Lindsey Graham: A Loser Talks about Losing

Lindsey Graham is at it again. This Thursday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” the outspoken South Carolina senator whined about the fractured Republican Party and slammed Donald Trump for threatening to destroy his beloved “conservative movement.”

“We’re already split,” he says of the Republican Party. “We can lose in 2016 and we probably will…If Trump is the standard-bearer, it’s not about 2016. It’s about losing the heart and soul of the conservative movement. I’m not gonna stand behind a guy that gets David Duke’s support.”

This is a man who supported McCain in 2000 and 2008, and Romney in 2012 (after he had already won the primary). After he quite his own campaign, he supported Jeb Bush, who quit, and now supports Ted Cruz (whom he doesn’t like) who is currently losing.  His support seems to be the kiss of death for Presidential candidates.

Graham announced his own bid for the presidency last year on June 1st, telling CBS that he wanted to run because the world is “falling apart.” As it turns out, Graham’s catchy slogans and hawkish foreign policy ideas weren’t enough to attract much support and he ended up bowing out in December – at which time he endorsed Jeb Bush. 

When Jeb Bush stepped down, Graham reluctantly threw in his cards with Ted Cruz. It’s no secret that the Southern Baptist has criticized his fellow Senator in the past, but now he has called for anti-Trump Republicans to rally behind Cruz as their last chance to defeat the billionaire frontrunner. 

Ted Cruz has become the go-to candidate for Republicans who are concerned that Trump will destroy traditional conservatism. He is the only one with a “fighting chance,” against Hillary Clinton, says Graham.

The South Carolina senator also worries that Trump’s harsh rhetoric will push Hispanic and female voters away from the Republican Party. Statistics prove otherwise. 

“It’s no longer about winning the election for me,” says the guy who was in the race for less than 7 months. “It’s trying to salvage a party that I love and conservatism as I know it.”   

Known and criticized for his bipartisan tendencies, Lindsey Graham was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1992. He moved up to the US House in 1995 and since 2002 has served in the US Senate.

In our opinion Graham’s statements are unconscionable.  No wonder so many conservatives have rejected the “Republican establishment.” With friends like these, who needs enemies.
