Trump and RFK Update COVID-19 Vax Recommendations

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will no longer recommend that healthy children and pregnant women receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the Trump administration has announced.

“Last year, the Biden administration urged healthy children to get yet another COVID shot despite the lack of any critical data to support the repeat booster strategy in children,” Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in a video posted online.

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary added that “there’s no evidence that healthy kids need it today and most countries have stopped recommending it for children.”

The move comes one week after top health officials signaled that they planned to tighten access to the annual COVID-19 booster shot, which is still recommended for elderly and at-risk populations.

Previously, COVID-19 vaccines had been recommended for everyone six months and older.

Under this framework the administration will allow seniors 65 and older and other high-risk populations to receive the COVID booster shot but require more stringent testing for other populations before recommending it for them.

Kennedy and many of his fellow top health officials, such as Makary and National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Jay Bhattacharya, have long raised suspicions about the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to low-risk populations.

“Bottom line: It’s common sense, and it’s good science. We are now one step closer to realizing [President Trump]’s promise to Make America Healthy Again,” Kennedy wrote on X.

This recent announcement brings the US in line with other countries that have tightened requirements to receive the vaccine.

Currently, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, and Switzerland recommend annual COVID shots for those 65 and up, as well as those at high-risk from SARS-CoV-2.

Germany and the Netherlands recommend it for those 60 and older, while the United Kingdom does so for those 75 and older, and Sweden recommends it for those 80 years and up.

Earlier this month, the FDA gave approval to Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine for adults 65 and up as well as individuals between the ages of 12 to 64 with at least one significant health issue that puts them at elevated risk from the respiratory virus.

This seems a matter of doing the right thing, the wrong way. There is a process for this, with normal methods of communicating results. The team responsible was to meet in June and pretty sure the result was ordained. Instead, Kennedy, sensing either the need to suck-up to his Felon King OR the Rapist King having a bad week and in need of a pick-me-up OR both —– jumped the gun, went out-of-process and made his pronouncement via X as those responsible basically countered his statements.

So, In the end, it fell back into process as on Tuesday, Health Secretary Kennedy said that the vaccine would no longer appear on the childhood immunization schedule and the C.D.C.’s update counters his policy.

The agency has retained Covid shots on the schedule for healthy children 6 months to 17 years old. They added the new condition. and children and caregivers can get the vaccines in consultation with a doctor or provider, which the agency calls “shared decision-making.” The shots remain available under those terms to about 38 million low-income children who rely on the Vaccines for Children program. Pregnant women and their new babies are still outside of the “shared decision-making” and Kennedy has basically said they are on their own. And yes, there is risk in that decision.

The Trump administration is a frequent flyer for flip flops that confuse consumers and conflict with experts all the time. Reversed decisions seems to be the mantra. Kennedy has fired about 20,000 people, brought some back, and presides over an organization that is paralyzed by his management methods. No one is doing much of anything beyond putting resumes out while all medical research grinds to a halt.

Not to worry about getting vaccines and medicines. As Kennedy moves to destroy the tracking systems, pretty soon you won’t be able to see the pandemics coming so who needs the vaccine? He will make trees that are falling all around you……silent. Hey, if you don’t know, it can’t hurt you, right?

    Sigh.

What was ignorant? Or uniformed? Be specific, could be pop quiz.

If you think Kennedy spot on, so be it.

He is against measles vaccine, issued weak wishy washy recommendations and we have many outbreaks, many hospitalized. 95% unvaccinated.

My facts are generally spot on, so gopher it, take a shot if you can.
