Marco Rubio Earns South Carolina Gov. Endorsement
On Wednesday evening, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley officially announced her endorsement of Marco Rubio. The candidate has recently grown in popularity within the Republican party as he is seen as the best contender to go against Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.
Although Haley’s endorsement may not hold much weight, since it didn’t help Mitt Romney’s campaign in 2012, it still signifies the steady rise of Rubio.
“I wanted somebody with fight. I wanted somebody with passion. I wanted somebody that had conviction to do the right thing, but I wanted somebody humble enough that remembers that you work for all the people,” Haley told the crowd at a recent rally.
The announcement was made as all of the Republican candidates prepare for the South Carolina vote on Saturday night. Ted Cruz has launched aggressive marketing in the state to try to take down his opponents, highlight both Trump’s former pro-choice stance and Rubio’s immigration policy.
Although Trump currently leads the polls in South Carolina, the most recent national poll shows that Cruz has a slight advantage over Trump.
