Why Republicans are Asking the DOJ to Oversee Michigan’s 2026 Elections
Election integrity against potential fraud by Democrat officials remains the headache of Republicans in many, if not all, blue states. In Michigan, this problem looms over next year’s state elections where the Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is running for the Governor, meaning she will be overseeing the same election that is supposed to make her the Governor of the state. So the problem is obvious.
As reported by Just the News (November 14), nearly two dozen Republican lawmakers in Michigan, led by Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, sent a letter to Attorney General (AG) Pam Bondi requesting her to let the Department of Justice (DOJ) oversee the 2026 election in the state. The letter, dated November 13, makes the point that Benson’s candidacy for the Governor’s office creates an “inherent and unavoidable conflict of interest” that puts her office’s duty of fair oversight of elections in jeopardy.
The problem of election integrity in Michigan is particularly serious with Secretary Benson as the election chief since she has a history of disregard for election integrity laws. The letter by the state Republicans to AG Bondi includes a few notable instances of such violations by Benson spanning the election cycles from 2020 right up to this year. As the letter notes, Benson violated Michigan’s Campaign Finance Act in January this year. Not unsurprisingly, the state’s Democrat AG Dana Nessel chose not to punish Benson for the violation but simply issued her a warning.
The letter also notes that in September, the DOJ filed a lawsuit against Benson and the state of Michigan because she refused to hand over unredacted voter registration records requested by the Justice Department in violation of multiple federal election integrity laws. In 2024 and 2020, Benson repeatedly failed to ensure election integrity in the general elections. And if that isn’t enough, the letter has more to bring against her:
Moreover, Secretary Benson has been involved in over 69 election-related lawsuits, more than
the combined total of Michigan’s previous four secretaries of state, and has lost several key cases challenging her handling of elections.
Based on this long history of Benson’s repeated violations, failures, and conflicts, the Republicans in the state cannot trust her with ensuring the fairness and transparency in an election where she herself is a candidate for the state’s highest public office. And it calls for the need of federal oversight of the elections.
Hardly a week before the Republicans sent the DOJ the aforementioned letter, Just the News reported another measure by Benson that indicates her designs for interfering with the coming election’s integrity instead of safeguarding it. The story reported (November 9) on new election rules proposed by Benson that would make fraud at the ballot easier while making it more difficult to clean voter rolls.
The concerns over election integrity in Democrat-run states are also paralleled by similar worries in blue cities and counties within red states. Just this month, Mayor Joe Ceballos of Coldwater in Kansas was charged for illegally voting multiple times in different elections. Ceballos, a Mexican, is a not a US citizen yet but permanent resident who was criminally charged by the state’s Republican-led law enforcement for voting in elections held in 2022, 2023 and 2024. In addition, he is also facing perjury charges.

The democrats can’t be trusted.
If that’s not a case of the fox guarding the hen house. Look what happened in Arizona with Katie Hobbs, same thing and she has been absolutely horrible.
Tarheel: What Arizona voter fraud is like this allegation? You just don’t like your Democratic governor. Get over it, she won. (isn’t that what you keep telling us about the POTUS (pedophile of the United States?). Richard, you honestly do not trust ANY Democrats? Wow, that’s harsh.
“As the letter notes, Benson violated Michigan’s Campaign Finance Act in January this year.”
She violated, it is a nothing burger, she was warned, it’s over, move on.
Folks, the CRIME here was use of a state building for a political press conference during a frigid lake effect event. Using a freakin lobby to avoid being frozen. The reason was use of the lobby of the Richard H. Austin Building to hold a January 22, 2025 presser for her announcement to run. That’s right, she heinously brought the folks inside the lobby as it was 2 to 18 degrees out, hazy, with blowing snow and a sharp wind. For folks living around the Great Lakes, you know what lake effect winds and snow are like. IMO, the punishment met fit the crime and this is a nothing burger. The crime requires a knowing violation of the law is a misdemeanor crime, punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. A fat traffic ticket where I bet few go to jail. Benson claimed she did not know, that’s a stretch, but good luck disproving that one. During the conference, she even said, when asked why inside, that it was because it was very cold and uninhabitable outside. Republicans are right to call her out on it, but really — you want blood?
It was freaking cold outside. January in Michigan et al. Haze means more humidity and that’s extra rough. IMO, they were in their rights to hand out the warning and MIGHT have gone as far as to assess the $1,000 fine, but really, would that have changed anything? Dempsey should try a little Lake Effect. Maybe he would chill a bit then. Of course, he was probably rooting to have the entire Michigan press get frostbite, he is one cruel bastard from a very violent Muslim homeland.
I think if the tables were turned, you would be screaming “nothing burger,” and we would be saying “heinous crime” and you would call us snowflakes which is kind of fitting, situationally speaking.
As to “chicken in the henhouse,” if the stupid, brain-dead, partisan hack Dempsey bothered to look, in Michigan, the Secretary of State has an arms-length power over elections to avoid exactly what Dempsey falsely accuses. He is clueless, no brains, dumb. In Michigan, while the secretary of state sets rules and regulations, it is local clerks who work with voters more directly, creating a layer of separation between the state’s highest election official and the voters who may or may not be supporting them. For Michigan, this is a ridiculous assumption by the brain-dead Dempsey. He might argue the laws she established, but not the operation and implementation. BUSTED.
Republican assholes like Dempsey are always asking for monitors and “comprehensive oversight.” The real reason is they feel a lower vote count favors them so scaring the fuck out of people works in their favor. They want to put their fingers on the scale just like they favor gerrymandering big time this election cycle. They live to cheat. Monitors are no big deal, Biden did it in Michigan last time. Comprehensive oversight is complete BULLSHIT as an undefined term and therefore, in Trumpistan this could mean ICE agents looking for “the brown people,” maybe masked guys with long guns supported by helicopters and tanks, and that is a huge deal. There is no known legal definition to “comprehensive oversight” and that makes it another thing altogether. Dumb dumb Dempsey did not define “comprehensive oversight” either, he just likes the term.
Historically, there is little proof as to major election fraud in Michigan State elections that, in no way, need to have Federal oversight.
As to not releasing election records with voter information unredacted, good. Really don’t need Musk getting even more data. I do not want my voting records released to the Trump administration. Voting management is up to the States. Dempsey and the Federal Government should focus on their responsibilities and quit trying to make the Federal Government watch over what the States currently are responsible for. Why does Dempsey continue to want the FED to put their hands down our pants and control our lives. State’s rights do not matter to Dempsey.
Dempsey, who has the mental logic of pudding stupidly states: “Moreover, Secretary Benson has been involved in over 69 election-related lawsuits, more than the combined total of Michigan’s previous four secretaries of state, and has lost several key cases challenging her handling of elections. Based on this long history of Benson’s repeated violations, failures, and conflicts, the Republicans in the state cannot trust her with ensuring the fairness and transparency in an election where she herself is a candidate for the state’s highest public office. And it calls for the need of federal oversight of the elections.”
The fallacy in his logic is his biased one-sided view where he is good and righteous and “THEY” are evil, cheating, whores. He claims 69 lawsuits proves she’s guilty. Really? If the quantity of cases and indictments determines guilt then Trump is guilty, guilty, guilty. I am not sure she lost ANY of the lawsuits and, using Dempsey logic, conclude that 69 frivolous lawsuits prove Dempsey’s team is guilty. I have further proof that this logic proves how Dempsey and company roll. Remember, over 65 lost lawsuits by Trump for the 2020 election? 65 lost. He did not win a single major case, and only one minor. A half dozen recounts by Dempsey’s own people all lost, not a single win and his people were doing the counting. Based on the evidence, Dempsey is both the liar and the loser in all this who cannot and will not defend his lies. That is his way, to spew this crap and then be incapable of defending himself. BUSTED.
To believe this liar, when his lies are shown to light, is on all of us. Joe even pays for lies from this Muslim from a terror-sponsoring nation. Does not make sense, must make cents for Joe.
Comey is innocent. James is innocent. Halligan is fired. Baraka charges dropped, no charges against Padilla after tackling him and shackling him for asking a question. Remember, team Dempsey are the ones holding back on the Epstein files and giving convicted sex trafficker of underaged girls Club Fed and catered meals. His party pardons felons, drug kingpins, and pedophiles all the time. He holds the Presidential record for freeing felons. The Felon King believes in birds-of-a-feather, and Dempsey is his bird fer sure. Many of the 1/6 convicts released are back in jail or court with one that Dempsey supports accused of an assassination attempt against the Democratic minority head of the House of Representatives. Yeah, he’s the guy to listen to about all this. Sure.
