Trump Strategy Working – Democrats are Sick of Defending ‘The Squad’
A group of House Democrats last week complained to CNN’s Jake Tapper about having to defend freshmen Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib (AKA “The Squad”) from President Trump.
“I can’t tell you the number of Members who are angry and annoyed about them criticizing us,” said one Democrat (preferring to remain anonymous).
On July 16th, House Democrats passed a resolution in defense of The Squad after the group was criticized by Trump.
“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe…loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States…how our government is to be run,” tweeted Trump.
“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came? Then come back and show us how it is done…I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”
House lawmakers told CNN they expect The Squad to continue stirring up trouble despite the resolution.
“We were there for them; they should stop attacking us,” said one Democrat.
According to Democrats’ internal polling, AOC has an approval rating of 22% from her colleagues; Omar has a rating of 9%.
“What the President has done is politically brilliant,” another Democrat told Tapper. “Pelosi was trying to marginalize these folks, and the President has now identified the entire party with them.”
By attacking The Squad, Trump is forcing Democrats to defend them and adopt their positions including radical and radically insensitive comments like:
- “We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice.” – Ayanna Pressley
- “The United States is running concentration camps on our southern border.” – AOC
- 9/11 Terror attack = “Some people did something.” – Ilhan Omar
The Squad has clashed with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi numerous times, including this month over a border funding bill they opposed.
After the bill failed, Pelosi urged The Squad to speak with her about their complaints instead of posting to social media. As could be easily predicted, AOC accused Pelosi of racism.
