Is Celebration of UnitedHealthcare CEO’s Assassination a Sickness?
Celebrating someone’s death is usually considered condemnable at least to some degree. When it comes to extra-judicial killings, like assassinations, hailing the crime or the criminal implies a collective social evil – the kind recently observed in America following the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson early this month.
The day after Thompson’s assassination, The Liberty Daily posted a video to its Rumble channel showing what it called a “liberal homosexual” calling the incident “pretty tragic” because the shooter was “able to get only one of them.” He is seen hailing the assassination as “a good start.”
On Friday, December 6, a group of New Yorkers put on some egregious display of celebration of Thompson’s killing by publicly holding a shooter look-a-like contest at the Washington Square Park. The New York Post reported on the story and posted a video of moments from the hateful contest.
Most of the nearly 600 comments on the video expressed condemnation of UnitedHealthcare and Thompson and some even mocked those who would feel any sympathy for him.
The New Republic called the outpouring of anti-Thompson sentiments and cheerful responses on social media to his assassination unsurprising given the “simmering public discontent” over the performance of the health insurance industry.
Fox 11 reported on the cheerful and mocking reactions to Thompson’s assassination in a video report posted to YouTube on December 8, tagging it as “cheering vigilantism.”
National Review called such reactions to the assassination of Thompson “pro-terror sentiment” that embraces assassination as an acceptable means of social change. The article questioned:
“Are we really living in the country we thought we did?”
Though the police have not formally announced the motive of the 26-year-old suspect Luigi Mangione for gunning down Thompson, material evidence recovered at the crime scene suggests that the suspect had issues with the insurance industry, reported Forbes (December 11). The story wrote:
Officers found three 9mm rounds at the scene and bullet casings had the words “deny,” “defend” and “depose” on them, which echo a phrase commonly used to criticize tactics insurance companies use to reject claims.
If Mangione indeed killed Thompson out of revenge, the pro-assassination reactions in public and on social media parallel the suspected killer’s motive. Expressions of joy, mockery, and praise for violence come as manifestations of passive aggression that complement the active shooting. In a paper titled “Revenge: An Analysis of Its Psychological Underpinnings” published in the International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology (2014), Leonie H. Grobbink and fellow researchers wrote that engaging in destructive acts such as homicide is a pathological way of dealing with feelings of revenge. The paper cited earlier research that sees feelings of revenge as a natural channel to express resentment and indignation. Others emphasize working explicitly toward forgiveness.
Murder is celebrated by the left if it’s people who don’t think like them. Democrats are violent by nature. BLM is already calling for black vigilantes. We will see more of this shit when President Trump starts unwinding communism in this country. Is there a reason for calls for weakening gun rights?
CEOs of companies are heartless and that is why they have those jobs lets see if the insurance people change before they all start getting wiped out —-it is wrong to take money for insurance and not get covered for a a health problem ===the insurance companies need to be prosecuted for theft get rid of CEO that are vultures and replace them with caring people who do not work just to line their pockets with hurting peoples money they are not getting what they paid for they are being cheated and if health care was affordable we would not need any stoooopid insurance and no one would get murdered over it and the CEO that was killed would still be alive and making a fair wage for being honest
Shooting someone in the back is the act of a coward. I find nothing to admire in this young Ivy League coward. But, I’m old fashioned.
Nothing old fashioned. It’s totally wrong to shoot people unless defending yourself or other innocent people. But the left wants to kill everyone who doesn’t agree with them. I truly believe that.
Harold: agreed on the wrong part, but while I expect this guy is a leftist, how do you know “the left wants to kill everyone who doesn’t agree with them” and what would make you say such an insane thing. If you truly believe that half the country feels this way, amazing there are not more shootings. Matter of fact, amazing that most shooting take place in RED zones.
Oh damn, here’s Congress repping out Forbes repping out the AMA Journal repping out numerous studies that conclude: Harold is right that people are killing each other, but wrong on who is doing the killing. Some of the conclusions:
“Researchers from Children’s Hospital Philadelphia, Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and the University of California examined two decades of mortality rates and cause-of-death data from the National Center for Health Statistics’ National Vital Statistics System to compile the study.
A Third Way report found that between 2000 and 2020, Trump voting states had 12% higher murder rates than did Biden-voting cities.
Data shows that in 2020, eight of the ten states with the highest murder rates voted for the Republican presidential nominee in every election in this century.”
The weird news is: “The JAMA Surgery study also found that gun suicides are more common than gun homicides, with gun suicides accounting for a large increase in gun deaths in recent years.” That would be those Red States again where the focus away from killing others in favor of killing yourself is rising.

Facts are our friend Tom. Try them sometime to avoid looking stupid. You have no evidence that the left desires to kill those disagreeing, and the actions seems to point the exact opposite direction. Fact is Tom, where there are more guns, there is more gun death — no duh on that. And where there is more gun death, there is a higher murder rate too. And it’s more red than blue. Even with those awful, awful, cities.
Bottom line: screw the politics: murder is wrong, against the law, so throw the book and then some at this kid. Make an example and set the tone. (although you got to know the black folk in Harlem wonder once again why some much attention when a murder in Harlem gets none). Congratulating the murderer, suggesting one CEO down is a good start — a really old joke btb, costume celebration parties, is a blow to our culture, our society to condone those thoughts. I don’t care how fucked up the insurance business is, and it is not, and I don’t care how fucked up health is in the US, and it is, none of that gives credence to this horrible, planned, premeditated, and purposeful murder.
When free speech creates the tower of babble, we get immune to the rabble rabble with tacit agreement to this shit as if: “hey, it’s free speech, so bugger off.” In truth, sometimes the shit being said is just fucking wrong and we should shut them down. No yelling “fire” in a crowded space. You go to jail. Lies and misinformation: let there be condemnation for blows against being polite. There used to be pushback when you lie, demeaned others, championed violence or hate. Now you get a podcast or more. Follow the money.
It’s not about guns. It’s about evil people who would come up with other ways to kill people if not for gun ownership. Looking at statistics and opinions are nothing. I live in what’s probably the most gun infested part of my state and shootings are more than rare. And you can stop lying about red states. New York and Illinois aren’t red states. Neither is California. It’s more about not addressing mental health and enforcing the laws that are on the books But Frank being a know it all will spout democrat bullshit.
