Time for a New Cold War – With Islam?

America is divided and confused, we want to be tolerant of other cultures but the realities of sharia law and those who are pushing it are frightening beyond measure.

Liberal commentator Bill Maher recently said:

“Islam is not like other religions, there are illiberal beliefs held by vast numbers of Muslims. Vast numbers of Christians do not believe that if you leave the Christian religion you should be killed for it. Vast number of Christians do not treat women as second class citizens. Vast numbers of Christians do not believe if you draw a picture of Jesus Christ you should get killed for it.

“There was a Pew poll of Egypt a few years ago, 82% said stoning is the appropriate punishment for adultery. Over 80% thought death was the appropriate punishment for leaving the Muslim religion. To claim this religion is like other religions is just naive and plain wrong… This is the soft bigotry of low expectations that we have with the Muslim people.”

According to Bridget Gabriel, the Muslim Brotherhood plan for the destruction of America, dated 5/22/1991 was evidence in the largest terrorism case ever in the United States where 108 individuals were arrested for raising money to support terrorism. They raised millions of dollars.

It said in part: 

“Understanding the role of the Muslim in North America – The process of settlement is a civilization jihadist process that brothers must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the western civilization from within and sabotaging its house by their hands and the hands of the believers so it is eliminated and Allah’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.”

Any questions as to their intentions, and their requirements of EVERY Muslim who comes into the country?

Near the end of the document they name 29 organizations which were established with the sole purpose of destroying the United States from within. Here are some of them:

#1. Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) – Currently advisors to President Obama on middle east policy

#2. Muslim Student Association (MSA) – Has more chapters on American campuses than Democrats and Republicans combined

#8. The North American Islamic Trust (NAIT) – Owns the deeds to over 90% of mosques in America

During the Cold War with the Soviet Union, America was almost universally afraid of the potential threat they represented. We almost universally rejected the socialist, oppressive and totalitarian philosophies of the Soviet Union. We recognized our freedoms were at stake if we lost, and we and our allies were focused on containing Soviet activies and making sure we were always technologically and militarily superior. It worked and we never had the dreaded nuclear war that was anticipated between the superpowers.

Perhaps this is the focus we need on Islam. Lets talk about what Communism and Islam have in common.  

First they both represent non-functioning economies. Communism (or actually socialism as practiced, notionally on its way to communism) is not a viable economic system, as was proven by the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. They siphoned resources from “acquired” territories, until stopped (recall the “Domino Theory”? That’s why we fought Vietnam, and it worked).

The Soviets’ demise was accelerated by the arms race under Ronald Reagan which finally bankrupted them. Their economic system was replaced by the very capitalist philosophy they fought against, in the form of the black market that had slowly risen and then dominated their society, basically criminal thugs, now their legitimate economy.

Islam in the past 100 years has largely expanded on revenues from oil, pulling any technology or societal advances from first world nations in trade. Without the oil money many Islamic countries could not have expanded their populations and influence the way they have. They have not embraced free enterprise nor democracy, their culture is not a productive one. But now they are over 1.6 billion strong with trillions of dollars in resources with which to expand.

Neither Islamists nor Soviets, have a sustaining economy and would not (did not) survive without cooperation from the West.

Their philosophies, while very different end up with the same result. Oppression and a complete lack of the rights free democracies have always enjoyed in modern history.

The big difference is in perception. With the Soviets, we knew we had a threat. The threats were explicit taken seriously and then acted upon. With Islam, the threats are still explicit but for some reason our leaders DO NOT take them seriously. Its not that we don’t believe their intent. Its that we believe they do not have the power to carry out their threats (again the bigotry of low expectations). However they have proven themselves more insidious than even the Soviets were.

The Islamic population is estimated at 1.6 billion and growing. It is growing based on oil revenues from first world countries but growing nevertheless. Their population will soon overwhelm Europe and will put pressure on all surrounding areas within a generation. And they are aggressive. There are many countries which had never contemplated being Islamic, until they were forced to become Muslim by their neighbors.

We are talking about population expansion from a generational standpoint – this is the most powerful force in humanity. To paraphrase Thomas Malthus in his work An Essay on the Principle of Population (1700’s)  “Population expands to consume all available resources, checked by war, famine and disease.” That means the fastest growing population will overwhelm the others, absent any other considerations.

There is a twist though. It turns out more successful cultures get past this prinicple. Populations in American, Europe and Japan are more stable, growing less frenetically. So we are in a race, can we change a fast growing radical population into a successful culture with a slower growth rate through economics? A tought battle to be sure.

If you believe Bill Maher’s sentiments, Muslim immigrants do not intend to integrate and even non-radicals can be lead into harming America.

If we “declared” a Cold War, what would be the result?

First, it would establish a new generation of political correctness. Despite the variations in opinion as to what to do about it, no one but a Muslim wants to see sharia law in America.

It would force the government to determine who are our friends and who are not. We need this desperately, since our leadership still wants to import another 65,000 Muslim refugees.  Would we have allowed 65,000 Soviets to immigrate to our country in the middle of the Cold War? Would we have allowed them to erect hundreds of communist schools and thousands of communist gathering places? Would communists be advising the President of the United States on Soviet affairs?

M. Trump talks about halting immigration from Islamic countries, and then resuming it as soon as we find a way to determine who our friends are. In this case we might make the test not just are they associated with terrorism, but also do they believe sharia should be the law in America or forced upon others in America. In America, our Consistution says religion is an individual choice. But if they believe everyone should be forced to obey sharia law, that’s a problem.  

Note that Christianity has the 10 commandments. Should these be law? No, but they should be taught to children as moral guidance, per the choice of their Christian parents.  Our actual laws must conform to the Constitution. Sharia law is incompatible with our Constitution.

With a Cold War type focus, we would be bent on defeating this horrible philosophy by every means, especally within our country (like Gulen setting up schools for children,radical organizations setting up Mosques (see NAIT above), and Islamic recruiting in prisons.

This will be complicated. We are allies with many Muslim countries. In many cases these countries are intolerant of Jews and Christians within their borders. Turkey is a NATO ally, Pakistan has nukes. India, Africa and Europe have large Muslim populations thanks to the Maltusian prinicple mentioned above. 

At this point we, the West, have the economic engine that runs the world. Our people are free, our lives are good. We do not need to help cultures that not only hold our success in contempt, but who are actively striving to take it away from us. A “cold war” strategy would use a variety of means to contain Islam, military, trade, immigraion, culture, propaganda and more.

What is the danger of not doing this? Islam is already changing our society, dividing us, making us “tolerant” of practices we would otherwise fight tooth and nail against.

But lets look at where this could go, given the time and slowness of a cold war.

Are there acceptabe interpretations of Islam that do not require radical actions, like killing non-believers? If so we should be encouraging Imams to adopt these and reject the violent ones.

If there are no complete interpretations that encourage only the peaceful side of the Islamic religion, we should be asking “friendly” Imams to write some. Most apolgists say Islam is a peaceful religion. Can we have a label for that with appropriate support?  Can we get them to speak up for peace and compassion and against the violence and intolerance that is the reality? Again, it needs a label and a rallying cry.

OUr goal has to be to ally with a more peaceful Islamic culture, encourage their prosperity (free enterprise and democracy!)  and welcome them. And we would expect them to spread their version and work against the radical Islamists.

If you look through the last two thousand years of Christianity, it also had violent teachings and radicals who bent the precepts toward their own ends. Fortunately, Christianity had a Pope. And the succession of Popes throughout the years chose to teach a peaceful religion, throwing out or discrediting the violent teachings of self serving zealots.

Islam has had no such leader to discredit the violence. Perhaps we can find some and unite them?
