Proposed Changes to SNAP Could Remove 3.1 million from the Program
The Trump Administration on Tuesday unveiled new regulations that are expected to remove 3.1 million Americans from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
The new rules are designed to prevent states from automatically enrolling participants who earn more than 130% of the federal poverty level.
At least 40 states currently use broad-based categorical eligibility to enroll people who qualify for SNAP under alternative criteria; this option allows states to eliminate asset tests and increase income thresholds.
For years, Republicans have complained about this “loophole” that permits people with higher incomes to receive federal assistance.
“For too long, this loophole has been used to effectively bypass important eligibility requirements,” argues US Sec. of Agriculture Sonny Perdue. “We are changing the rules, preventing abuse of a critical safety net system, so those who need food assistance the most are the only ones who will receive it.”
The change could save taxpayers up to $2.5 billion annually.
“This proposal will save money and preserve the integrity of the program,” adds Perdue. “SNAP should be a temporary safety net.”
Critics insist the move is designed to enable increased federal spending at the expense of our most vulnerable population.
“This rule would take food away from families, prevent children from getting school meals, and make it harder for states to administer food assistance,” complains Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow.
But the decision comes at a time of historically low unemployment, when fewer Americans depend on federal assistance.
SNAP participation is at a 10-year low, with roughly 36 million Americans receiving food stamps (down from 38.5 million in 2018). The average monthly benefit is $121 per person.
How about removing the 59%of that program who are not Americans . That’s the stats on illegals who are being fed by America and our people are dying .
I know for a fact that White people are the least to be on that list .

#3 Are you white ( if yes no assistance
You will be met with the words sorry but these are the rules

Plus these illegals they are deporting I bet are on the rolls also. They probably have someone else collecting them for them. They have to check all Federal agencies and see if these name show up, if so remove them.
I worked in N.J. for almost 40 years with many people who rec’d gov’t. benefits. There were a ton of scam artists and it went on in the same families for generations. A lot of them got away with it as their friends, neighbors, relatives worked for the gov’t. agencies and knew what were good answers to various questions. All applicants and those on the rolls, should have their info vetted every year as even though circumstances change for the better the recipients will never tell anyone about any positive changes. Of course, corrupt politicians do not want any changes, as these are the folks that keep them in office. Corey Booker is a good example of that.
How about removing all the Muslims and Illegals from receiving FOOD STAMPS AND OTHER GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE, AND LETTING THE AMERICAN ELDERLY AND PHYSICALLY DISABLED PEOPLE HAVE THE FOOD STAMPS, MUSLIMS AND ILLEGALS ARE WHAT ARE NOW BREAKING AMERICAN TAX PAYERS

I have observed many individuals living off of food stamps to be driving new cars and living is up scale homes then when shopping purchasing expensive cuts of meat along with top shelf sea food . While the ones that need help can not receive any help at all!This mess needs to be regulated anyone receiving help that don’t qualify need to pay it all back then removed from the program !!

My heart hurts for this one… that tug led me to find out what the poverty level is so from what I see (used Bing) in 2018 it is $21,000 for a family of 3 and $25,000 for a family of four. Yea, the abuse should stop – but man oh man I don’t know how a family can survive with children in this country with that little money or even twice that much. This is where cuts elsewhere need to come and help our disenfranchised.
