Schumer explains Democrats attack … attack … attack … strategy

In a recent interview on MSNBC, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer explained the Democrats’ future strategy – at least his version. He prefaced his explanation by first claiming that the Democratic Party was totally united. Uh huh!
Contrary to Schumer’s wishful thinking, Democrats are all over the media, differing and bickering on how to handle Trump. “Unity” does not seem to be the applicable word. The divide is between the currently dominant Bernie Sanders/ Ocasio-Cortez faction and such moderates(?) as California Governor Gavin Newsom and former Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan is obvious.
As evidence of his unity theory, Schumer cites the recent votes in Congress in which all Democrats voted against Trump proposals – including the deportation of criminal aliens … eliminating fraud and waste from government operations … extending the tax break for all American taxpayers … and preserving women’s sports for women. All that legislative unity has gotten Democrats the lowest favorability rating (27%) in modern times.
So, what is Schumer’s grand strategy for taking on Trump and his policies? He is doubling down on the strategy Democrats have used unsuccessfully for several years – attack Trump and everything he does. And secondarily attack everyone who supports him.
Schumer detailed his strategy with three upcoming attack events. Social Security Day will be an attack on a phony issue – a HUGE political lie. They will oppose cuts in Social Security benefits.
It is nothing less than mendacious fearmongering. No one legitimately on Social Security now or in the foreseeable future will have their benefits terminated or reduced … period. Eventually, the truth will emerge as we Social Security recipients realize that we are getting our checks as usual and on time. The Trump policy is to end fraud and waste.
Schumer’s second announced event will be “Healthcare Day,” in which Democrats will contend that Trump policies will take away Medicare and Medicaid. Another lie. The Trump policy is to rid those programs of billions of dollars of waste and fraud – something Democrats are loathe to do.
The third event announced by Schumer will be Climate Day. In terms of mobilizing voters, that one simply lacks gravitas. It is an abstraction for most voters – unlike the things that impact their pocketbooks. It excites a portion of the Democrat base, but that’s it.
The Democrats’ main problem – as evidenced by Schumer — is that they are stuck on negative. They are not offering any positive pro-active alternatives to Trump’s policies. They do not have any plans (or desire) to close the border and deport criminals and undesirables. They have no plan to reduce federal spending, the deficit or the National Debt. They have no plan to push back against unfair trade practices.
They are so obsessed with resistance to Trump at every turn that they wind up defending waste and fraud in government … supporting men in women’s sports and locker rooms… opposing deportation of gangbangers, drug cartellians and vicious criminals … condoning attacks on Jewish students … and supporting nutty woke pronoun policies.
The radical left is so deranged over Trump that they even attack their allies who take a more moderate (and sensible) approach. They attack anyone who even talks to Trump or says anything positive – such as Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, Gavin Newsom, Bill Maher, Josh Rogan and others.
Democrats seem to be stuck with three losing strategies—oppose EVERYTHING Trump says or does … shameful fearmongering … and class warfare. Schumer is simply repackaging the old losing strategy – and they should be able to see how that turned out.
So, there ‘tis.
Larry, As per usual you are living in a bit of dream world, and yes Schumer is right to target these three areas (SS, Med, Climate). Each of these is important, and contrary to your claims, each is being targeted-primarily by the DOGE team at the present. While I am sure that there are minor instances of fraud in each of these areas, the DOGE team is not really locating any. For SS they claim that people are on the books at 150 years of age, which has been explained ad-nauseum as a quirk in the antiquated SS computer system, but have provided no evidence that any of these ‘old-timers’ are still receiving checks. What they have done is drastically cut staffing, closed offices and made it more difficult for people (particularly those who are computer illiterate) to register for their benefits. These are problems that Elon and his boys are making for future retirees, though it is likely that most people already receiving benefits will continue to do so. As for medicare/medicaid fraud, well, we know that it does happen, since the Senator (who you proudly voted for as a Florida Republican), was leader of a company that was fined $1.7 Billion for fraud while he was in charge. However, the people best qualified to investigate fraud are not the DOGE boys, but rather the inspector generals in the government (you remember that group of individuals that were fired by the orange ass?) Additionally, the rolling back of Medicare negotiations with the Pharmaceutical companies needs to be investigated, was a great money-saving idea that Biden started, but Trump seems to have other ideas and sidelined that activity (wonder who is in his pocket for this one). And yes, there are medicaid cuts proposed in the current budget, cuts that will mostly affect the small hospitals located in rural (RED) areas of the country. The last item, Climate Change (read that EPA) is a real shitshow under the Trump regime. Rolling back pollution standards, laying off staff (including NOAA-guess Trump doesn’t want anyone to challenge him when he marks up the projected path of a hurricane with his black sharpie next time?) So you say that Democrats have nothing positive to offer? A huge positive for the country would be the impeachment (and conviction) of Trump, immediately followed by head ass-licker Vance. Solution for the debt problem-that is simple, reverse the 2017 tax cuts-they have done nothing for the GDP of the country (despite all the grandstanding by the Republican Buffoons that they would pay for themselves). Debt crisis over. Getting rid of Trump/Vance would put the US back on the road to being a respected nation (though I am not sure that Mike Johnson would be any better than Trump). We would not have any more silly pronouncements from the Oval Office that we are going to acquire Greenland, Panama Canal, or make Canada our 51st state, we would backtrack on the ridiculous tariffs that Trump has suggested, we would continue to aid Ukraine rather than give comfort to Russia, and we would stop the illegal deportation of migrants to an El Salvador jail before they have even had a court hearing. I know you are a bit slow on the uptake Larry, but your MAGA ship is listing badly and is about to capsize….
What really blows my mind is that Trump and his idiot band are trying to block illegal immigrants from PAYING into Social Security. Almost all of the immigrants that came in over the last few years did so to get work and pay taxes. Very few, if any, are able to collect benefits. Yet Trump and Co want to remove them, thus expanding the deficit. How STUPID can you be?
The level of lunacy in the regime is apparently boundless. On the migrant issue-Larry’s home state of florida has introduced legislation allowing children as young as 14 to start work, including overnight shifts, because migrants are too afraid to be out in the open, or have already left the country. All this in the name of making us safer-despite the fact that migrants have lower criminality than US citizens, and republicans failure to do anything other than offer “thoughts and prayers” after mass shootings.
It natural for the party not in the majority or the WH come out on the defensive and concentrate on issues with policies the majority wants that reverse programs former presidents put in place. Not to long ago Mr Horist’s articles primarily lampooned, to no avail, programs, policies, actions and anything else he dredged up. Conspiracy theories are Larry’s bread and butter campaigns
Whatever is good for the goose …. Larry. BTW your hair and whiskers are on fire, again. Why the Johnny one note anti-Democrat / Left tirade. Schumer isn’t saying attack, he raised critically important issues all Americans hear Elon and Donald speak menacing intentions towards.
In fact, Schumer could have added just about every move Trump has made to his list.
Trump brags about his presidency as unprecedented and greatest above all other former presidents. He included Lincoln, FDR, and even Washington on his list of also ran who don’t hold a candle to him.
Truth be told, Trump stacks up behind Nixon for incompetence.
Trump may have the record for Executive Orders signed in his first days in office. Then again, anyone would be able to sign papers by the score when they are ripped straight from the pages of Project 2025. That opus of rabid conservative propaganda is 1,000 pages long. Trump has lots of material for EO signatures.
You know how hot the fire would be in your hair had Biden flooded the country with frivolous retribution centered Executive Orders. Admit it, Trump is, once again, using the presidency for personal revenge on anything that crossed his path that he did not like or did not give him the honor he thought he deserved,
Schumer should have brought up the illegal and unconstitutional actions Trump has parlayed in 100’s of millions in USD for himself. Not for the so called GOP.
Finger pointing at the Democrats is just deflection. Your Republican Party has greater splintering going on under the table than your team wants to get out in public. Retribution fears and fear mongering across the party from MAGA to your ultra right Christian Nationalists is on going.
As Trump steers the ship of state closer to the rocks and before he land it on the rocks more of his mates will jump ship. Many will do the right thing and vote for what is best for democracy and the nation. Better a new party comes out of the remnants of the old party.
Midterm elections have a history that is to the advantage of the Democrats in 2026. Hold on tight for that, if strength hasn’t failed you yet.
Interesting take on the Democrats’ strategy. Do you think focusing mainly on attacking Trump could backfire by making voters more tired of negativity instead of seeing real solutions?
