Is Biden Building a Border Wall?
Believe it or not, Biden Administration officials are thinking about resuming border wall construction along the US-Mexico border.
“I think it’s great that they reversed themselves, but a lot of damage was done because we were gonna have that wall almost complete. You know, it delayed two and a half years because of lawsuits,” said former President Donald Trump. “If they agree that they’re going to complete it, that’s a great thing, that’s a very positive step.”
Even Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas – whose family fled to the US from Cuba in the 1960’s – has expressed the need to fortify the border.
“The president has communicated quite clearly his decision that the emergency that triggered the devotion of DOD funds to the construction of the border wall is ended,” said Mayorkas. “But that leaves room to make decisions as the administration, as part of the administration, in particular areas of the wall that need renovation, particular projects that need to be finished” including “gaps,” “gates,” and other areas “where the wall has been completed but the technology has not been implemented.”
Congressional authorization has already funded some projects, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed. But official border wall construction remains paused.
President Biden’s policy decisions have attracted vast numbers of migrants, including thousands of unaccompanied minors.
As I wrote in a previous article (click here), there were more apprehensions during the first 2 months of Biden’s presidency than during the entirely of 2020. Without adequate facilities, unaccompanied minors are being held in cells made for adults. In many cases, they are there far longer than the legal limit of 72 hours.
Now, Biden must decide whether to make good on his campaign promises to end border wall construction or swallow his pride and protect the nation from a flood of refugees.
Author’s Note: It is unlikely the Biden Administration will work towards anything resembling Trump’s Border Wall. But it is promising (and hilarious) that they’re calling to fortify the border less than three months after opening it.

one of his first actions as President, Biden ordered a pause on wall construction and called for a review of projects and a plan to redirect funds within 60 days. Customs and Border Protection, in coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers, says that to comply with the President’s proclamation it’s suspended wall construction projects “except for activities that are safety related.”
The 60-day review period ended more than a month ago. But pressed for answers on its border wall plans in recent days, the Biden administration hasn’t said much.
“Federal agencies are continuing to review wall contracts and develop a plan to submit to the president soon — it is — it is paused,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki recently told reporters.
On Friday, the administration announced it’s taking steps to send billions of dollars back to the Pentagon, canceling all contracts on the border that used funds originally intended for military missions and functions.
