Democrats fighting for … the status quo

Democrats lost the last election because the American people wanted change. Change in immigration. Change in crime. Change in woke policies. Change in the economy. Change in foreign policy. Change in the size and expense of government. Change in the power of the unelected and unaccountable bureaucracy. Change in the ever increasing National Debt. Change in endless wars. The people wanted change in just about everything government does.
Those sentiments were inherent in the polls that showed the vast majority of American believe the things were going in the wrong direction – a direction set by the left-wing policies of the those who were in charge. And that meant the Democratic Party – and some elements of the Washington establishment Republican Party. They wanted change so badly that they would elect a person who promised real change – a disrupter of the status quo – even a person with character flaws and a pugnacious personality.
President Trump offered that change in 2016 – and brought about some of it during his first four years as President. No sooner were the votes tabulated in 2016 than Democrats and their left-wing media cohorts launched the Trump resistance movement. They were fighting for the status quo.
When they did not kill Trump off politically with the 2020 elecction — and he talked about throwing his MAGA hat in the ring in 2024, the anti-Trump coalition when into high gear (actually went crazy) in their attempts to stop him with court cases and with absurdly extreme demonization and nutty end-of-the-word narratives.
Despite all the crap they threw at him – or because of it – Trump won a very impressive victory. And what are Democrats doing about it? Doubling down. They are peddling the same old failed arguments and defending he same old left-wing policies that made a Donald Trump possible – inevitable.
In terms of immigration, they are actively opposing efforts to curtail illegal border crossing and deportation – even the hardened criminals, gangbangers and drug cartellians. They are blocking efforts by Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest and deport those guilty of violent crimes and those ordered deported by immigration judges. They continue to defend sanctuary policies. Even in the fact of obvious success of Trump’s deportation orders, Democrats fight for the old status quo – open borders.
Democrats remain the party of radical left-wing woke policies. They claim it is a right for individuals to defy science and biology and change genders by self-proclamation – or have no gender at all. They claim that biological men – with the equipment to prove it –have a right to use exclusive women’s facilities as long as they self-identify as women. They even claim that such men can play in Women’s sports – outperforming the girls in every category. Despite the fact that more than 75 percent of Americans disagree, Democrats continue to defend their old policies — their status quo.
The American people have a common sense about children – those under the legal age of consent – especially the youngest of them. We do not allow them to sign contracts, drive cars, buy cigarettes, consume alcohol, get married, engage in sex, or be exposed to things seen as “adult” in nature. And where any exceptions can be made, it must be with the consent of parents.
Conversely, Democrats not only put government woke policies ahead of parental rights and responsibilities, but they also give the youngest children presumed rights over the responsibilities of parents. In the cockamamie world of liberal logic, parents can be held legally culpable if their child becomes a mass killer but are to have no influence – or information – if their child wants to self-identify as the opposite gender – and no authority if their child wants to undergo radical sex-change surgery.
Progressive policies work against the notion of “age appropriateness” for children. That is where we run into books inappropriate for elementary school libraries and curriculum – or Drag Queen shows with unavoidable sexual implications.
Progressives also support nonsensical pronoun rules imposed on children and adults. If you have noticed, many applications requiring biographical information now have provisions for a wide variety of self-described gender options. Trump has put an end to a lot of this cultural nonsense with his two-gender Executive Order and no men in women’s sports Executive Order. Democrats and those on the far left are pushing back, hoping to restore the old status quo.
Nowhere are Democrats and their left-wing allies more intent on protecting the status quo than in the role of the federal government – specifically the role played by the bureaucracy. Once described legitimately as modestly paid “public servants” the federal bureaucracy has grown into a massive fourth branch of government – and arguably the most powerful branch.
The power of the bureaucracy – and those on the left who enable it — are seen in the deficits and debt. Excessive spending hallmark of bureaucratic governance. It is the status quo that democrats are hellbent to defend at any cost.
The existential difference between conservative constitutional governance and progressive big government is who sets the rules. Is it we the people or an ensconced elitist class in Washington? In all issues, the status quo has been the devolution toward authoritarianism. And today’s democrats are fighting for that status quo. It would appear that the American people are opting to disrupt that status quo – and for all his faults and shortcomings, Trump has emerged as the disrupter of choice.
In November of 2024, Mother Jones ran an article with this headline: “Democrats Need to Stop Defending a Broken Democratic System.” It correctly observed that, “Too often, their (Democrats) message of preserving American democracy reinforced a failed status quo.
Enter the disrupter.
So, there ‘tis.
Larry, Your post rolls out the same old bullshit that Republicans have been blabbing about for years in order to get votes. It leaves out the part that Republican solution to these alleged problems are usually complete failures. Let’s outlaw abortion nationwide and leave it up to the states. You got that-now how many women are dying because they can’t get the care they need-because the laws your idiots have put in place cannot allow for the exceptions that you and others claim to want. Democrats policy much better-let the people most closely involved in the matter make the decisions. Your solution has saved few babies (if any) because previous law had not allowed for viable babies to be aborted except in the case of severe risk to the mother-a risk that is now overlooked and causing serious issues for the mothers. So let’s move on to the current cause celebre-trans people. Just how many people do you think this applies to? Do you really agree with hateful people like nancy mace who introduced legislation to prevent her colleague from using her restroom? And no, you are not correct when you say that science states there are only two sexes-in fact science states exactly the opposite. And most of the worry about trans people in sports is all for naught-this fall you could hardly turn on the news without hearing about San Jose state and how their trans player gave them a terrible unfair advantage. Something happened to all those cries about their advantage when they lost and were removed from the finals. Instead of mouthing off about the democrats because they want everyone to be treated fairly, perhaps you would be wise to start distancing yourself from the idiot in the white house and his ‘team’ of schlock’s. I think you are going to be hearing more from people who say they wanted change-but that meant lower prices, and not mass layoffs of government employees, deportation of illegals who have done nothing illegal other than being in the country without proper documentation and literally alienating our Allie’s and cozying up to dictators like Putin instead. This post is literally the Republican playbook-telling the rubes to ‘look over here’ so they won’t realize what a disaster is really taking place in DC…
+1 Mike F.
There are so many judgements, so few facts, it’s just the same boring stuff I have seen from hard right conservatives since the 70’s. Cut everything except defense, return it to the States or privatize, disassemble, destroy, but don’t make better. I agree people wanted change and agree that both sides did not like where we are and where we are going. That’s about it for this piece as the rest is bullshit.
As for Democrats fighting for the status quo, based on the final vote, I would say APPARENTLY NOT. It seems Democrats voted for change. As for Harris fighting for the status quo, well, she let herself fall into that trap as she failed to straddle Biden policies and what she would change.
Trump was the status quo from 2017 to 2020. He failed to change the country, to unify the country, and to profit the country while over a million of us began to die on his watch as he blamed others for his failed covid response. So we voted for Trump change, we liked it, then it changed, and we didn’t like it so we voted for Biden change, we liked it, then it changed, then we didn’t, so we voted for Trump change, again. Based on our record, not 100% sure it’s all Trump OR Biden; it may be us.
As for Harris running on the status quo, yup, and a mistake apparently to get caught in that. Like I said long before the election, I’m was getting that Mondale feeling all over again….. joy, joy, joy, does not win elections. She fucked up, basked in her kumbaya moment of joy, and now is crying in her beer.
And now you own it all but only the Executive Branch is working…. Congress has taken leave of it’s senses, decided not to report to work, while the Judiciary is totally corrupt, according to the Executive Branch. So you own it all, only have one branch working, and it’s the ball is in your court, totally. So what’s the point of beating up on Biden and Harris still? Are you doing that bad that you have to point out the mistakes of the past as your crutch?
Why Horist feels the need to curb-stomp the downed-dog is beyond me. He’s got this win-lose mantra that means someone must feel bad for him to feel good. He can only win if THEY lose. His win-lose mentality coupled with his perverse desire for payback, getting even, and seemingly enjoying the pain of others he disagrees with, is not going to unify us or move us forward in a productive fashion. If we deem half the country as morons, we will never move ahead. His metric of success is the measure of how bad the other guy feels. Combined with his prophetical pronouncements provided without factual support, just a small smattering of actual, yet arguable, facts, he whips up a fantastical feast of fraud to tune you up. As in, if you already believe, then he’s talking to you and you are cheering. If not, no way in hell is this bullshit going to move you. I am just not sure what his point is. His side won, bigtime, mandate, he tells you all the time. MANDATE THIS MOTHER FUCKER: actually, quit the lip service and lies and do something. Try transparency to begin with and quit hiding the truth. How many people deported? How many fired? Which ones? How much do eggs cost? Zelensky a dictator but demure on Putin? Why hold back CDC emergency notifications, reports, and vaccine developments? If you are stopping things, cannot you tell us?
Frank Stetson. .. I thought it was time to go back to the old name — the one you admitted you gave up for a kinder persona with less personal insults. I see the old Frank is back. Actually, never left…. just one AKA after another. Differences with no distinctions. Same old obsession, same old insults. Same old ignorance. LOL
The author states: “President Trump offered that change in 2016 – and brought about some of it during his first four years as President.” Is that Horist saying Trump 1 was a loser. Only achieved “some of it?” And did it in such a way that Biden could destroy it all in four years? Was it that weak a fix? Is Biden that much better that he could destroy what Trump built that fast?
Ask yourself: Democrats have run the country for about 17 Presidents, and Republicans for about 19 Presidents and, so far, neither side has destroyed the nation as in I think we are still here, still standing, still best in the world in many things. Both sides have offered change more often than the status quo. Many of the things we tussle about we have tussled about since the founding. And Democrats have provided slightly more profit to the country, slightly less deficit, slightly less unemployment, so how can either side say the other is complete shit? I give Republicans credit for galvanizing the country under Reagan and Bush II, for helping Clinton fix welfare with time limits and exclusions, and, of course, tearing down that wall even at Trump wants to erect a few more.
I just don’t see the value in beating a dead Horist instead of focusing on today’s problems and fixing them in as much of a win-win fashion as imaginable. Perhaps better to move on and tell us about all those Trumpian initiatives and what they will do for us. Uh oh, I forgot. You don’t know because there is no plan beyond Project 2025 and some rally bullet points like President Mush’s lifting of the chainsaw as emulation of Trump policies to heal the nation and move us forward. Remember, there are real people he’s chain sawing there. We will just hack away some workers and all will be well. It’s not meritocracy, it’s Musholigarchy. We will sue the press and deny press access to the government because we believe in free speech. We will force women to have babies because we believe in State’s rights and stand against human bondage. Look at the media symbols they project to proclaim their brand: the Trump fist, the Mush NAZI salute, the chainsaw flip-off, the creation and pardoning of Dark MAGA, the cabinet of incompetents, it’s all part of the Hitler-like authoritarian playbook to use the media and symbols to fake you into believing our world is shit, Trumusk is our only savior, and if they slap “brand new MAGA on it, it’s better. And watch the mob cheer as he symbolically bullies countries and people on stage for approval by the mob. Its’ like the dark version of “joy, joy, joy,” which I hope will meet the same ends. It’s the version where someone must lose for someone to win. It’s Larry’s way.
And yes, dear Larry, we know that you think all Democrats bad, all bad things are Democratic. You have been repeating that since the 70’s, we get it. But why can’t you attract blacks to Red areas where there is no racism, everyone gets the same chance, the same level of pay, and it’s all racial milk and honey? You’ve had 50 years of telling them we suck; how come they have not listened to you? Now tell us something new. And tell us how Republicans lost control of all those cities if their way is the better way?
I think one major advantage for the people in this is that these folks in the current administration are stupid and incompetent. They see business and government as one. They run tight-knit family-like businesses with authoritarian rule and little outside controls. As Tesla, which faces a wider customer audience than his other ventures, fails, Musk shows his patriotic hand by illegally attempted to bump a $2B signed deal with Verizon to his fledgling Starlink. Good luck, you be messing with your own weight class now Elon. Frankly, and I am Frank, Team Trumush could screw up a wet dream, and probably have. I mean, they scream meritocracy, but then fire all probationary workers — the good, the bad, and the ugly. That’s not on merit. They fire all appointees, some even appointed by Trump 1. That’s not on merit. I have been in many a downsizing, seen many a high-level starfucker tell us “I have the way forward and it’s radical…..think out of the box!” I once saw an entire division go away for a one-week “teambuilding” junket, millions spent, to come home, be fired, and then told they could be reapply and be rehired for any job, except 20% of the jobs gone. There goes teambuilding right out the window as the catfight began. I had the best job in the division; someone came to me and whispered: “if you try to get your job back, you will fail, he’s the VP’s protégé, try door number two…..” Yeah, fair and balanced too. I took job two, failed it on the business case, their guy fucked up job 1 and I got it back a year later…. Good plan? Once I went to breakfast, skip-level, with my VP. When we got back to the office, he was not my VP. I made a funny burn-your-bridges joke and a week later, he was my VP again. Joke was on me. Bottom line: because of actions like this, our type-a people just left. It’s a big corporation, and plenty of good divisions to go to OR the “outside world.” We ended up with a talent vacuum and started hiring from the outside. If that was the plan, this was an ass-backwards way of getting there. And a few VPs hit the skids for trying this crap along the way. Trumpmush Co is not just reducing government size, they are hallowing it out and that will take a fuck of a lot longer to build back better than just hiring a few brain-replacements. They are not firing based on talent or needs, they are firing anyone they can, even if the lawsuits will fly. As the expense of stupid firings hit the books, combined with the extreme deportation costs they are racking up for PR, and they realize they fired the good, kept the bad, and are hiring the ugly incompetent, and continue to rack up the failures of running a smaller, but hollowed out government become visible, combined with his economic failures, America will call for change again.
TWO YEARS.
