Biden has his back to THE WALL
It must be embarrassing when the course of events nullifies past policy statements. That is apparently what happened to President Biden. Imagine, Biden actually doing a one-eighty and ordering the building of a wall on the southern border. It is not a long wall, but it is a wall.
It was a mainstay in Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Building a wall on the southern border was one of President Trump’s signature policies after assuming office. Construction of THE WALL was started, and 452 miles of new wall was completed – initially replacing inadequate barriers and erecting 15 miles of new wall.
During all that time, Biden was a vociferous critic of THE WALL. He opposed it based on cost. He opposed it based on a claim that it would not work in stemming the flow of illegal border crossers. He opposed it as a humanitarian disaster.
Biden was so opposed to THE WALL – Trump’s wall – that he stopped the construction that was already paid for — and let millions of dollars’ worth of wall lie rusting on the ground.
Biden never equivocated on this one. In an NPR interview in August of 2020, Biden said, “There will not be another foot of wall constructed on my administration …”
Now Biden is building the wall – and waiving scores of laws that would interfere with the construction. But he still says border walls do not work. In the face of a backlash from his left, Biden now says that he has no choice. Those funds were allocated by Congress – and all his efforts to re-allocate them have failed.
If we believe him, Biden has been spending the past three years trying to defy a constitutional congressional appropriation and simply use the money for his own political agenda. Now that his abuse of power failed, he says he is obligated to build what he claims is a useless wall.
The border crisis has become so bad – and is now hitting hard on the Democrats’ big city strongholds – that he can no longer maintain his open borders policy and simultaneously dodge political damage. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and New York Mayor Eric Adams are both blasting the Biden administration for the immigration chaos that has finally reached their communities. The claim that the border is not open is no longer a viable lie. He had to do something – even against his own desire.
Actually, Biden could do a lot of things that would have significant impact on border security – such as cooperating with local border law enforcement instead of blocking them or blocking caravans before they reach the border by pressuring all the nations along the trail. Instead, he reluctantly builds a few more miles of border as a symbolic gesture. With doing nothing as no longer a workable option, Biden seems to be willing to take some embarrassment rather than take effective measures.
One can only imagine the conversation in the Oval Office when building THE WALL became a decision of the last resort. I am betting that crow was the luncheon special that day.
So, there ‘tis.”
Someone should ask retard joe how crow tastes
Reminds me of my time in Casablanca. Of all the solutions in all the border towns in all of Texas, a wall walks into mine.
What could he be thinking —- 20 miles of wall, I can sneak it by?
Wait, how about that rationale —- they voted for it, I gotta do it.
Probably more like — hey A B B O T T —- govner, quit bussing them folk, I give you wall.
Not a good idea, not good optics, not even good pandering, this is not going to change any border Governor’s minds.
Can we get back to the papers in the garage over by the vet in the dead of night? Or I was Hunter’s business partner? Come on, give me something I can support you on……..
Good article Larry. Twice this week you have left Frank in a somewhat defenseless posture! Once on Bidenomics that he did not defend, and once on the about face done by Biden on the Trump Wall. Congrats! You must be feeling pretty good just about now! But just because I agree with a wall, do not think I am leaning conservative or that my thoughts on this are anecdotal. Many Independent/Unaffiliated voters agree with the wall being completed.
I agree Frank, this 20 miles will not change any border gov’s mind. And besides, if they walked all the way up here from down there, what’s another 20 miles!??? That’s a one day hike!
I’ve always been told it takes a strong man to admit when he’s wrong and to do the right thing. You are such a man Frank! And Biden is right behind you! While everybody criticizes him for his dunderhead decisions to let so many illegal deplorables (some of which are criminals, rapists, thieves, murderers, gays, and trannies) in and not build a wall when we needed it, at least he has finally arrived! Even if only for 20 miles worth! i’ll take it! Unfortunately this will give Trump and the GOP quite a set of talking points! I think he should partner with those gays and have a “wall coming out party”. 🙂
Biden has also snubbed Israel and boy oh boy has the events of the last seven days given GOP a boat load of talking points! But I digress…..
I think he would have been smarter to just pivot all the way and say we are going to complete the wall as an experiment in migration control, which will also create more good paying jobs. He’s got the money, he missed the full opportunity. Maybe had you been advising him Frank, things would be different!
I wonder how Kennedy would act? Do you think he would build a wall?
The way I see it, the Pope has a wall around the Vatican, China has a big damn wall which I hiked a few miles of, so we should be able to have our wall too! The Pope should shut up on the topic and stick to religion! I think you would agree with me on this, right?
Keep sluggin Frank. I enjoy your commentaries!
Larry Horist walks into a bar. Bartender asks, “why the long face?”
Ok, you got me, why the long face?
I’d mention your issues with subtle but it makes Larry upset… :>)
Horist walks into a liberal bar. Bartender asks, why the long face and wtf are YOU doing in here?
Horist walks into a bar. Bartender asks, why the long face? Horist replies: I have no stable income.
Horist walks into a bar. Bartender asks, why the long face? Horist replies: I didn’t get into the men’s choir. I’m a little horse.
Horist walks into a bar. Bartender asks, why the long face? And Horist says, “I’ve just realized I’m a metaphysical construct within a fictional narrative and will cease to exist at the end of this sentence.”
ba da bump.
Tom … Have you noticed how unhinged Frank is getting with his Horist jealous obsession? The reason he cannot stay on point is because in his world, I am the point. I feel bad for laughing at his nonsense. He is really a very sad and pathetic person..
A Horist walks into a bar. “Hey,” says the barman. “Yes please,” says Horist.
I’m so sad, so pathetic, so easy a mark for Larry Horist-ing around. He’s obsessed with me.
You see Larry, Horist kind of sounds like Horse. So those are Horst walks into a bar joke. Jokes are sometimes thought of as funny. Most humans like funny. They like to laugh. The best of us laughs at ourselves.
Larry no laugh. Larry no funny. Larry mad. Larry sad. Too bad.
Frank Stetson … You write “Larry no laugh. Larry no funny. Larry mad. Larry sad.” that is you imaginary playmate. In fact, I am the opposite of all those traits. If you knew the real Larry Horist, you would know that I have a very good sense of humor and am a very positive and happy individual. That is just for the recorded since I know it will not have any influence on your obsession and you imaginary foil, That would require some professional counselling — which you should consider. And that is sincere advice, not a joke.
Wow, even I am getting a little sad over how defensive and emotional Mr. Horist has been as of late.
Let it go, Larry, it was a joke. I am sure you are funny; I have seen your picture. I am sure you are positive and funny, a really super guy.
Remember, I love ya man. And that ain’t no malarky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9VxYfHfz-Q
Isn’t it a little late to be erecting the wall, now that the damage has been done and Biden the POS jackass has no idea who He let in or where they are? Millions of People. You think there won’t be murders, disease, rapes, gangs and terrorism? Wake up People, for Gods sake!
If anyone thinks that terrorist cells have not entered our Country, think again. Biden is the worst Prez ever, whomever voted for him is very mentally disturbed!
I hope Biden rots in hell along with his Commie master Hussein Obama!
He has no clue. Sick man. Sad.
All of the illegal aliens enterring our country are New Voters for good old Joe. Joe will be our president forever with all of his new illegal alien supporters.
I bet Lorraine can’t even explain how that happens.
Probably thinks they walk across the river, walk into a polling place in Texas and say, my name is Pablo Escobar, where can I vote, enter a booth and pulls the lever for Democrat.
Yup, it’s that simple. In Texas. And for Lorraine.
Not.
Lorraine, you concern is well founded but the timeline is not immediate. Normal immigration procedures will produce a green card at five years and a voter that can vote in state and federal elections in 10 years.
Biden is using “asylum” which is a little different. An asylum case that is granted asylum in the USA can apply for a green card after one year (instead of after five years like the normal immigration process). Then after they possess a green card for five years they can apply for citizenship and vote in all elections. So the whole process time is about 6 years. What I see is a wait period that in indeterminant at this point because there are so many coming across the border seeking asylum. Wait periods I hear are up to four years for your asylum case to be heard. Which puts us almost on the timeline of the normal immigration procedures. So it appears to this Independent/Unaffiliated voter that it is a wash.
What I think that is most interesting is that the statistics show that asylum seekers generally go for the Dem party first. That is until they are rooted, have good paying jobs or start small businesses, etc. Then they switch to GOP.
Now you can answer Frank with the facts and feel relieved that nobody is coming across the border ready to push voting booth levers. This won’t happen.
Frank knew the facts and believes in teachable moments. Congrats, gold ⭐️ to you. Keep it in your file; the moment will be upon us again.
Larry,
Gloating becomes no one.
Biden stands by his thinking about The Wall not being the best, or even any remedy solution at our southern boarder.
Republicans hang their MAGA hats on their suppositions of its advocacy and worth its expense. The sum of which is one line item among many additional costs incurred. The political right scoff at environmental impacts negatively affecting even destroying ecosystems, migration patterns, natural habitats, and more.
The Wall, whether built entirely or mostly in high crossings zones, will be ineffective against illegal drug importation. These come into the country at points not on the southern boarder and by other transport means. Of course this is a well publicized fact.
Numerous additional often discounted costs are measured not in financial-economic terms but in human calculations, costs borne by the population in general with degradation to earth’s environment. Not unimportant calculating human cost are those paid when one group in society believes their group scored a win at the expense of the group termed as “others”. Truth be told, we all forego a sizable chunk of a quality of life asset shared by all.
Biden’s presidency directly inherited consequences of decisions Trump made in his term. Trump inherited consequences from Obama’s decisions made during his time. That’s the facts ma’am.. Biden, as president, could rescind many of Trump’s “executive orders “ Biden disagreed with. Some he could not undo forcing happenings going ahead that are out of his control or he could not avert because his minority party did not have enough votes.
The matter in question here amounts to his hands being tied. The worthless 20 mile’s marginal extension would proceed. Biden’s campaign promise pledged no more Wall. A pledge he still holds. But, of many pledges proposed in the heat of a campaign, even one being central in a candidate’s platform, reality is, not every promise made will find success.
Gloat if you must, but humbly consider standing in his place. We all need to do this before judging, mocking, and doing any name calling.
Fundamentally, if we’ve not been their standing in the world’s headlights and History’s full view, we do not have complete knowledge, true context, or carry responsibility’s full weight
Our opinions give us our voice, our piece is worth as much as its contribution to general knowledge and peace’s progress.
Opinion writers stock and trade is an oppositional attitude toward opinions from all contrary voices and those commentators judge to be Illiterate, hence ignorant. Therefore, they have no right to assume there is a place for their ilk at the table.
Those making a living on the strength of our Constitution and its guarantees should know and understand we their readers are the people having equal right to partake.
It is what it is.
Thanks AC, I have hope again. Wish they could get more in front of the obvious in messaging and information.
“But, of many pledges proposed in the heat of a campaign, even one being central in a candidate’s platform, reality is, not every promis”e made will find success. True! I remember a double-ended pledge called “Repeal and Replace”. We all know how that worked out!
Hey! You write well, just like Frank. Did you take his course on “How to Make Short Points with Long Paragraphs”?
It’s a gift.
Of course there’s always a back story. Now in my early 70’s. that story is varied experience laden.
Education in life always bears a cost. That cost is known as tuition. My opinion about tuition is it’s a good investment.. .
Never disregard context enfolding facts.
Exsqueeze me Tom…. Was that an “as an Independent” joke? Uh oh, no happy face. Must be serious……
Perhaps if you could actually grasp an idea, understand big words, I could use less explanation :>)
