Californians Ask for Recalling Democrat Mayor over Response to Fires

The devastating fires that devoured parts of Los Angeles, California, over the past 10 days have brought condemnation to the incompetence and corruption of the Democrats running the cities in Los Angeles County and the state of California in general. Residents are now asking to recall the Democrat mayor of Los Angeles.
On the popular activism site Change.org, a member going by the name “Frustrated Californian” launched a petition titled “Demand the Immediate Resignation of Mayor Karen Bass” on January 8, 2025. The petition, addressed to Mayor Bass and two members of the Los Angeles City Council – Hugo Soto-Martinez and Monica Rodriguez – reads:
We, the undersigned residents of Los Angeles and concerned citizens, urgently call for the immediate recall of Mayor Karen Bass due to her gross mismanagement and failure to effectively respond to the devastating 2025 fires in and around the city of Los Angeles.
The petition, at the time of this writing, has gathered over 146,000 signatures. Loads of comments left on the petition page by angry Californians, who signed the recall petition, called for not only the immediate resignation of Mayor Bass but also holding her as well as California’s Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom accountable for the destruction of Los Angeles.
Reporting on the petition to recall Mayor Bass, Townhall wrote (January 12) that voters are demanding accountability and they want change as they see their mayor’s “gross mismanagement” responsible for the fires going out of control to destroy homes, businesses, and people’s lives. The story wrote:
Bass cut $17.6 million from the Los Angeles Fire Department’s budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year— a move critics have condemned as “a poor decision.”
On Wednesday (January 15), Newsweek reported that Mayor Bass is facing increasing criticism after photos appeared on social media showing her attending a cocktail party in Ghana while the Palisades burnt. The story reminded that Bass backtracked on her own promise not to travel internationally while serving as mayor:
Her decision to leave Los Angeles during a weather warning and the timing of her return has drawn sharp criticism, especially given her earlier pledge not to travel internationally during her tenure as mayor.
Investigations into the Los Angeles fires have not conclusively found the actual reason(s) behind the fires that killed some two dozen people and caused damage worth an estimated $250 billion (AccuWeather, January 16, 2025). Some reports, as those shared in the New York Post (January 12), point to the possibility of remnants of New Year fireworks starting the fire that later spiraled out of control by strong winds.
Also on Wednesday, NYP reported that the Los Angeles police arrested four people on arson charges as the suspects tried to ignite new fires in separate incidents.
In August 2023, the Democrat-run state of Hawaii suffered devastating fires that spread through the historic Maui town of Lahaina and killed more than 100 people. AccuWeather estimated the total damage and economic toll of the fires at $14 billion.
Once again, it’s not the meat, it’s the motion as Dempsey states the facts and then weaves it into his false ascertain that it’s totally the fault of Democratic policies wherever you find Democratic policies.
What Dempsey does not know it that it’s 10% of the voters for the last election for state-wide official in CA. That is 10% or 1,100,000 for Newsome. Good luck with that. For LA mayor, it’s 10% of the registered voters or 210,000 based on the registered voters at the time of the vote. So, they are more than half-way there.
So there it is.
But what does Dempsey mean when he adds: “In August 2023, the Democrat-run state of Hawaii suffered devastating fires that spread through the historic Maui town of Lahaina and killed more than 100 people. AccuWeather estimated the total damage and economic toll of the fires at $14 billion” besides the fact both regions are under elected Democrats.” How the fuck can he link Hawaii fires with California fires with Democratic policies being the same bad ju ju in both States? What’s next, blaming Mrs. O’Leary’s cow on Democrats because it was Chicago?
In July of 2024, Hurricane Beryl ripped through Republican-controlled Texas prompting 121 counties to declare disaster before it even got there. Under Republican control and preparation, 48 people perished and $7B in damages.
In September of 2024, Hurricane Helene ripped into Republican controlled Florida ripping in Matt Geatz’s panhandle prompting DeSanctimonious to declare emergency for 41 counties. A day later he changed his mind to 61 counties. Over 200 people died, some are still missing. That’s right, Republicans can’t even find the people who got blown away in the storm.
Texas is the number two state for wildfires; Texas is a Republican stronghold.
The conclusion: Republicans cannot control hurricanes any more than Democrats can control fires coming at you with 100 mph hurricane force winds. Heck, Republicans can’t even hand some wind and rain, makes you wonder what would happen if they saw fire too. Ask Texas, not much.
I am not saying they could not have done better or that the mayor did everything right. I am saying that we should pause judgement until after the smoke dies down and they can assess what happened and what is to blame, what’s to fix. And saying it’s the Democrats fault is meaningless hogwash without evidence or proof that if ONLY the Republicans were in office, this would not happen. The truth is exactly the opposite: disasters happen where Republicans live too.
Obviously, the development and building codes were not adequate. Seems that the resources and planning may have had issues, and more funding would have helped. But again, lots of moving pieces and folks need to assess.
To say its Democratic “policies” done California in is as STUPID as it is to say hurricane deaths and damage are Republican policy caused. Dempsey is an inferior researcher, analyst and journalist that just should not be able to be enabled to publish this crap. The facts may be correct, the spin is not. He has one goal: to piss you off about anything Democrat. They are as wrong and right as you and represent half the country, at least. We, and you, can’t be all bad. Even if the likes of Dempsey say different.
Dempsey should be an expert in wildfires as his homeland of Pakistan is known for them and how not to fight them. He has much experience in how not to protect the forests. In 2022, they had 200 of them going at one time. Dempsey’s Pakistan often closes down for wildfire air pollution and thousands die every year horribly in the fires. No wonder he came here, but why he wants to make us feel bad for his monetary gain is beyond me.
