Biden response to military deaths too little/too late … as usual
Immediately following the deaths of three soldiers and the serious injury to scores, President Biden said, in the strongest terms, that America will respond “appropriately.” Those who were responsible for the heinous act would not go unpunished. He has now attacked more than 85 sites in Syria and Iraq – and another 35 in Yemen. But was it again an example of Biden’s too little/too late policies? It came only after Iran-sponsored terrorist organizations have attacked American military personnel and assets more than 160 times over a four-month period before killing the three soldiers.
Keep in mind that it did not take long after Biden’s promise of a tough response against ALL those responsible that he promised Iran – the sponsor of the attack – there would be no military action against the rogue government in Tehran. That was similar to Biden’s assurance to Putin that America would not take military action against his invasion of Ukraine.
The Biden administration took more than a week to think about a response – but always with caveat that there would be no attack on Iran. In what can only be described as diplomatic poppycock, Biden & Co. said that Iran is responsible, but since they did not directly kill the American soldiers, they would not be held accountable. Responsible but not accountable. Really?
I am troubled by the delay in the response. From my every experience with such situations – and I had some during my days in Washington — the folks at the Pentagon develop contingency plans for almost every possible event imaginable. They do that so they can be ready with a plan to respond instantly.
Instead, the administration took a week to “analyze” the situation – to ponder all the possible options. If they had a contingency plan, why wasn’t it invoked quickly? If they did not, why not? They already knew who was attacking American military sites in the Middle East. They knew the launch locations. They knew who gave them the weapons.
With Iran being excluded from a meaningful response, there was no doubt that our only possible response would be to attack the terrorist-controlled sites and assets in Syria and Iraq. We knew that, and so did the terrorists. Biden allowed time for civilians to leave areas to be attacked to avoid civilian casualties. That was also Biden policy in Ukraine and Gaza. That sounds noble, but … that also alerts the terrorists and gives them time to prepare or scram. Biden was telegraphing our plans to the enemy – and that is a huge no-no in times of war. Oh … I forgot. This is not a war according to the White House. All this shooting and killing is to AVOID a war.
Biden appears to have been fiddling while the terrorist moved personnel and equipment to alternative locations. In fact, BBC reported that many of the sites Biden attacked were … evacuated, abandoned, empty. So, far there has been no official assessment as to what has been destroyed and how many terrorist leaders and combatants have been killed.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, appearing on CNN, was asked about the outcome – specifically how may enemy combatants were killed. He hedged. They are still assessing the situation. He was asked what goals were achieved. He hedged again. Sullivan did refer to the American response as a “strong message.” Another diplomatic weasel word that does not suggest a victory.
What Biden launched was without a doubt a spectacular display of American firepower. But how effective was it? We still do not know. In terms of “the other side,” the Houthi terrorist organization – a primary target of the American response – said they would meet the American action by escalating their attacks. That does not should like we have “degraded” their abilities, as we were told – or that they got the “message.”.
We have been told that the purpose was to “degrade” the terrorist’s ability to mount such attacks. “Degrade” sounds like something less than defeat … destroy … and the ability to attack in the future. It goes along with “sending a message” — another goal short of victory.
Biden and his people have repeatedly assured the world that the United States does not want to escalate the war. Hell, they will not even say it is a war. They do not want to cause a broader regional conflict. They say those things despite Iran and its surrogates have been engaged and escalating and broadening the conflict since October 7, 2023. The Biden strategy so far has not degraded the ability of terrorists to attack – or discouraged their desire to attack. It has not stopped Iran’s involvement. It has not produced “peace in our time.”
When will Biden understand that the repeated mantra “Death to America” is a matter of policy for Iran and their terrorist network — and tragically, they just implemented a small piece of that strategy. And … until we replace “appropriate action” with “effective action,” nothing is likely to change.
So, there ‘tis.
How can he care? He’s brain dead.
Iraq invaded Kuwait 8/2/1990. G.H.W. Bush begins Desert Storm 1/16/91 – 167 days before response to protect our U.S. Interests.
Saudi backed Terrorists destroy Twin Towers 9/11/2001, 2996 killed. G.W.Bush invades Afghanistan October 7, 2001 – 26 days before response. Saudi’s never were attacked for their participation, nor have the 9/11 victim families been compensated for their loss. Instead we bought more oil from Saudi Arabia.
Powell announces to UN that Iraq has WMD on 2/5/2003. G.W.Bush responds 3/20/2003 – 43 days before response. Intel was wrong. No WMD – Bush took 7X as long to respond to a potential world nuclear holocaust.
2/27/2014 Russia invades Crimea. Obama responds only with sanctions on March 17, 2014 – 19 days for response. No military response.
1/28/2024 Three U.S. Troops killed in Syria drone attack. 2/3/2024 U.S. / UK strikes on Iranian assets in Iraq, Syria – Biden 6 days to respond.
Larry, you will see in the list above, there were much more devastating attacks on US assets and interests in the past where U.S. Presidents took much more time to respond. While I do not discount the three soldier lives lost, and I grieve for their families, Biden’s response was in my view appropriate, and in much shorter time than any of the former presidents.
You will say, “Come on man! 160 attacks!” Yes, true, but with no soldiers killed, no assets destroyed, and the targets were not all U.S. Some were attacks on other country flagged ships.
Yesterday, 2/7/2024, 9 days after the deadly attack, we killed the top guy who planned the attacks. We exploded his car. Now thousands in Baghdad are chanting foreigners go home. So we just created a few thousand anti-West, anti-USA potential terrorists – all to kill one guy. In addition, many IRG assets have been destroyed in these attacks – see *https://apnews.com/article/iraq-syria-strikes-hamas-militia-iran-us-62be7c7b500de1d0f1287a9b2c6f82dc*
All total, at least 80 people killed, the man responsible killed, many assets destroyed – all within 9 days.
1) Have we spilled enough foreign blood to satisfy you?
2) How many more anti-US potential terrorists do you wish to create by attacking Iran? Many Iranians are against the Mullahs. We will turn them against us if they get killed in attacks. How will this help peace in the Middle East?
3) The whole premise of your article, that Biden responded too little too late is absurd when compared to previous POTUS responses. Come on man!!!!
Tom .. What you offer is a fruit salad or different situations. For example, in one case there was waiting on a UN resolution and the assembling of a 65 nation coalition. In another case, it was preparation for a full scale war attack — something effective. And you say that Biden responded in 6 days after the killing of three American soldiers. Did you lose track of the FACT that they started attacking us four months earlier — and more than 160 times? Your response seems to be directed at those with a biased views or lack of specific knowledge as to details — like Frank. When it comes to you, he is your proverbial one hand clapping. No matter how well founded you try to make it sound, your response is basically selective information misinterpreted — and irrelevant to the points I presented. Come on. man. You can do better than this bullsh*t — well presented, as it appears to be. Your response is a pretty package, but nothing inside. LOL
NTW, the Israeli’s will create all the terrorists the world will ever need, Tom.
FYI: great post, really liked it. Spot on.
1. I could use a little more, finish the Houthis, and then especially Iran, maybe some oil fields.
2. I tire of the “but many Iranians desire different” pitch, got to deal with actions
3. Come on man is right.
Frank Stetson … Wow! We seem to agree that we are eventually going to have to hit Iran. Is that what you meant?
Larry, Your dementia is showing. It is obvious that Frank is referring to Tom’s comments and not your (to be expected) complaints about the Biden response to these attacks. You are definitely more of a hawk than the vast majority of the elected Republican officials, but in most cases a middle of the road response is required to minimize the chance of escalating a conflict. Now if you really wanted to write a worthy tome-how about chastising your good republicans for failing to send aid to Ukraine. It seems the Putin wing of the Republican Party is doing just fine…
Mike g(?) … Can’t remember your screen name? Memory fading? You apparently do not recall my unbridled support for Ukraine and Israel. I called out Biden for his too little/too late policies and I criticized Republicans who talked or acted against full and immediate support for Ukraine and Israel. You would have to be non compos mentis to have forgotten all that. Ah… maybe that explains it. You should not be claiming others have dementia with your track record for mental acuity. However, I do not think you have dementia. I just think you are just not all that smart. That also explains the reliance on those childish and meaningless insults.
The response is taking so long because there is NO Policy.
This administration does not use Policy to decide what actions to take.
They simply assess the threat and decide what actions will make Biden LOOK like he cares
without pissing off more people than he needs to do.
Every country sees this and says nothing out of diplomacy, then invades!
To bad Biden spends most of his time talking to people who already died!
Jackass, along with anyone who defends or voted for him. Period!
The Israel lobby, also known as the Zionist lobby, are individuals and groups seeking to influence the United States government to better serve Israel’s interests. The largest pro-Israel lobbying group is Christians United for Israel with over seven million members.[1] The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is a leading organization within the lobby, speaking on behalf of a coalition of pro-Israel American Jewish groups.

if you do not do something such as going on the street and telling your government which is controlled by the Jews to stop killing the Gaza people and stop the Israeli War and send food to the starving people of Gaza. If you can not do it then forward this message with the above two links to at least 4 of your friends and ask them to forward it to 4 of their friends so that the world will know that the new mass murderers are the Jews of the world . It is ironic that the Holocaust servicers (the Jews) are creating a new Holocaust against the Philistines in Gaza.
