Dismal DeSantis Admits Defeat, Endorses Trump!
Even though most supporters of Donald J. Trump knew it was over before it even began, Ron DeSantis’s run for the White House is now officially over as the Florida Governor has dropped out of the primaries and has endorsed the former president!
“Following our second-place finish in Iowa, we’ve prayed and deliberated on our way forward,” DeSantis said in a video message posted on X, a few hours ahead of an event he had scheduled in New Hampshire. “If there was anything I could do to produce a favorable outcome, more campaign stops, more interviews, I would do it. But I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory. Accordingly, I am today suspending my campaign.”
“It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” the governor continued. “While I have had disagreements with Donald Trump such as on the coronavirus pandemic and his elevation of Anthony Fauci, Trump is superior to the current incumbent Joe Biden. That is clear.”
DeSantis went on to signal his support for Trump while hitting former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.
“I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee, and I will honor that pledge. He has my endorsement because we can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear. A repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents.”
At one time, DeSantis had been seen as the most viable Trump alternative after sweeping to reelection as Florida governor during last year’s midterm elections. His victory was in sharp contrast to how other Republicans performed around the country, including many who had been endorsed by President Trump.
But, His failure to gain traction in the primary represented not only a major political failure, but his endorsement of Trump only proves that he never had what it takes to defeat the former president, nor do anything to pry loose his iron grip on the GOP.
There can be many reasons to point to as to why DeSantis’ campaign failed so dismally. He himself blames Trump’s indictments that elevated the former president as a victim and kept him at the top of the news cycles. Perhaps that played a role. However, DeSantis’s ultimate downfall was he really had nothing to offer Trump voters.
If you know anything about branding and marketing, then you know that one of the greatest misfires of the last few decades was the introduction of “New Coke.” Coca-Cola thought they could offer their fans an alternative to Coke that tasted “something like Coke” but was not exactly Coke. It failed miserably, and the soft-drink giant was forced to return to the original formula.
In comparison to Donald Trump, DeSantis was running as nothing more than “New Coke,” and it’s obvious voters, like soda drinkers, prefer the original that they know and love – and nothing says “original” like Donald J. Trump!
If DeSantis wants to help himself, and his political career, he should do everything he can to help Trump win.
DeSantis also stated that he will support Trump if he gets the nomination. Quite rare. If you look back at the track record of other GOP politicians, you will see that they usually shoot themselves in the foot.
As much as I hate to say it, Senator Schumer was right on when he said that the Republican Party isn’t organized like the Democrats. How right he was. The Democrats, in every election year, will throw mud at each other with the best of them. The Democrats staged the mother of all
mud fights in the 2020 Primaries. When Biden got the nomination, the rest of the party put their differences aside and they all gave him their full support. That hasn’t happened in the Republican Party since Reagan. The Republicans need to stop fighting with each other. Perhaps this act by DeSantis will encourage more Republicans to fo9llow that lead.
