HORIST: Pelosi may refuse to deliver on impeachment

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave the radical left of her caucus what they wanted – President Trump’s impeachment.  She delivered.  Now she threatens NOT to deliver.

In her victory-lap press conference, Pelosi stated that she may not deliver the Articles of Impeachment over to the Senate until she was convinced that Trump would get a fair trial – to Democrats as a continuation of the partisan vigilante justice he got in the House.  To underscore the Democrats’ latest we-are-in-charge strategy, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, of South Carolina, went on CNN to say that the Democrats could hold the Articles hostage (my word, not his) indefinitely – theoretically preventing a Senate trial.

So, what is wrong with this strategy – more specifically than EVERYTHING.

For a Party that did a lot of self-serving chest-pounding and back-slapping for their alleged devotion to the Constitution, the idea of blocking the all-important trial is the height of hypocrisy.

We only need to recall how House Democrats claimed exclusive rights to conduct the impeachment by any rules they desired.  They wanted no advice from Republicans.  Nor did they see any reason to involve the Supreme Court to resolve issues.  Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal — in a complete disregard for the separation of powers and co-equal branches – stated flat out that “we [members of the House] are not accountable to the courts.”

Suddenly, the Pelosi Democrats believe that THEY are entitled to dictate the Senate rules governing the requisite trial.  If they do not get their way, presumably they will not deliver the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate – preventing a trial.

The very suggestion would be further evidence that the House Democrats are well aware that their impeachment lacks gravitas.  It is too weak – too political – to avoid an appropriate rejection by every Republican member of the Senate.

The tactic also establishes the fact that Pelosi unleashed here political junk-yard dogs without any expectation – or even a hope – of having the President convicted and removed from office.  It was a political ruse designed to weaken Trump in advance of the 2020 General Election.  That is why they were in such a rush to act before the election.  That is why they did not want to let Trump’s service in the Oval Office be decided by we the people.

This is a tactic that could easily pull the rug out from under the Democrats in terms of the so-called independent voters.  Anyone who felt even a little uneasy about the efficacy of the impeachment will be repulsed by such a crass and flagrant political move.

If the trial were to be postponed past the election, there would be a lot of happy Republican senators.  They would be off that hook-of-shame upon which the Democrats have been trying to hang them.  Trump would most certainly read Democrat cowardness as an exculpatory event.  He would declare his innocence.

There is also another unforeseen possibility.  What if the Senate takes up the Articles regardless?  What if they pre-emptively pass a resolution repudiating the Articles and declaring the President innocent of all charges – along with a resolution condemning the House for abuse of its own power by violating constitutional requirements.

While it is the tradition for the House to “send bills over to the Senate,” it is not clarified in the Constitution how that takes place.  In other words, can the Senate simply declare that it has accepted the Articles and act accordingly?  That is a question that might have to be decided by the Supreme Court – another one of those constitutional grey areas that pop up now and then.

In the final analysis, it would appear that the Democrats are walking into yet another Robert Mueller investigation scenario.  The best and most rational explanation of Pelosi’s ploy is that they want to delay the trial hoping that they can find more fodder for their impeachment mill.

Let us not forget that House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff – and others – have promised to keep investigating and investigating to see what other straws they can pile on this camel’s back.  They got nothing from the Mueller probe despite their two-year bogus claims.  They got nothing from Mueller’s live testimony – which was supposed to bring the issues to what Democrats see as an illiterate public.  The prolonged and carefully choreographed impeachment extravaganza seems to have raised Trump’s positive polling numbers.  And they face virtual certainty of another humiliation in the Senate.

Pelosi & Company are merely continuing their three years of effort to unseat or defeat this President.  It is an obsession that may actually have the opposite effect. Admittedly, Trump is not an easy guy to like, but the Democrats are making him an easy guy to prefer.

Regardless of the political machinations, attempting to block the trial seems to be a strategy with its backlash built in.  It would tend to prove that the entire impeachment process was the sham the critics proclaimed.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell got off the best comment in the feud.  He pondered, “What is the leverage of refusing to send us something the Senate does not want?”

Holding up the Articles is such a bad idea that it is almost unimaginable that Pelosi and her brood would go down that path.  But we can always hope.

So, there ‘tis.

That b@@@h is now concerned that Trump receive a fair trial in the Senate after she treated him unfairly in the House. Looks like her Botox treatments have affected her brain cells or too many martinis. HIC!

    • Derek Blurb

Nonono, by fair trial, she meant a fair trial on Pelousy’s terms. She already brung da rope

    • Bjay

I totally agree. Prune Face Pelosi cannot be trusted.

  2. John Adams

per the CONSTITUTION, she has to deliver the Articles of impeachment to the SENATE. she legally cannot withhold the House ruling. if she does she is obstructing CONGRESS a crime. SHE is doing exactly what they are accusing Trump of doing. OBSTRUCTION OF CONGRESS.

  3. Donl Longo

Pelosi has NO SAY over the Senate, Go ahead with out her.

    • GRIZZ MANN

The Constitution gives the House of Representatives the sole power to impeach an official, and it makes the Senate the sole court for impeachment trials.

I think the democrats are holding on to them to use as an election carrot for voters to vote in Democratic Senators to take the Senate in 2020.

Why else would she hold onto something she has no control of, but if the Dems think they can convince their base to reclaim the senate then they can Impeach and remove from office our President without a stich of proof or evidence.

Just looking at the democratic big picture.

They know they can’t win the Presidential election, but maybe they can stop the appointed Supreme court picks if they can take back the Senate and they only way they can do that is by holding the articles up until after the election getting their base to change out the Senate.

Summary: There are 33 Senate seats up for grab in the November 2020 election and if the Dems can claim 18 of the 33 up for grabs then Pelosi will submit the articles to a new Democratic Senate and finish impeaching our President.

This is my opinion on the matter, but it is the only reason I can see for holding the articles up in the house. Now if we can take back the house, Nancy last job will be to forward the articles. The Dems can only win IF THEY CAN TAKE THE SENATE back.

The Democrats MUST be STOPPED this election!

You are absolutely right, this is the ultimate election interference. The democrat’s have no concern for the American citizens, only what gets them power.

I am a military retiree, I have seen many young solders lose their rank, put in leavenworth prison, booted from the military and lose their pension and reputation for minor infractions of the rules. Of course thes peons were not part of elite society who today are arrogant self serving jerks. Oh where is the justice! in this great land of the free????

  6. Dale Brown

This whole sham is about them doing exactly what they’re accusing the President of doing. I’m kinda thankful to know that these actions are out and have set a precedent that Republicans can also follow! I would say that now it’s the time to start impeachment processes on all the real law breakers that have upheld this treasonous action. May God uphold the President and the Constitution of the United States of America with his mighty and powerful hands. In Jesus Christ name I pray.

So much for the Democrat lie of urgency to Impeachment. Democrats are Democrats, Über Alles. Lying, Ignorance, Bribery, Hypocrisy, Antisemitism,
Hate, Inappropriate sexual relationship, deceiving, obfuscating, attacking women, Jews, Muslims, Asian-Americans and African Americans, Prevaricators, Racism, misleading, plagiarism, perjurers, Communists, all Democrat résumé enhancements.

    • Cheryle

EXACTLY!, LETS start impeachment of all Democrats that fill that description

Hey Horist, why muddy your column with insults about Trump? He’s easy for me to like and I trust 70 million more like him too. He’s the most honest president in modern history, maybe all of history, and because he doesn’t take crap from the holier than thou kommiecrats I’m not supposed to like him?
    Bullnadler.

    • Larry Horist

Nice handle Sono …lol. To respond to your question … I call them like I see them. I have never admired Trump’s pugnacious personality and name calling. I have lots of Trump voting friend. Half love the guy unconditionally — as you seem to do– and half love the policies, but not the personality — like me. But the more important thing is that we stick together and get him re-elected.

The only reason Pelosi is Speaker comes from the deals cut in her bedroom when she was a younger woman. Some of the old guys still in congress brought her back protecting themselves from exposure. The younger ones were told to support her or else. But she has stuck her foot in do-do up to her butt with this impeachment. As far as the withholding of the articles from the senate the rules are 1. the senate can give her a deadline and 2. the senate can go ahead without her and her goons. But under the law the president has not been impeached until the senate rules upon the house decision. That’s fact and the rule of law. The senate doesn’t give a tinker’s dam if she sends the papers or not..

So when all the dust clears all we have here is really a belly-pounding giant show of how the democrats want us all to know that they really really really really really really… don’t like Trump. And nothing more. What an incredible waste of time and money, criminal in that regard.

  11. Bob

If Nancy Pelosi fails to deliver the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate and does not appoint managers of the Impeachment, Mitch McConnel can simply rule the Articles lack validity and can declare the President vindicated. Nancy Pelosi does not have control over what the Senate can or cannot do, or how the Senate holds it’s trial. Talk about abuse of power, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff and all the other democrats should be charged with a criminal conspiracy and criminal coup to take over the government. It’s time the bitch got her big head out of her ass. God Bless America and God Bless President Trump.

  12. Kurt Walker

I believe she will withhold the articles and stop the impeachment. They have been advised that unless she provides the paperwork to the senate there is no impeachment. And I believe the democrats would rather see the thing stopped right here and they can continue to say WE IMPEACHED HIM even though there is nothing there, by the legal rules. They have violated everything else along the way. There’s no reason they should stop now.

    • Knobby

I read somewhere that once the Articles have been presented, the Senate has only 24 hours to proceed with the trial. IF THIS IS TRUE….
What happens if the Senators go home for the year end recess, the House then delivers the Articles (maybe 26 December), the Senate re-convenes with only the Dems in attendance, the minority leader opens a session, the trial takes all of 15 minutes, and the “Senate” votes to remove the president.
This type of thing would likely break or bend a few rules, but it has been done in the past, which provides a precedent.
Think the establishment of the Federal Reserve Bank, the 13th amendment, and the ACA were all passed in a similar fashion (historians correct me as needed).
Senators: Keep that private jet of yours fueled up for an emergency return to DC!!

      • Joe Gilbertson

I’m not sure anyone but Mitch can call the Senate back to session. And since the Senate makes its own rules and they haven’t set them yet for this impeachment, the 24 hour thing is probably not binding.

  13. David Barron

Is there a time limit on how long she can hold the articles of impeachment before sending it to the Senate?

  14. Dr Dave

I think Nancy needs a nice Christmas present to encourage her to stop obstructing Congress and deliver the articles of impeachment to the Senate. She needs to feel that the American people will give her the attention she wants, so I suggest we send her a Christmas present of 63,000,000 lumps of coal. HO! HO! HO! MERY CHRISTMAS NANCY!
