Trump Pens Epic Trade Deal With UK

On Thursday, May 8, President Trump was proud to announce the first of what will likely be many epic trade deals for the US, this one between our closest ally, the United Kingdom.

“The agreement with the United Kingdom is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social on Thursday. “Because of our long-time history and allegiance together, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as our FIRST announcement. Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow!

“This should be a very big and exciting day for the United States of America and the United Kingdom,” Trump added. “The Golden Age of America is coming!”

On Wednesday, prior to the deal, the President announced from the Oval Office that a “big deal” was forthcoming, but he did not specify with whom the agreement was at the time.

“Big News Conference tomorrow morning at 10:00 A.M., The Oval Office, concerning a MAJOR TRADE DEAL WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF A BIG, AND HIGHLY RESPECTED, COUNTRY. THE FIRST OF MANY!!!” Trump wrote.

Trump said that the “deal” includes billions of dollars of increased market access for American exports, especially in agriculture, by increasing access to US beef, ethanol, and other farming products. The specifics are still being finalized. He also said the UK will reduce nontariff barriers that discriminate against US products and that the UK will fast-track American goods through customs processes.

“The final details are being written up in the coming weeks,” Trump said, adding that the deal is “very conclusive” and “so good for both countries.”

“This is now turning out, I think, really to be a great deal for both countries, because it will be really great for the UK also. So, they’re opening up the country; their country is a little closed, and we appreciate that,” Trump also said.

The news of a U.S.-U.K. trade deal comes as US and Chinese officials prepare to hold talks in Switzerland on Saturday, which could mark the first step in resolving a potentially damaging trade war between the world’s top two economies.

Bill, methinks you have premature excitation on this; there are few specifics on the deal which I think must pass a straight up n down Congressional vote which should be a no-brainer unless a handful of Republicans become traitorous. But there are few specifics so saying it’s epic is like a repeat of the NAFTA facelift was EPIC until four years later when the same EPIC sucked dog dicks in hell causing the biggest tariff in US/Canadian history. Just because Trump says so does not make it so; he lies a lot you know. Matter of fact, he’s an EPIC liar, on and off the record.

The deal retains the misnamed US reciprocal tariff of 10% meaning US citizens are still taxed 10% for each and every UK good purchased. Is that EPIC for you? IMO, this signals that Trump will probably tax us 10% for every foreign good we have, forever. At least that’s what he is doing in your so-called EPIC deal. My contention is that this is his plan all along; to raise taxes based on what essentially is a consumption tax. And golly jeepers, look how magarats like yourself call a 10% price increase via tax/tariff an EPIC good deal. I surmise that Trump will further fool you by leveraging the new consumption tax against a EPIC income tax cut making you believe you’re getting an EPIC deal while the bottom line for total tax burden to the General Fund where both tariff and income taxes are deposited remains close. Funny thing though, both the tax cuts and the tariff/consumption tax favor the rich. Do the math —- the closer to poverty, the higher percentage you of your pay goes to consumption, and therefore, you pay a higher percentage of earnings to consumption tax. We consume more of our paycheck; the rich can invest more of theirs. And the tax cuts always go to the rich as Trump structures them. At least, so far.

Wiggle room: tariffs on UK steel and aluminum, which they pronounce funny, are gone. These tariffs were initially between 8-30% imposed by Bush in 2002. Then 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum, effective in 2018. Now, under Trump, they are ZERO. EPIC.
Another hook. On the beef and agriculture, the regulations to sell in UK are lower as part of this EPIC deal, but the UK standards are not changed and that means no hormones. So, if American producers do not meet standards, they no sell beef, and Trump has to eat it. That’s his EPIC deal. Most US beef has hormones precluding UK sales.

All in all, this is a good deal for the US, given the Trump tariffs, but also a bad deal given the remaining Trump 10% Reciprocal Tariff. It is not a good deal for US consumers since we are paying a 10% tariff at the end of the day. We, the consumer, were better off before Trump’s hypocrisy of free markets and free trade. The question is: in the end, Highlander, what will Trump do with the 10% tariff/consumption tax he is hitting us with, without representation? Congress, are you listening? Do you remember why we brought fourth this nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all? Is this justice?

The devil is in the details, but the devil is that Trump promoted a “big deal” was coming, but as it turned out it’s not all that big. A “deal” with The UK is like selling your car to a good friend or family member.
In Trump’s world he thinks of deals in real estate evaluations. Every “deal” made by him was “big” because his Art of the Deal has been in his description making it appear more than it really is.
He promised 90 deals in 90 days. But he didn’t detail when those 90 days would begin. To date, The UK arrangement happens to not rise to the threshold of “Deal.
Trump, we have to see that he is all flash and no boom, all talk followed by no walk, all show and no go, and all pomp without circumstance. He pictures himself as if he has the brightness of a Mississippi Showboat but his delivery is more River Barge with no show prominence.
When he speaks to a deal with China on tariffs is he speaking the truth. 90 day deal for a lower tariff percentage, what’s that. It’s nothing in China’s total trade context. America has less than 20% of China’s export market. China’s production of critical parts and pre-assembled inputs for manufactured products in the U.S. is of great significance for finished product manufacturing.
Trump’s so called deals with international trade countries is not diplomatic partnering in trade agreements. It’s Trump’s uneducated assumptions and lack of basic principles in macro international economics that drive his belief that the U.S. is being has been ripped off by importers pricing
He can’t seem to have the practical understanding of what tariffs are, who actually pays the added amount, and where the collected tariffs cash amount ends up.
A tariff is an additional sales tax paid by us the consumer. Like local and state sales tax’s paid to a retailer at purchase point and transferred to the entity it’s due. Tariff/taxes ultimately end up in the U.S. Treasury’s vault. Constitutionally, it is Congress, specifically the House of Representatives that holds the National Treasury purse strings.
At present the UK imports more US. goods and services than it exports to the U.S. What tariff percentage did Trump negotiate with the UK?
Is that a big deal? How much Artful dealing did Trump perform in closing that deal?
Trump is a three boastful steps in one direction then soon after he reverses direction with 2 or 3 steps. This with out seeming embarrassment as any other person would have. What the …. That’s not the way to run a railroad, a corporation, a nation, or one’s own family and one’s own life.
What do you call someone who is constantly moving in jerking fashion this way and that? Of course, the answer is, a jerk. That person who c can’t be trusted, is untruthful, and demanding to the end.
Does the UK government trust what Trump has dealt them?
What of Mexico and Canada? Trump is the the deal artist he wants us to believe he is.
When the deal is one of his confidence schemes, watch out. Remember, it’s the house’s winning every time that is always true.

Larry is semi-retired just short of a full gold watch.
Commentary will flow from his hiddy hole retirement home. Which is why it’s called semi.
He must be limited in his recall of the old ways of derision he once dispensed rich with condescension
That he maintains his silence I like Trump pleading the fifth amendment over and over at his trial. Last week on Meet the Press Trump answer legitimate questions about his policies he answered with “I don’t know, we have lawyers, or I have cabinet secretaries who take those questions.
What. Trump has not deferred questions to lower authority cabinet members. He has always given some words in replay even if what he said was not on point or a direct answer. At least it was not an obvious dodge technique to squirt the issue.
Trump knows he is out of his depth and has no real policies or organized plans other than that of others published in Project 2025. Trump knows nothing on subjects a real POTUS would have command over. Trump has been showing America and the world his ineptitude for leadership at any level of government.
Larry comments on people he says have a mental disorder regarding Trump. What Larry has pointed to is the disorder of a cognitive nature originating with Trump who has been passing on his demons to all Republicans.
Its symptoms are blindness to true facts, admission to ignorance of what is unconstitutional about Trump’s actions, and openly supporting of Trump when his actions and his words advance illegal projects and policy decisions.
Support of Trump by his standards demands complete and total loyalty every step of the way he takes while President. This demand of his is unprecedented in all American History. So, when it’s said that if your are in it for an inch you are in it for the whole mile. When Trump says “jump” all on the right say “how far” and follow his commands.
Ironically, Trump having commanded you all to jump. He himself will take several steps back, because he wants loyalty and will watch who jumps. In the case of
Trump followers it’s best for them that they hesitate. Then they will survive and not be lost.
Larry, you have not hesitated to jump with Republicans while Trump has not proved beyond doubt that he is worthy of your trust for just an inch.

Where in the World is Waldo Larry Horist?
Is he hiding in the basement of the retirement condo complex where he is reportedly residing?
Still occurring are his regular commentaries detailing his opinion of Democrats relative to events happening in Trump’s orbit of co-conspirators engineering America’s demise as a democratic and free Republic.(Whew, that’s a mouthful)
Where is his more personal insult laden review in PBP’s Reply field?
We may be witnesses to the end of an era in Republican controversy wielding journalists gone wild on the right coverage.

AC: Larry and Joe have obviously determined that if they respond, they look stupid, so they are trying to be smart.

Were their responses ever beneficial to you in that, most often, they were not germane to the issues but instead pointed out perceived fallacies of the man?

    It’s a win-win, Larry’s first!
