Thanks To Trump Crackdown Immigrant Detention Centers Are Full
In the wake of President Trump’s much-needed crackdown on illegals, the Department of Homeland Security is reporting that its immigrant detention centers are at full capacity, housing about 47,600 individuals.
Speaking to reporters on background, DHS officials said they are working with the Marshals Service, Department of Defense, and Federal Bureau of Prisons to increase bed space as they ask Congress for more funding.
Arrested individuals are also being released from detention on a case-by-case basis using ICE’s Alternatives to Detention program based on medical or humanitarian concerns, they said.
The senior DHS and ICE officials also provided new arrest data cataloging Trump’s first 50 days back in office. According to DHS data, from Jan. 20 to March 10, 2025, ICE has arrested 32,809 individuals.
According to officials, of those, 14,111 were convicted criminals, 9,980 have pending criminal charges and 8,718 have only immigration-related violations.
“We expect these ICE arrests and removal numbers will only go up as we unleash an agency that has had its hands tied behind its back for the past four years,” said acting ICE Director Todd Lyons. “These ICE enforcement operations are not only removing criminals from the American communities, but they are also discouraging people from coming to our country illegally.”
In terms of those with suspected ties to criminal organizations using the same time frame, officials said ICE had arrested 1,155 suspected gang members and 39 known or suspected terrorists.
DHS officials have now turned to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Department of Defense, and United States Marshals Service to increase bed space while the agency asks Congress for more funding to help carry out President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan.
Trump’s team has also partnered with private, for-profit centers to hold migrants awaiting deportation.
The administration remains confident it will continue carrying out Trump’s immigration agenda at the same pace. Since being appointed as White House border czar, Tom Homan has sought cooperation from local and state governments to assist ICE in immigration-related arrests. Pretty funny Bill. Trump is playing the optics games so make-shift jails, people doubled-over in chains, military transport. Remember that there is a huge number of non-criminals, beyond the border jumping misdemeanor, in this bunch we are treating worse than cattle.
Here’s one way of looking at it: we had 33,000 potential workers, (even criminals maybe working, who knows), we don’t know real number, and of those workers, most paying taxes, none getting social security but paying for it, buying our stuff, renting homes, paying school taxes. And now we have 33,000 guests eating free food, living in free accommodations, being watched and waited upon by a lot of taxpayer funded staff. Many to take million dollar airlifts instead of cheap common carrier, for most-excellent photo ops complete with the double-over chained look, only to be thrown away in a third-world super max prison they will probably not escape from alive. Great spectacle, almost like the games in the coliseum. What a show for world view.
That’s kind of gross IMO and unnecessary for us to be this cruel.
Here’s another way at looking at his success. He’s booking about 600 a day for his first 50 days; let’s give him the benefit on the ramp and say he’s bumped up to 1,000 a day. Oh heck, he’s at 600 a day, let’s say he gets to 2,000 a day. At that pace, he will finish the 11,000,000 undocumented in a mere 15 years.
