This Democrat Condemned Antifa?
Most liberals have refused to call out “Antifa” for recent violent behavior, but now Democratic House Leader Nancy Pelosi has denounced the group in a statement after the Berkley protest attack.
“Our democracy has no room for inciting violence or endangering the public, no matter the ideology of those who commit such acts,” said Pelosi in a statement. “The violent actions of people calling themselves Antifa in Berkeley this weekend deserve unequivocal condemnation, and the perpetrators should be arrested and prosecuted.”
Pelosi made the statement after Lisa Boothe of Fox News shamed Pelosi and other Democratic leaders for not calling out Antifa.
Antifa first started making headlines when the group came to Trump’s inauguration and used violent tactics like window smashing while rioting through Washington.
Antifa was also one of the most violent groups at Charlottesville. Since then, Antifa has become more organized and have demonstrated that using force against other groups is standard protocol.
The latest violence by Antifa was on Sunday at a Berkeley protest, where 100 Antifa members dressed in black with masks attended a Berkley protest with a vengeance. A small group of Trump supporters was attacked. Six were injured and 13 were arrested at the protest.
“In California, as across all of our great nation, we have deep reverence for the Constitutional right to peaceful dissent and free speech,” said Pelosi in Tuesday’s statement. “Non-violence is fundamental to that right. Let us use this sad event to reaffirm that we must never fight hate with hate, and to remember the values of peace, openness and justice that represent the best of America.”
This isn’t the first time that Antifa has rioted at Berkley. Back in February, Antifa attacked and damaged the school’s property in response to a scheduled speech by Milo Yiannopoulos. The local police forced Berkley to even cancel the speech in response to the riot.
After Charlottesville, the liberal media has had a field day with Trump’s disapproval of both sides, including both the neo-Nazis and the alt-left groups for participating in the violence.
“Do they have any semblance of guilt? What about the fact that they came charging with clubs in their hands, swinging clubs? Do they have any problem?” said Trump. “I think they do.”
Author’s note: Boothe has a point. Why haven’t others condemned Antifa? Violence is violence. The problem is that when one side rises (like BLM, Antifa) the other side comes out of the woodwork (like the neo-nazis, Ku Klux Klan, etc). That means that the white nationalist movement, which has been gradually dying for the last 60 years, now has a new voice.
