Terrorist Attack in NYC Injures 4, Terrorist in Custody

The New York Police have a suspect in custody after a bomb exploded under the New York Port Authority, injuring the terrorist and 3 others. None of the injuries was life threatening. The man had the explosive strapped to his body, and he had burns to his hands and abdomen. The others injured were suffering from ringing in the ears and headaches.

The police have identified the man as Akayed Ullah, a 27-year-old, who lived in Brooklyn. He is possible of Bangladesh origin.

The attack happened in an underground passageway, under 42nd street between 7th and 8th avenues (near Times Square). The passageway was crowded and filled with black smoke from the explosion.

Officials said that he was inspired by the Islamic State, but they had not found any direct connection to them yet.

It is not clear at this time if the bomb was intended to go off at this point or was accidentally discharged prematurely.
