U.N. Says 12 Years Left to Stop the ‘Climate Catastrophe’
“
In the newly released report from the United Nations (U.N.), the organization’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change gives the world 12 years to control climate change and to stop the catastrophic effects of global warming.
“”Failure to act, according to a new report released by the top scientific panel studying climate change, will usher in rising temperatures, rising sea levels and severe weather changes affecting millions of people across the world,”” writes The Spokesman-Review. “”The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found that the globe could warm to 1.5 Celsius above pre-industrial levels within 15 years. And to avoid more serious warming and its various consequences, the global community will need to cut carbon emissions in half by 2030 and be carbon-neutral by 2050.””
91 scientists from 40 countries analyzed more than 6,000 scientific studies pertaining to climate change for the U.N. Report.
But global warming stories continue to be ignored by the media due to other stories in today’s active political climate often being deemed more important.
“”There is a lot happening in the nation and the world, a constant rush of news. Much of it deserves our attention as journalists and news consumers,” wrote Margaret Sullivan for The Washington Post. “But we need to figure out how to make the main thing matter. In short, when it comes to climate change, we — the media, the public, the world — need radical transformation, and we need it now.”
However, President Donald Trump rejects the notion of global warming.
Then there’s former Vice President Al Gore who has made ridiculous and incorrect statements about climate change.
In the late 2000s, Gore suggested that some scientists predicted that the Earth’s ice caps would be completely melted by 2014 due to global warming.
More recently, Gore was called out by scientists after he made a false climate-change claim about Hurricane Florence.
He declared that both Hurricane Florence, a hurricane that struck the Carolinas in September and the Typhoon Mangkhut, which hit the Philippines a day later were attributed to the climate change problem.
However, scientists are pointing out that it is clear that Gore did not fact-check before making his statement since this wasn’t a first-time occurrence.
Gore is now pointing to the U.N.’s recent report saying its time to take action yet again.
“The report will encourage the development of new technologies, which is important,” said Gore. “However, time is running out, so we must capitalize and build on the solutions available today.”
But these time limit claims about climate change have been made time and time again.
In 1989, the U.N. warned that “entire nations could be wiped from the face of the earth” if climate change efforts weren’t increased by 2000.
“U.N. issues yet another climate tipping point — Humans given only 12 more years to make ‘unprecedented changes in all aspects of society,’” wrote Marc Morano for the Climate Depot.
“Every 10 years, climate scientists say we have 10 years left to save the planet,” said Tony Heller of RealClimateScience.com. “Sometimes they want to save it from global warming, other times they say they want to save it from global cooling.”
Critics also claim that these statements often aren’t presented with solutions.
“Even with erroneous attribution of extreme weather/climate events and projections using climate models that are running too hot and not fit for purpose of projecting 21st century climate change, the IPCC still has not made a strong case for this massive investment to prevent 1.5C warming,” said Judith A. Curry, a former George Tech atmospheric-sciences professor and author of the Climate Etc. blog.
Author’s note: The problem is the media and its readers have already heard these climate change threats before. We keep getting new deadlines and people are no longer taking them seriously because Al Gore and the U.N. continue to cry wolf. Check out Al Gore Criticized for False Predictions on Climate Change
Editor’s note: In addition to the mainstream climate group that believes the world is about to come to a catastrophic end, there is a vocal group of scientists that believe CO2 is NOT a cause of climate change and they can prove it. In fact, this group says the most likely change we will see is a mini ice age. Either way, the solution can be found at http://theenergynet.com.
