Trump wants the public to get a second opinion … and that is a good thing

According to press accounts, the Trump administration is recruiting doctors who may not agree with the progressive political narrative – and the doctors they choose to promote their narrative.

It is good medical advice to get a second opinion on matters of serious health issues.  It is not uncommon for doctors to disagree on diagnoses and treatments.  A doctor is not always right.  Too often they can be tragically wrong.

By way of personal experience, I came to the gate of the hereafter on three occasions – in one case I was intubated, and the doctors even advised my family that I WOULD die within hours.  I fooled them.  While I was saved by the extraordinary work of highly competent doctors in each case, it is noteworthy that in all three instances, I teetered at the precipice of eternity BECAUSE of doctors.  In one case, it was the result of incompetent surgery.  In another, I was released from an emergency room against my own recommendation only to be back in critical condition less than 48 hours later.  In the third and most serious case, my condition was solely the result of medications prescribed by my doctor at the time.

I mention my personal history because it is illustrative of what is happening on a grand scale with the Covid-19 pandemic.  There is now – and has consistently been – a range of diverse opinions as to what to do at any given time.  There is disagreement over medications, vaccines and social policy. There has never been a consensus among medical professionals.  In fact, such highly revered professionals as Dr. Anthony Fauci and Dr. Deborah Birx have changed their advice over time.

Fauci, like President Trump, did not see Covid-19 as a significant threat to the United States back in January – and he said so on several occasions.  In one interview he said we cannot trust the epidemiological models because even though they are “useful,” they are “always wrong.”  In terms of masks, Fauci once discouraged the use of them since they provide little to no protection from the virus.  In fact, he did not wear masks in public until recent days.

Fauci also recommended that we not overstate the benefit of testing.  When asked by a reporter whether he had been tested, Fauci emphatically said “no, because only those with symptoms should be tested.”  He has often said that there is no need to ever have tests for the entire population.

Dr. Birx was in general agreement with Fauci on all the aforementioned issues.  However, she recently suggested – to the horror of the left-wing media — that there may be a significant overcount in the number of Covid-19 caused deaths.

Unfortunately, the entire issue has been politicized – and even worse – weaponized by Democrats and their media allies to try to defeat Trump in the 2020 General Election.  According to the anti-Trump narratives, the President is responsible for the spread of Covid-19 and the subsequent deaths.  He is constantly accused of not listening to his medical advisor even though Fauci, himself, said Trump follows their advice in almost every instance.  They accuse him of recklessly promoting medications that Fauci, himself, once said showed promise and had virtually no serious side effects for most people.

And most egregiously, they accuse Trump of re-opening America to the detriment and danger of the popular – even though it is the governors, including Democrat governors – who are moving forward in reducing restrictions.  In the past, the media claimed that Trump did not have the authority to close or open society.  That was the reserved powers of the governors – which they exercised in both shutting down and re-opening the country.  Now they blame him.

In the pursuit of Trump, we have reporters dishing out medical advice and diagnosing the situation.  They provide a platform for every medical professional who will agree with and endorse their anti-Trump narrative.  They have grossly exaggerated the impact and seriousness of Covid-19.  It is not the sort of deadly scourge that ravaged Europe in the Middle Ages – even though they report as if it is.

They now ACCUSE the White House with recruiting doctors more supportive of the things Trump has been saying and doing.  Trump is literally being criticized for providing medical backup for his comments because the left arrogantly – and typically – believes that their opinion is exclusively correct.  How can anyone dare to refute their mendacious narratives?  How dare anyone disagree?  Unfortunately, their belief in their own omniscience is built-in to the progressive DNA.

Trump not only has a right to present professional support that might provide the foundation for his opinions and actions, he has an obligation to do so.  Even in the shady court-of-public-opinion, a person has a right to mount a defense.  In fact, in a real court, it is standard operating procedure of both sides to present medical authorities with divergent views in situations involving health issues.

And yet, the left tries to make a valuable service seem corrupt.  They not only malign Trump – no news there – but they assassinate the character of anyone who might push back against the left’s political narratives.

All sides say that listening to the doctors is generally good advice, but so is a second opinion from another doctor – especially if there is reason to believe that the first doctor may not be totally correct.

As in my personal life, I am not totally confident in everything I am hearing from the medical authorities that the left-wing media prop up as THEIR experts. As a consumer of information, I am most eager to hear more debate among the professionals.  I am not interested in being told by the media that I must believe those they put forward or I am deemed to be a cult-following nincompoop.  How dare they.
