Newsom Investigation is Serious Business
California Governor Gavin Newsom is under criminal investigation by the Department of Justice. He claims it is a nothing burger concocted by President Trump as part of a political revenge campaign. Of course, he claims that. And that excuse may work at least for a while in the court of public opinion. But the facts are not so easily dismissed.
First of all, it should be noted that the investigation of Newsom was not launched by the Trump Justice Department. It started under Attorney General Merrick Garland during President Biden’s administration. The probes originated in the Eastern District of California from whistleblower complaints filed well before the current administration took control. This timeline alone dismantles the narrative of partisan payback from Washington.
The substance centers on serious financial matters involving Newsom’s inner circle and family. One key focus rests on First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom’s tax filings and the handling of funds tied to nonprofits she co-founded, such as the California Partners Project. This organization has collected millions in behested payments solicited by the governor from businesses and tribes with interests before the state. Federal agents have sought records on whether personal benefits flowed to the Newsom household. Family finances now sit under the federal microscope.
Even more revealing is the corruption case tied to Newsom’s former chief of staff. Dana Williamson, who also worked as a strategist for Xavier Becerra, the Democrat nominee for governor, pleaded guilty in May to three felony counts including conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, filing a false tax return, and making false statements to the FBI. Williamson conspired with Becerra’s own former chief of staff Sean McCluskie and lobbyist Greg Campbell to divert two hundred twenty-five thousand dollars from Becerra’s dormant campaign account. Both McCluskie and Campbell pleaded guilty earlier. Williamson agreed to substantial restitution to Becerra and the IRS and faces potential prison time.
This is no isolated incident. Multiple individuals in Newsom’s orbit have admitted guilt in federal court. The same office handling the Williamson case leads aspects of the inquiries into the Newsom family finances. The Becerra connection through his aides and the fraud on his campaign funds pulls the leading Democrat contender into the scandal. When close advisors plead guilty to fraud and tax crimes while the governor’s wife faces scrutiny, the nothing burger claim collapses.
Newsom may protest that no crime has been found against him personally. Yet the guilty pleas secured demonstrate the investigation carries real weight. It began under a Democratic administration on whistleblower evidence. The involvement of family members and the web reaching into the next gubernatorial race expose a pattern of questionable conduct at the highest levels. The unraveling of his inner circle raises legitimate questions about oversight and culture in his administration. For a governor who positions himself as a national leader, this cloud of scandal represents more than inconvenience. It threatens his legacy and any future ambitions. This is serious business. The facts indicate Newsom faces genuine trouble that deflection will not erase.
So, there ‘tis.

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the DOJ to prosecute that asshole.
Larry says: “First of all, it should be noted that the investigation of Newsom was not launched by the Trump Justice Department. It started under Attorney General Merrick Garland during President Biden’s administration. The probes originated in the Eastern District of California from whistleblower complaints filed well before the current administration took control. Cut me some slack, Jack. First, We know the Williamson whistleblower was 2022 so we can presume investigation started about then. But the Newsom whistle blower is a different person and there is no reporting that I can find about date. Second, Trump himself, and therefore Larry, by extension, is a frequent flyer liar as his main verbal and written discourse proves. Trump is not “trust but verify,” he is “lies until proven elsewise.” Can you say Reflecting Pool terrorism? Slashing a liner that Trump said could never be slashed? Larry follows Trump’s suit (pun intended), IF he accepts the Trump (pun again, but I digest). Third, the Trump DOJ at this point is Trump’s personal legal team forgoing the Constitution in lieu of lap-dog service to the Felon King. Look at the list of failed investigations for proof. Look at the targets for proof. Almost all DOJ investigations are on Trump’s Enemy List (TEL) and/or Democrats. The few Republicans targets on the TEL are Trump detractors and Trump enemies. Fourth, Trump DOJ failures are frequent and legendary. TACO on the TEL. The Eagles portended this when they sang: Welcome to the TACOTEL District of Columbia, what a sordid place, lawyers without a case. No other DOJ has ever been so partisan and missed their target so often. We used to fire them for such failures. Trump gives them a raise. One has to consider other objectives here than conviction. One is to try the person in the court of public opinion, destroy their reputation, drain their funds, and move on. But the prime objectives are auditions as the Felon King’s pet and top lap dog. Fuck the Constitution, give me Milk-bone.
Fifth, and this is the important one: Trump is spending YOUR MONEY to go after HIS ENEMIES on YOUR DIME. Perhaps you want to spend your hard-earned cash smashing Democrats, legally demeaning Democrats, losing often, and saying Yeah man, give me some more of that crap. He does not care how he wastes your hard-earned taxpayer dollars or how high his deficit. I think it’s a waste of valuable assets, makes your DOJ a joke, and would rather go after criminals.
On this one: it started with a whistle blower in 2022 against Dana Williamson, a case having no connection to Newsome or his wife. Williamson’s case right now is a red herring that Larry spews for effect. Look how many words to rationalize it as connected. In reality, she pilfered a Becerra dormant account while working for Newsom. The two cases may be separated by time, definitely separated by different whistleblowers, definitely separated on the money, and mostly connected by being handled out of the same DOJ office. Newsom’s case is allegedly about taxes and financials for her non-profits; Williamson’s is fraud, campaign fund violations, and lying to the FBI which is most often overlooked for Trump associates because Trump belies in law and order for his enemies and pardons for Trumplicans.
Basically, at this point, based on what DOJ has released, this is yet another Newsom investigation of which there have been many attempts. Now they are bypassing him in favor of his family. Given team Larry’s DOJ cannot indict a ham sandwich, loses more of these enemy-list investigations, indictments, and trials than they win; I wouldn’t hold my breadth waiting for the ax to fall. Instead, I might suggest waiting for some real news, not Larry news, because Trump’s DOJ track record of 20 failures, one conviction (Dugan) and 10 ongoing TEL investigations, sucks at DOJ record setting levels for blowing the big ones . *https://protectdemocracy.org/work/retaliatory-action-tracker/https://protectdemocracy.org/work/retaliatory-action-tracker/*
The list does not include a number of citizen attacks like the sub sandwich guy they could not indict. That one typifies Larry’s Trump DOJ: can’t indict a ham sandwich: LITERALLY.
Hundreds of millions are being spent to not convict James, Comey, Powell, Willis, and all the rest. This is money we could have spent going after drug dealers and pedophile traffickers that Trump pardons and DOJ ignores. That’s the real crime here that supposed financial conservative Horist overlooks.
I spell my name: D A N G E R and I am frank with the facts. Larry prints whatever Trump spews. He has forgotten what “allegedly” means. Does not even bother to toss it in one time for cover on this story.
Dunger Trump is doing exactly what he should be doing. I suppose you forgot about the Russia witch hunt and the dossier that was proven false after the queen bitch killery paid for it. And the total bullshit from fake prosecutors. So shut the fuck up you hypocrite.
“Dunger Trump?” Nice job, Howeird the racist Whitesheeple. If losing more case than winning is exactly what he should be doing, you have low expectations.
Yes, we did not get him on Russiagate. We did get 34 indictments, 3 more corporate resulting in 8?guilty pleas, one conviction, five in jail. As Mueller said, Trump not exonerated, just hard to get to the indictable truth when everyone lies and convictions don’t result in the jailed turning state’s evidence since they all get pardons. The dossier was kicked off and initially funded by Republicans and yes, much was not proven true. It did not have to much to do with Mueller’s investigation.
But it’s stupid to say it absolves Trump’s DOJ’s abject failures and waste of taxpayer dollars. You toss a red herring since you can’t refute how incompetent Team Trump DOJ. What a stupid thing to do.
Soon we will restore checks and balances to government. And the Congressional subpoenas will fly. The money will stop. Six months.
Subpoenas are erased by two words. Fifth Amendment. All you goddamned idiots want to do is punish people who don’t agree with you. So go ahead, make our day. You people want a civil war. So start it. We will finish it. So stick that up your ass.
Ben, “You people?” “Civil War?” Age quod agis. “Finish it?” What does that mean,? Are you threatening “you people?” Again?
Are you on drugs about the fifth erasing subpoenas? A Russian communist perhaps?
You called down the thunder, you called for rain, come January 2027, you’ve got it! We tell you all about it starting in November. Try to rig another election, try to rig the vote like you were convicted of for the 2016 and your lawyers said you did, pled guilty, for the 2020. Or suppress it with your SAVE ACT now extorting affordable housing bipartisan law. Do what you will, take the fifth, you people are good at it. Rise up, pretend it’s a civil war and do what you will. Law and order will be the rule of the day. We will return to honoring the rule of law. Lawbreakers will face it full on.
Meanwhile, don’t you have a pool to fix? No bid contracts to losers to hand out? Vanity projects galore? No new wars to end all wars? You can’t stop us anymore than you can stop the missiles flying in Gaza. You will TACO just like you do in Ukraine. We brought you the JCPOA, you brought us 60 more days to talk about surrender. And you people seem to be talking about our surrender.
I can understand why you fear having you people face telling the truth to the people. Accountability, it’s a bitch eh Ben. Seems to really have your knickers in a wad. Some meltdown.
Dunger there’s nothing to hold Trump accountable for. Do you know why he should? Of course not you slimy turd
All-ass : Trump? I hope the next Congress holds any and all Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, or Judicial Branch to account for any and all legal wrong doings. You got a problem with that?
And it’s either Danger and Alice or All-ass: your choice. .
Dunger you’re full of dung.
Uncle Dung the racist: brave words from a keyboard clown!
Too bad you’re too feeble to actually prove your spurious spew.
Dunger what did Uncle Tom say in his post that was racist? No? I didn’t think so.
Joe Dung Carter; you are correct about Uncle Dung for this post. He has many times in the past. You don’t get a walk on past instances.
You call me Dunger and I am not so what’s your point anyway? It appears that names are not important to you anyway. You have no respect for your fellow citizen if they aren’t of your political bent anyway. Just another rude little twit getting off on calling people names from his keyboard hiding behind his laptop.
