If you want to know why … ask me

One of the mainstay narratives of the #NeverTrump media is explaining … or trying to explain … why some of us will be voting for President Trump’s re-election in November.  They are downright apoplectic over the fact that half the country does not join the Anti-Trump Resistance Movement.

The more they pile on the President, the more frustrated they become.  The more they claim either to not understand Trump voters or they malign us with accusations of every civic sin imaginable – racism, xenophobia, sexism, ageism, etc. – and of having the I.Q. of an amoeba.

And that is the point.  They do not understand us.  That is true.  So … they create their own negative interpretation of us.  They erect and demolish a straw man of their own making – with all the loathsome characteristics by which they falsely define us.

What you will not find on CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, the Washington Post or the other self-proclaimed mavens of the media is the actual people who will vote for Trump – people like me and lots of you.  They must use the tools of propaganda and yellow journalism to maintain their mendacious narratives of personal destruction, character assassination and negative stereotyping.  They will not, because they cannot, allow those with legitimate – and maybe even persuasive – counterpoints to be seen and heard.

To understand the extent of their myopic bias and misuse of the news platforms, you just need to keep a score of how may folks on CNN and MSNBC are critical of Trump – to put it politely – and how many  offer up an opposite viewpoint.  How may are called upon to explain their support for Trump?  I did a quick count on a few morning so-called news shows and the count was 48 to 0.  In other words, Trump and his so-called base are being defined by those who hate Trump AND his base – who vilify Trump AND his base.

In one of the best examples of arrogant left-wing trash-journalism, I caught an MSNBC “Morning Joe” interview with Evan Osnos, a guy described as a writer for The New Yorker. Osnos had written a piece in the publication about what he called “Greenwich Republicans” – which they sub-labeled “country club Republicans.”

The purpose of the article and the interview was to explain why this group of Republicans strongly support Trump’s re-election.  After all, they alleged, these were Prescott Bush Republicans – part of the Nelson Rockefeller wing of the GOP.

(I must interject here.  Yes, we conservatives identified the more liberal eastern establishment wing of the Republican Party as Rockefeller Republicans – after the former New York governor and President Ford’s hand-picked Vice President.  But that was the terminology of the … ready for this … 1960s – more than fifty years ago.  The Prescott Bush to whom they referred was the senator representing Connecticut from 1952 to 1963.  Good God!  Were Osnos and Scarborough & Co. suggesting that today’s Republicans in Greenwich are not the same as those who lived there in the 1960s?  Well, duh!  But, I digress.)

Osnos contends that all the “good” Republicans switched to the Democratic Party or became independent in opposition to Trump.   It left only a “basket of deplorables” running the local GOP.  Okay, Osnos did not use the term “basket of deplorables,” but his point was clearly of that implication.

According to the discussion, those they alluded to as “country club Republicans” were only concerned about the economy – lower taxes and fewer regulations.  According to Osnos, the Greenwich Republicans wanted the economy opened — death tolls be damned.  They are one-issue voters. What other reasons could there be for supporting Trump?

If they had invited a person like me to explain my vote, they would have heard a far different story – a story they do not want to hear and ESPECIALLY do not want the American public to hear.  They do not want the public to know that millions of Americans will vote for Trump because they are pro-life – and he advances pro-life policies.

We like his judicial appointments – a lot.  We see school choice as essential to bringing quality education into our inner cities where Democrats have kept black and Hispanic folk segregated, impoverished and under-educated for generations.  We believe in LEGAL immigration and support Trump’s efforts to secure our borders – and not just the southern border.  We like that Trump has stopped former legislators from taking up jobs as lobbyists.  We like he has actually gotten some of our NATO allies to meet their financing obligations.  Though still a work in progress, we like that he has paused the hostilities with North Korea in the effort to de-nuclearize the Korean peninsula – progress that past administrations had promised but never even moved the needle.  And the list goes on.

From a conservative viewpoint, there are a lot of reasons to vote for Trump – and it is not all about him.  It is about the overall nature of the administration.  A presidency is more than a person.  It is a governing philosophy that is played out through budgets, executive orders, legislation, appointments and regulations.

I will again vote for Trump – despite my dislike of his personality – because of all that comes with his presidency.  I do not just fear Joe Biden, but I am horrified at the thought of what America would become under the reign of progressive Democrats at all levels.  That is why I cannot agree with those who claim to be conservatives and would empower the most radical left-wing government in American history.  If one does not support conservative principles, policies and programs, it does not matter what you once were – or still claim to be.  You are NOT a conservative.

There are the reasons many of us will vote for Trump in November.  We are not ignorant, hateful or any of all the other mischaracterizations that the Democrats and the folks on CNN and MSNBC apply to those they are afraid to hear from directly.  They prefer to malign us rather than interview us.
