Is George Soros the True Founder of Black Lives Matter? Giant Donation Revealed.

Black Lives Matter seems to be making more headlines than Donald Trump these days – a surprising achievement for the relatively young advocacy-turned-extremist group that sprung up following the death of Michael Brown in 2014. 

Now we learn that George Soros’s Open Society Institute donated $650,000 to “invest in technical assistance and support for the groups at the core of the burgeoning Black Lives Matter movement.” According to hacked documents reviewed by Breitbart, the Open Society viewed the unrest in Baltimore last year as a “unique opportunity” to create “accountability” for local police while lending a hand to activists in revolutionizing the city. 

Black Lives Matter has become synonymous with words like “violence” in recent months, and is quick to get involved whenever a cop confronts a black suspect (no matter what the crime). BLM “activists” wrecked havoc in Milwaukee last weekend when they set fire to buildings and threw bricks at police officers and firefighters following the police shooting of 23-year-old Sylville Smith. 

Smith fled a police checkpoint and aimed a stolen pistol at a police officer before he was shot. The following investigation revealed Smith’s lengthy criminal background. Unfortunately for Soros, his name has now become linked with the racist violence perpetuated by BLM. 

Soros’s donation came in response to the death of Freddie Grey (April 2015), which resulted in weeks of protests and violent riots in the city of Baltimore. “While many lamented the damage done, the overwhelming sentiment is that the uprising has catalyzed a paradigm shift in Baltimore that offers opportunities for major justice reforms,” reads a report by the Open Society. 

“In particular, recent events offer a unique opportunity to accelerate the dismantling of structural inequality generated and maintained by local law enforcement and to engage residents who have historically been disenfranchised in Baltimore City in shaping and monitoring reform.”

A more recent Open Society report notes that BLM had a hand in influencing the 2016 presidential campaign: “Leaders of Black Lives Matter and The Movement for Black Lives worked to influence candidate platforms during the 2016 primary season. This came alongside the recent acknowledgement by political strategists that African-American voters may be much more pivotal to the 2016 general election than previously forecasted.”

Soros is also involved with the Movement for Black Lives (M4BL), which has been busy making outrageous demands. On August 1st, the group published an ambitious and detailed policy agenda including “reparations” for harms related to slavery, redlining in housing, mass incarceration, education policy, and food insecurity. The platform pushes for a universal basic income and refers to Israel as an “apartheid state” guilty of “genocide.” 

More than 50 organizations, including the Ford Foundation, have pledged their support to the group. The Ford Foundation is the nation’s 5th-largest philanthropy group, with more than $12 billion in assets. 

“That’s why now is the time to stand by and amplify movements rooted in love, compassion, and dignity for all people. Now is the time to call for an end to state violence directed at communities of color. And now is the time to advocate for investment in public services – including but not limited to police reform – together with education, health, and employment in communities and for people that have historically had less opportunity and access to all those things,” states Ford.

Along with Borealis Philanthropy, the Ford Foundation has recently launched the Black-Led Movement Fund (BLMF), a 6-year donor campaign with the goal to raise $100 million for the M4BL. “The BLMF provides grants, movement building resources, and technical assistance to organizations working to advance the leadership and vision of young, Black, queer, feminists, and immigrant leaders who are shaping and leading a national conversation about criminalization, policing, and race in America,” states Borealis.

In addition to raising $100 million, BLMF will work with Benedict Consulting on “the organizational capacity building needs of a rapidly growing movement.” 

As far as we’re concerned, this mishmash of a platform combined with the shocking underwriting commitment offers more proof that BLM is being used as a vehicle for left-wing politics. Bill Johnson, executive director of the National Association of Police Organization, is one of many individuals that are highly disappointed in the Ford Foundation and in George Soros.

“The Ford Foundation has traditionally been leftist, at least since the 1970’s, on law-enforcement matters. So it’s not a huge surprise, but it’s certainly disappointing,” says Johnson. “I guess potential donors may want to look at the [Black Lives Matter] movement and see the damage, destruction, and murders that they’ve left in their wake.”

This grant-making partnership is dangerous in that it lends legitimacy to a violent group that has strayed too far from its original intentions. It’s tragic, says Johnson, “because instead of having a serious movement that might have been a basis for dialogue and improving relations in communities, especially communities of color, it’s kind of become in some ways a very violent movement, in some ways a very, very far-left [movement] with an almost statist agenda.”

As for Soros, Johnson says that it would be nice to see him “try to give some nuts-and-bolts help for people who are hurting, instead of throwing money around on grand schemes.”
