Dempsey ignores in his hatred of America, hatred of liberals. He has you terrified we will trans your kids, now he wants you to be terrified we will stop homeschooling; that’s not even what this badly written law is about; it’s about limiting child abusers risks for children. If you don’t abuse your kids, this law has zero effect on you. Why does Dempsey want to protect abusers, why does he not offer an alternative instead of just wanting to shitcan this law. I just can’t understand why Dempsey wants to allow child abusers to homeschool. What is wrong with this chap?

I recently proved Dempsey BUSTED on his climate change POS article; this one is similarly twisted, perhaps not as bad, but why does Gilbertson lower the bar for PBP quality like this? He certainly cannot believe these lies. Or does he support them wishing to keep child abusers behind closed doors and out of public scrutiny? This, and the climate change lie of a story are egregious fabrications of the truth. On purpose. With feeling.

Dempsey lies when he says: “marks the first regression of homeschool freedom in the modern homeschool movement.” Not true, just close. Not first, that’s a lie; three states prohibit homeschooling based on sexual abuse convictions, they are third. Every state has prohibitions on child abusers in general. Dempsey is a liar, again: two states, including CT, have CT-like laws. Arkansas is the third, close, but self-serve and the guilty can petition for waiver. I expect most states to adopt similar, albeit legal, laws in the near future. It just is American to do anything we can to stop child abuse.

There’s lots of rule and regs for homeschooling. Many states already have parent-education homeschooling minimums, formal assessments of progress, state mandated subjects, and even the dreaded vaccination requirements. CT is not exactly the first “regressor.” Dempsey lies again.

Dempsey also lies when he says: “In April, Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) accepted a request filed by the National Home Education Legal Defense (NHELD) to conduct an independent investigation into Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families (DCF).” This is not true. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has not launched a direct investigation into the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF). The DOJ previously reviewed a citizen complaint filed by NHELD against the agency and forwarded it HHS for review. No known update.. No investigation announced.

IMO, Dempsey is right on the law itself; it is badly written to the point of being easily overturned in court. Sad part is that even a novice can see it. I honestly question their ability to govern based on the writing of this law. Minor complaints can result in denying parents homeschooling the same way as being a registered sex offender or child abuser can. These complaints can be dismissed and still count under this law. Even those under investigation, aka alleged, but not proven, might not be granted the right to homeschool their child. There is no arbitration process to protest any of these findings. Frankly, the law is broken. I still say a good idea, but do it right.
