Hollywood goes red

Hollywood goes red

No, the headline does not refer to the Communist scaremongering of an earlier generation – nor does it mean Republican, for sure.  It refers to the ubiquitous red lapel buttons the celebrity class was wearing to the 2024 Oscar extravaganza.

The red button was to show Hollywood’s support for an unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.  It is no small irony that an industry that was once criticized by antisemites as being “too Jewish” should now have so many antisemites in the ranks.

The Oscar dog-and-pony show was delayed a short time because anti-Israel demonstrators had blocked traffic around the Dolby Theater.  Several Hollywood stars were reported to have had to abandon vehicles and walk to the Theater.  Despite the inconvenience, it appeared a significant number of Tinseltown’s royalty were in lockstep agreement with the street mob.

While some pay lip service to concern over Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel, most of their criticism is against Israel and the manner in which it is conducting the war.  Whether by intent or consequence, the movement calling for a unilateral ceasefire is anti-Israel with antisemitic underpinnings.

Tragic and heart wrenching as it is, the circumstances in Gaza make it impossible to conduct a just and necessary war without significant civilian casualties.  Gaza is a small area with a very dense population.  Hamas employs a strategy of maximizing civilian loss for public relations purposes – and they do so by embedding among the population, at schools, hospitals and even relief centers.

And … there is a manifest and historic hostility to Israel among the Palestinian population, and significant support for Hamas terrorism.  The civilian population has not shown any desire to rid themselves of Hamas or expressed opposition to anti-Israel terrorism as we saw in Iraq and Iran.  Thousands of Palestinian civilians tormented the hostages as they paraded down the streets.

The protests in America are not even handed. In virtually every demonstration and protest, the criticism is against Israel – and is visually a sea of Palestinian flags.  Those wearing red buttons expressed the same anti-Israel sentiments – and there were not many Israeli flag pins to be seen at the Oscars.

The demonstrations have had their effect in Washinton.  President Biden initially provided unequivocal support for Israel in seeking justice and the extermination of Hamas terrorism.  Unfortunately, his strong words were carried on weak knees.  Under political pressure – and with an eye on his reelection — Biden shifted to a more critical view of Israel.  He joined the ceasefire chorus.  Having once said he would not interfere with Israeli war strategies, Biden now warns Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to stay out of Rafah.   Biden calls it a “red line.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, the highest ranking and most powerful Jew in America has called for elections to oust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamen Netanyahu.  Granted, Netanyahu is not the most popular political personality in Israel, Schumer’s throwing him under the bus at this critical time has to be celebrated by Hamas.  It again focuses the war only on Palestinian casualties with little consideration to how the war started – and Hamas’ culpability in the deaths of the civilians.

Biden and Democrats do have a political problem.  Support for Israel seems to be endangering Biden’s reelection prospects – and could prevent Democrats from retaining control of the Senate.  Based on the recent statements from Biden, Vice President Harris and Schumer, it appears that political pragmatism has trumped support for Israel.

Once again American policy seems to be accommodation and splitting differences.  In Gaza and in Ukraine, the only positive option for the United States and the civilized world is victory – meaning the annihilation of Hamas as a viable terrorist organization.

The great irony of all this anti-Israel sentiment expressed in demands for a ceasefire is that Israel has expressed its willingness to discuss both a temporary ceasefire and hostage exchange, but it has been Hamas that has refused.  But then … the Hollywood elite have not been generally known for their intellect or their understanding of world affairs.

Their purpose in our society is to provide entertainment as a diversion from the burdensome issues of the day.  But … those wearing the red buttons abuse their fame and their platform, and to paraphrase the iconic Hollywood song title, “That’s (not) Entertainment.”

So, there ‘tis.

Why ceasefire? Israel was attacked and should wipe out the enemy. And the assholes in Hollywood who constantly want to lecture and talk down to people should mind their own business. The same for Chuck Schumer and his commies. That fool wants to get rid of the Israel priminister . Again. Mind your own business. Hank Williams said it best. Mind your own businesses and you won’t be minding mine.

I’m surprised the Republicans are not wearing a red hammer and sickle…

I’m surprised that you don’t have a hammer and sickle shoved up your ass.

American Jews are now a very divided ethnic group. So many Jews in the U.S. have become so supportive of the Communism of Lenin that made life better for Russian Jews but became so hateful toward Russian Jews under Stalin that they are now opposed to other Jews in the U.S. who realize that American Communism is more like Stalin’s Communism as well as Jews all over the world who are still oppressed by Communism. How did so many American Jews become so antisemitic, the way George Soros describes his family being the most antisemitic Jewish household in Hungary?

Seeking “unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza” is a political position.
“Antisemitic” is a word for a form of ethnic discrimination.
Can someone please connect the two for me? I don’t get it.

Wes … Good Question. We have seen a very significant protest against Israel in terms of the War. It is composed of people who disregard the cause of the war … or how Israel can wipe out Hamas without civilian causalities — especially since Hamas is doing everything possible to increase the civilian casualty count. If you follow the protest speeches and statements, you find calls for the destruction of Israel .. river to shore. Much of the rhetoric is antisemitic. That is not to say that every person calling for a cease fire is antisemitic, but it can be said that they are supporting the Hamas propaganda. If you are calling for Israel to do things that are in the best interest of Hamas — that suggests some level of antisemitism. A permanent cease fire is a win for Hamas — and no accountability for the attack on Israel.

STS Rating STS-0 This article is accurate and can be trusted. Biden only insulted one time, called weak kneed. The article is correct in that Biden has a problem with this issue and it appears that appeasement of hard left red badge folks is not winning the day for him.

I am fine with Biden’s handling of Gaza, but wish it would be just a bit stronger. Palestinians attacked and slaughtered Israeli’s and now they want a pity party because the victim country is kicking their attacker asses. Sorry Palestinians. No pity here. Who is to say how many Palestinians must die to pay in blood for their rape and slaughter of Israeli women, and the beheading of Israeli children. Some of these woke red badge idiots need to read the Old Testament. When you screw with God’s chosen people, you pay the price, and that price is often that God makes sure the Israelis wipe you out!!!

For any doubters, read some of these accounts: If you check the OT you will find that God had King Saul slaughter whole populations due to their attacks on Israel. And King David did more God ordered slaughter of Israel’s enemies than Saul which is why God told David that David would not be allowed to build God’s temple because David had too much blood on his hands. God himself slaughtered 185,000 Assyrians before the Israelis ever got to the battlefield, 2 Kings 19:35. God also ordered the slaughter of the Edomites, 1 Samuel 14:47 as well as the Amalekites, 1 Samuel 15:3. In the case of the Amelikites God told them to kill every man, woman and child and cattle and herds and take nothing as spoils. Check where God predicts that he will wipe out the Edomites in Obadiah 1:18. Maybe red badge movie stars do not realize this, but Edom is another name for Esau whom God was against when he influence his mother to tell Jacob how to get blind Isaac to give the birthright to Jacob. Esau, or Edom, is considered by Almighty God to be immoral, despicable, and deplorable. Today’s Palestinians are the lineage of Esau.

Now how it all relates, realize that Yassir Arafat, the Palestinians (descendants of Israel’s enemy Philistine (remember Sampson?) who married Canaanites, and even the current leader of Lebanon, are all bloodline descendants of Esau who is also called Edom – people that God said he would wipe away. And do not forget Deuteronomy 20:16–17 where God ordered the elimination of the Canaanites. And then go to Hebrews 12: 16 where God says, “See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.” Read Malachi 1: 3-4 where the Lord God Almighty says plainly: 3 but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his hill country into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals.” 4 Edom may say, “Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins.” But this is what the LORD Almighty says: “They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the LORD.

I think you and I agree that we hate seeing innocent civilians killed, we abhor it. But we must question how innocent they really are by bloodline, and by electing Hamas back in 2006-07. These people have had many years to turn in these killers of Israel, shooters of rockets, and did nothing. Many of them helped build Hamas tunnel systems by accepting work in exchange for Iranian oil money. I think many of these alleged innocents would rather live in peace and regret electing Hamas – but it is too late now. God is exacting His pounds of flesh. And who is to question his punishment and how many pounds he will extract this time? We will never understand in this life.

If Palestinians want my pity, they will first have to renounce Hamas and turn them all in and rid themselves of these tunnels. And they must start abiding in peace and speaking peace with Israel – otherwise, wipe’em out Bibi!!!

Sorry Tom, but you missed it on your response. This is yet another tome showing the ignorance of the writer. I have tried to educate him before but some people are too effing stupid to understand facts. Being ‘anti-Israel’ is not being ‘anti-Semitic’ which Larry alleges-it is being against the government of a country that has leaned too far to the right for those of us that are slightly left is America center-those of us who Larry alleged to be antisemitic have no problems with Jewish people-just the Israeli government. After 70 + years, Israel has the right to exist-but they need to stop treating the Palestinians like second class citizens. No, Palestinians are not blameless in this matter, but they were promised a self-governing homeland over 50 years ago, which idiots like the current PM of Israel continue to renege on. The attacks on October 7 were grotesque, but the Israelis are achieving virtually nothing towards continued attacking of Gaza, other than killing a lot of civilians. Do you (and Israeli leaders) think they are not shooting themselves in the foot by this continued genocide? They are radicalizing yet another generation of Arabs by this continued attack of Gaza. Schumer is 100% correct, the corrupt administration of Netanyahoo needs to be replaced-both to end this disastrous killing of innocent civilians and so he can finally face the corruption charges that he has been avoiding…
