Resignation Letters Piled up at the FBI – Comey Agonized, Then Re-Opened the Investigation

After mounting pressure from FBI agents and the recent email leak, FBI Director James Comey made the decision to reopen the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.

Apparently ever since he closed the case in July, many of Comey’s employees have been in “mutiny,” according to author Ed Klein in an article for Britain’s Daily Mail.  

“The atmosphere at the FBI has been toxic ever since Jim announced last July that he wouldn’t recommend an indictment against Hillary, said Klein’s source, who has known Comey for almost 20 years and is a close family friend. “Some people, including department heads, stopped talking to Jim, and even ignored his greetings when they passed him in the hall They felt that he betrayed them and brought disgrace on the bureau by letting Hillary off with a slap on the wrist.”

Following his decision to not indict Hillary, a stack of resignation letters from agents started to pile up on his desk. The source also said that Comey had agonized over this decision with his wife, Patrice.

“He’s been ignoring the resignation letters in the hope that he could find a way of remedying the situation,” said the source. 

But, the recent WikiLeaks release and the new emails discovered seperate investigation gave him just the reason to reopen the investigation.  

“When new emails that appeared to be related to Hillary’s personal email server turned up in a computer used by [her close aide] Huma Abedin and [Abedin’s disgraced husband,] Anthony Weiner, Comey jumped at the excuse to reopen the investigation,” said the source. “The people he trusts the most have been the angriest at him. And that includes his wife, Pat. She kept urging him to admit that he had been wrong when he refused to press charges against the former secretary of state.”

Comey has taken an emotional toll since his July ruling.

“He talks about the damage that he’s done to himself and the institution [of the FBI], and how he’s been shunned by the men and women who he admires and work for him. It’s taken a tremendous toll on him. It shattered his ego,” said the source. “He looks like he’s aged 10 years in the past four months.”

But, Comey’s recent decision to reopen the case isn’t only to right a wrong. “He was also worried that after the presidential election, Republicans in Congress would mount a probe of how he had granted Hillary political favoritism,” writes Klein.

Allegedly, Obama disapproves of Comey’s recent move. “Lynch and Obama haven’t contacted Jim directly,” said the source, “but they’ve made it crystal clear through third parties that they disapprove of his effort to save face.”

So what’s next for the investgation? CNN has said that FBI is tyring to wrap up the investigation prior to the election. 

“The emails were found as part of a separate criminal investigation as FBI agents in New York were analyzing a laptop used by Weiner, who had been accused of sending sexually explicit messages to an underage girl. Since the Clinton-related emails were found while investigating another case, the FBI needed a separate warrant to examine the news emails,” writes ABC News. “Federal agents discovered the emails weeks ago, but presented the findings to FBI Director James Comey last Thursday. On Friday, Comey sent a letter to key members of Congress informing them of the update. That sparked a frenzy within the Clinton campaign and immediate backlash against Comey, as lawmakers and former officials on both sides of the aisle demanded for a more complete understanding of the new information. It is also long-standing DOJ tradition to steer clear of potentially influential investigative actions so close to an election. On Sunday, the FBI obtained the appropriate warrant and began reviewing thousands of emails.”

Let’s hope that this time, Clinton gets much more than a slap on the wrist. Comey is showing signs of major regret, so hopefully he doesn’t let the corrupt DNC sway his investigation again.
