Far Left Progressive Virginia DA Gives Sweetheart Deal to Illegal Migrant Murderer
An illegal immigrant who was charged as an accessory in a brutal murder has been given a “sweetheart” deal by a far left Virgina District Attorney.
The two admitted murderers — including one who is in the US illegally — will serve just five years in prison each under the plea deal with a progressive Virginia prosecutor.
Maldin Anibal Guzman and Wis Alonso Sorto-Portillo pleaded guilty to the 2024 mob killing of Nicacio Hernandez Gonzalez, who was found dead with trauma to his body in Fairfax County, according to police. Both men pleaded guilty to second-degree murder by mob and were sentenced to 25 years in prison, with 20 years suspended, leaving five years to serve. A judge accepted the plea agreements.
Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano secured the guilty pleas, reducing potential decades-long sentences in a case his office said lacked key physical evidence.
Descano’s office defended the agreement, telling national and local news outlets the deal was “the only way to ensure that the defendants were incarcerated.”
“There was no DNA or any physical evidence at the scene. All witnesses in this case were terrified to come forward or assist with prosecution,” the office said.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed that Guzman is an unlawfully present Honduran national who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018 and was ordered removed by an immigration judge in 2019.
ICE said it lodged multiple detainers against Guzman between 2022 and 2023, but the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center declined to honor them and released him from custody. The agency also said Guzman has prior convictions, including burglary and assault, before his arrest in the 2024 killing.
ICE said it has no record of interaction with Sorto-Portillo.
Hernandez Gonzalez was found dead in a wooded area in the 9500 block of Route 29 in Oakton just after 3 p.m. on July 20, 2024, according to Fairfax County police.
Detectives arrested Guzman, 27, and Sorto-Portillo, 45, both listed as having no fixed address, and initially charged them with malicious wounding by mob. A third suspect, Wilmer Adli Guzman, 20, was later arrested in Washington, D.C., police said.
Supported by Democrat Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s liberal sanctuary policies, Descano’s office has pursued a reform agenda since he took office in 2020, including ending requests for cash bail and implementing sentencing policies aimed at reducing incarceration, according to his office’s website.
The case comes as Fairfax County has seen multiple homicide cases involving illegal immigrants this year, according to reporting cited by federal officials.
The Department of Homeland Security highlighted the trend on social media, calling on Virginia leaders to change policies they say allow illegal immigrants accused of violent crimes to remain in communities.
The county’s illegal immigrant crime problem has not abated: of four murders this year, three were allegedly committed by illegal immigrants, according to DHS.
“Governor Spanberger must end her sanctuary policies that allow these illegal aliens onto our streets,” the agency wrote.

Trump has pardoned many guilty criminals; I will focus on the 1/6 convicts. Trump pardoned 150 who had prior criminal records for prior convictions or pending charges for rape, sexual abuse of a minor, domestic violence, manslaughter, production of child sexual abuse material and drug trafficking. As of 1/6/2026, 33 have been charged with committing new crimes since receiving Trump’s mercy.
Some notable pardons for criminals with prior arrests and convictions include:
• Peter Schwartz: Had 38 prior convictions, including for assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence, before assaulting police on Jan. 6 with pepper spray.
• Kasey Hopkins: Had a 2002 conviction for forcible rape and a conviction for assaulting a law enforcement officer.
• Edward Richmond, Jr.: Had a 2004 manslaughter conviction for shooting an unarmed Iraqi cow herder while serving in the U.S. Army.
• Benjamin Martin: Had prior convictions for battery against his daughter and a 2018 charge for choking his girlfriend.
• Edward Hemenway: Had a 2006 conviction for sexual battery and criminal confinement.
Since their pardon, 2% have already committed more crimes, there will be more. Six of the pardoned January 6th patriots that you honor are charged with committing child sex crimes, ranging from sexual assault to possession of child pornography. At least five that you freed were charged with illegal possession of weapons, including at least two who had a previous domestic violence conviction. Five of these upstanding, reformed, rehabilitated, were arrested or charged with driving while impaired or under the influence. • Christopher Moynihan: Charged with a felony for threatening to murder House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in October 2025.
• Matthew Huttle: Killed in an altercation with a sheriff’s deputy in Indiana less than a week after receiving a pardon. Prosecutors noted an “extensive criminal history” and ongoing post-Jan. 6 crimes.
• David Daniel: Pardoned for his role in the Capitol riot but continued to face charges for the sexual exploitation of a minor,, with allegations involving young girls in his family.
• Edward Kelley: Sentenced to life in prison in July 2025 for a plot to assassinate FBI agents who had investigated his January 6 actions.
• Bryan Betancur: Charged in March 2026 with assault and battery for allegedly grabbing women’s hair on a Metro train.
