Trump puts Kari Lake in ideal position

I have never been a big fan of Arizona firebrand Kari Lake.  She first came to fame as an anchor on KSAZ-TV in Phoenix, Arizona.   She has since proven herself to be devoted to President Trump – a bit too devoted in my opinion.  Too dogmatic.  That also appears to have been the opinion of most Arizona voters during Lake’s bid for governor and then United States senator.  She lost both.

I was not turned off by Lake’s zeal for traditional American (conservative) values.  Just too dogmatic on the political narratives. It never occurred to me that President Trump would find the perfect job for her in his incoming administration.  But he did.

Trump has named Lake as his choice to run the Voice of America (VOA). The agency was founded about the time the United States entered World War II.  Its purpose was to broadcast American values and exceptionalism into adversarial nations.  It was American propaganda vehicle to push back on the propaganda emanating from the adversarial nations.

According to the VOA policy statement:

“A licensee of an international broadcast station shall render only an international broadcast service which will reflect the culture of this country, and which will promote international goodwill, understanding and cooperation. Any program solely intended for, and directed to an audience in the continental United States does not meet the requirements for this service.”

Initially a radio broadcast platform, VOA eventually expanded to television and cyber media. It currently broadcasts to more than 350 million people in 48 languages.  Its official purpose is to provide “news, information, and cultural programming through the internet, mobile and social media, radio, and television.”

It is no criticism to say that the Voice of America is a vehicle for American propaganda – in the best sense of that word.  After all, it only broadcasts information and opinions exclusively favorable to the United States.  It is good propaganda because it is based on truth – contrary to the bogus propaganda that emanates from nations like China, Russia and North Korea (and domestically emanating from news platforms like MSNBC).

Whatever one might think of Lake in terms of partisan politics, we should all agree that she is a dynamic spokesperson for traditional American values and United States policies.

In response to her appointment, Lake said:

“I am honored that President Trump has asked me to lead the Voice of America. @VOANews is a vital international media outlet dedicated to advancing the interests of the United States by engaging directly with people across the globe and promoting democracy and truth.”

Under a trump administration, the VOA will not be prone to progressive diplomatic double talk and global gobbledygook as it has been in the recent past.  Lake will make sure VOA is a strong clear and convincing messenger for American Exceptionalism – as it was originally intended to be. This nomination should be a very smooth and swift confirmation.

So, there ‘tis.
