Illegal Migrant Charged with Killing Wife and Dumping Body Near Oklahoma Highway
A 40-year-old Guatemalan national living in the U.S. illegally has been charged with first-degree murder for brutally strangling his wife to death and then dumping her body near an Oklahoma highway.
Willie Ricardo Merida-Escobar, who entered the country unlawfully in 2016 and was issued a final removal order in 2023, confessed to the crime after his wife’s sister reported her missing and police uncovered a pattern of domestic violence.
This case highlights the ongoing debate around immigration enforcement, with the Biden administration still facing criticism from Republicans over its border policies. Oklahoma, unlike some “sanctuary’ states,” does cooperate with ICE through the 287(g) program, which allows local law enforcement to refer illegal immigrant criminals for deportation.
According to authorities, Merida-Escobar strangled his wife, Karla Gramajo-Cabrera, after an argument in which she allegedly insulted him. He then dumped her body under a mattress near a highway, though he could not pinpoint the exact location. Police were able to find the remains using phone data and further questioning of the suspect.
- Merida-Escobar entered the U.S. illegally in September 2016.
- He was issued a final order of removal in 2023.
- The alleged murder took place on April 10, 2026.
“This monster should have never been in our country,” said Lauren Bis, Acting Assistant Secretary, Department of Homeland Security.
She went on to say, “Partnerships with law enforcement are critical to having the resources we need to arrest criminal illegal aliens across the country. Under President Trump and Secretary Mullin, criminal illegal aliens are NOT welcome in the U.S.”
Merida-Escobar will remain in custody as ICE has lodged a detainer to initiate deportation proceedings once the criminal case is resolved.
This tragic case underscores the ongoing debate around immigration enforcement, with Republican critics arguing that the Biden administration’s policies have enabled dangerous criminals to remain in the country illegally. Oklahoma’s cooperation with ICE through the 287(g) program will likely play a role in how this case is ultimately handled.

Bill, I get it: migrants murder. Do you get it? Are we at more danger from migrants than native born? Why focus on Biden versus our problem that needs fixing? You must realize that for every migrant murder story you pop, and you like the more heinous ones, that I can double down with two normal-white-guy native-born heinous acts, no problem. Same time frame and geographic location too.
From the past for Oklahoma; “Raymond Eugene Johnson is scheduled for execution on May 14, 2026, for the torture and murder of his girlfriend, Brooke Whitaker, and her 7-month-old daughter, Kya. Johnson struck with a claw hammer 20 times plus setting her and the infant on fire. Oklahoma AG Drummond strongly opposed his clemency calling him a “heinous murderer” with a prior 1995 homicide conviction.” Shit, a two-timer who got out?
Bill’s typical Republican response to problems is not a solution: “This case highlights the ongoing debate around immigration enforcement, with the Biden administration still facing criticism from Republicans over its border policies.” Don’t you think it’s time to fix immigration rather than bashing a guy out of office for going on two years now? All you’ve done is remove people in a manner so heinous that they have stopped coming across the borders. You have done nothing to fix our immigration laws, instead, wasting our time falsely demonizing immigrants in general.
“This tragic case underscores the ongoing debate around immigration enforcement, with Republican critics arguing that the Biden administration’s policies have enabled dangerous criminals to remain in the country illegally.” Again, you focus on the Biden administration, but not on improving our immigration laws and processes. You show a telling timeline:
• Merida-Escobar entered the U.S. illegally in September 2016.
Tells us he came in under Obama, not Biden, and Trump did nothing for four years.
• He was issued a final order of removal in 2023.
Under Biden, Trump had four years.
• The alleged murder took place on April 10, 2026.
Under Trump, after 16 months of getting rid of the worst of the worst missing this guy.
Bill: immigrants murder. Humans murder. Citizens murder more. Maga murders more. But did you show that immigrants have a higher propensity to murder than say, white magarats from Florida? Or all American native born. They don’t. Matter of fact, looks like less.
AIC notes: “As immigration increased, the crime rate declined, according to the American Immigration Council’s analysis of demographics and crime data. Between 1980 and 2022, the immigrant share of the U.S. population more than doubled, from 6.2% to 13.9%, while the total crime rate dropped by 60.4%, from 5,900 crimes per 100,000 people to 2,335 crimes per 100,000 people. Specifically, the violent crime rate fell by 34.5% and the property crime rate fell by 63.3%. The same pattern holds true for data from recent years. Between 2017 and 2022, the immigrant population grew by 1.7 million people, with its share of the total population increasing from 13.7% to 13.8%. Meanwhile, the national total crime rate dropped from 2,758 per 100,000 people to 2,335 per 100,000 people, a 15.3% decrease.”
NBER found immigrant men had lower incarceration rates than native men for over 150 years. *https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w31440/w31440.pdf*
For more recent data from a red state, Texas, also confirmed that immigrants are less criminal than native born: *https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2014704117*
“We make use of uniquely comprehensive arrest data from the Texas Department of Public Safety to compare the criminality of undocumented immigrants to legal immigrants and native-born US citizens between 2012 and 2018. We find that undocumented immigrants have substantially lower crime rates than native-born citizens and legal immigrants across a range of felony offenses.”
Bill, when you spread disinformation, you fail at journalism. When you do it with intent to create false fear amongst your readers, it is known as fear mongering. Making you a fearmonger. You want us to fear migrants when we would be better served to fear our native-born neighbors, family members, or friends. Better yet, based on crime statistics, we should have less fear overall from all folks currently inside our borders.
Yes Bill, murders happen and will happen. But less so every day it appears. And migrants show less propensity than native born to murder.
I guess Bill just wants to make a buck and delivers a story, an anecdote. Anecdotes are not statistically significant. Bill skips the big picture told by statistics. Anecdotal data is not adequate by basic journalism standards. You can do better, Bill. Not BUSTED, but not adequate either.
I spell my name: D A N G E R. Truth is most dangerous to those who lie while a blessing to those who learn.
you should read the book of Jeremiah in n the Bible. The prophet wrote that men’s hearts, and women, are wicked. And the heart he spoke of isn’t the organ that pumps our blood. The spiritual heart is the inward spiritual heart and consciousness of the human race. But then came Jesus Christ to change the “hearts “ of all whom believe on Him. Of course we still live in a sinful human body but the Holy Spirit keeps us in righteous. Perhaps people should give faith a chance
I wonder if we could all agree that illegal migrant murders are high. It may be a culture issue with the illegals who come from cultures where men murder women for whatever reason, and their society accepts that kind of behavior.
We keep getting high numbers of murders from illegals, I believe, because they know they will only get deported after they get caught. And if they can run to a sanctuary city, they just might get away with it.
I propose that if an illegal migrant murders any American citizen, they should be judged and put to death in our prison system. But it shouldn’t take so many years to get it done. Once they are convicted, they should be put to death no later than say 3 months. Maybe even sooner. The family of the murderer should be responsible to pay for the humanitarian death, and they can then have the body turned over to them so they can transport it to their country. If not, then the murderer will be cremated and his ashes just spread out anywhere.
As far as a rapist of women and children, if they are guilty then give them life in prison and throw away the key. Then we bill their country of origin, and they will have to pay to imprison the perv. We can also give them right to pay whatever costs are associated with the trial and lawyers, and the country of origin must take the prisoner, and he can serve his life sentence in his country. We can monitor the sentence to make sure he is in prison for life.
I think that we would see a change in the criminal illegals, and we would have none or even way less of that type of crime from the illegals in our country.
Just a thought and opinion.
