Accusations of Labor Dept. Conspiracy Involving Arquette
This years Oscar Awards Ceremony became unexpectedly political when Patricia Arquette got up to receive her award for Best Supporting Actress. After reciting her standard thank-yous, Arquette began reading off a sheet of paper. She stated, “To every women who gave birth to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time… to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.”
Very shortly after Arquette sat down, the U.S. Department of Labor sent out a tweet containing her image and words, accompanied by the text “FACT: Women make 78% of what their male counterparts make,” and a “learn more” link. Journalist Mollie Hemingway of The Fedralist was quick to point out both government and civilian studies that found evidence to the contrary.
“This has been debunked so many times it’s almost silly,’ she wrote. Hemingway also pointed out that the “wage gap” exists in the White House as well. In the wake of Arquette’s statements, it was also revealed that as a senator, Hillary Clinton paid female staffers about $15,000/year less than male staffers.
