Congressional Republicans Hope to Implement a new Healthcare System as Obamacare Continues to Fail

A Supreme Court ruling on the lawsuit regarding Obamacare subsidies is expected to turn up sometime during the next two weeks. Republicans in the House and Senate are busy discussing plans for a new healthcare system. In the meantime, an OIG audit revealed the disturbing fact that the federal government as “misplaced” nearly 3 billion taxpayer dollars. 

According to discussions held just yesterday, Congressional Republicans aim to temporarily continue Obamacare subsidies if the Supreme Court decides to overturn the President’s contested healthcare law. 

Many Republican leaders hope to use a victory in the Supreme Court to avoid complaints from voters if subsidies are eliminated. But since a loss of financial aid affecting over 6 million Americans might be bad news for GOP candidates, a transitional healthcare system is in the works. 

“We need to fix health care in America, but Obamacare cannot be fixed,” said Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming. He believes that a transitional system must be implemented during the 2016 elections in order for the GOP to capture the Presidency and retain control of Congress. 

According to the fledgling plan, Obamacare subsidies would remain unchanged until the end of 2015. Afterwards, states have the opportunity to obtain grants for continued aid. In the case of a state turning down a block grant, individuals would enjoy tax subsidies similar to what they are granted now. 

“This is transitioning out of Obamacare, not repealing it and not even affirming it. It’s transitioning,” says Republican Rep. Dennis Ross from Florida. 

Lawmakers say the plan would last for two years at most. Most individuals and employers would have no insurance requirements, but subsidies could be used to purchase health insurance if desired. 

The death of Obamacare and the gradual implementation of an entirely new healthcare system is sure to be met with harsh opposition from Democrats, not to mention a powerful veto by the father of healthcare himself. 

But a recent inspection of the HHS (Department of Health and Human Services) lends validity to the Republican agenda. It was recently discovered that nearly 3 billion taxpayer dollars allegedly going to feed subsidies was “misplaced.”

The money was intended for insurance companies as a part of the Affordable Care Act. The audit revealed that there was no sufficient process to “prevent or detect any possible substantial errors” in financial aid payments.  The OIG (Office of Inspector General) reported there was no system within Obamacare to “ensure that financial assistance payments were made on behalf of confirmed enrollees and in the correct amounts.”
