Newt Gingrich: GOP Shouldn’t Worry about Midterms
Republicans need to stop worrying so much about the upcoming elections, says former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who on Tuesday reminded us that the media was wrong throughout the entire 2016 election process and could be wrong again.
They were wrong about candidate Trump, “wrong about the impact of the Republican and Democratic conventions,” and “wrong on Election Day, up until the actual results gave them no alternative but to accept the reality that Trump had won,” writes Gingrich.
While “the elites” have predicted major losses for the Republican Party, Gingrich cites research from “one national expert” which suggests the GOP is leading in 7 of 12 Senate races.
Support for Trump and the Republican Party has been boosted by tax cuts, deregulation, and increasing consumer confidence, says Gingrich. “When combined with the president’s successes in both foreign policy and trade, Americans have significantly increased their support for his presidency and agenda.”
In the meantime, historically low unemployment for African Americans has driven support for Trump in the black community from 11% to 22%. “This is a huge improvement over traditional Republican support in the black community,” notes Gingrich. “Do not be shocked if President Trump’s reputation as the ‘jobs President’ drives his support among African Americans significantly higher.”
Compared to Trump’s tax overhaul, the Democratic Party looks like “the party of food stamps, welfare, and higher taxes,” writes Gingrich. And let’s not forget all the socialist voters out there who are now faced with the reality of the collapse in Venezuela.
Democrats are also pushing voters away with “extreme” positions that make the party appear “anti-gun, anti-male, anti-white, anti-Christian, and anti-work,” continues Gingrich. And DNC Chairman Keith Ellison has been accused of being anti-Semitic.
On top of everything else is Trump’s upcoming meeting with Kim Jong-un and the conflict in Syria. No one knows how these situations will work out or “if the economy will continue to set records,” writes Gingrich. “No one knows if the deep state legal assault on President Trump will end with a bang or a whimper.” And none of the so-called experts know either.

Gingrich predicts Republicans will maintain control of the House and gain 4-6 additional Senate seats. “This is only a guess, but one that could very much turn into a reality.”
