Violent Mob of Anti-ICE Protesters Try to Silence Fox News Reporter in LA
A deeply disturbing video emerged over the weekend that shows a mob of masked anti-ICE agitators wildly harassing a Fox TV reporter and trying to cut equipment cables as the local news crew attempting to cover rowdy protests in Los Angeles.
The menacing mob is seen encircling the female Fox 11 news reporter as she tries to do her job behind police barricades while some rabble rousers intimidate the crew filming the chaos and mistake the team from the local “Fox” affiliate for the Fox News Channel.
Some protesters appeared to attempt to cut camera wires and damaging equipment, in attempt to stop her report. At least 10 police officers equipped with BB guns, helmets, and batons are visible in the video as the reporter stood back. Other protesters were seen shoving their cell phone cameras into her face.
“Why does Fox News get special access?” one agitator is heard yelling, while others spew vulgarities.
In another clip, the reporter attempts to speak with her cameraman as the crowd yells, “Get the f–k out of here.”
LA has seen thousands of protesters gather in the downtown area. At one point, a protester yelled, “Why are they allowed to go back and forth?” as the reporter crossed the picket line. Someone then used a sharp object to cut a camera cable, the video shows.
Despite being surrounded, the team of two appeared calm and did not engage with the crowd.
The attack on the Fox reporter came a day after Los Angeles police arrested multiple violent agitators after issuing dispersal orders as protests erupted across the city Friday evening.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said during a news conference Friday evening that five arrests had been made for failure to disperse. LAPD did not immediately confirm how many individuals had been arrested.
LAPD said one person was arrested after allegedly using a slingshot to fire hard metal objects at officers.
The unrest came as cities across the country took part in “ICE Out Everywhere” protests in the wake of the shooting deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good involving federal agents in Minneapolis.
LAPD issued a dispersal order at around 5:45 p.m. local time, ordering all protesters in the area of Alameda Street between Union Station and First Street to leave or face arrest.
Police also placed the entire city of Los Angeles on tactical alert due to violent agitators on Alameda between Temple and Aliso streets.
While some protesters dispersed, others remained and continued to throw bottles and rocks at officers, according to the LAPD.
In addition, the department said that federal authorities were being hit with “debris, bottles and other objects,” resulting in authorities declaring an unlawful assembly at the detention center.
