Select Committee grandstanding continues with Trump Subpoena

While there was nothing of substance – having legal implications – in the latest so-called “hearing” of the January 6th Select Committee, two events resulted in the most coverage.  They are the video taken and produced by House Speaker Pelosi’s daughter and the subpoena of President Trump.  I dealt with the video in a previous commentary, so what about the subpoena?

It was nothing more than a political stunt designed to keep the Trump issue before the public in advance of the midterm elections.  That is because the closest thing to certainty is that Trump will never be COMPELLED to testify before the Select Committee.  He may volunteer if the Committee agrees to his terms, but I do not think he is sincere – or that they will agree.

The Committee (Congress) does not have the power to compel Trump.  They can only take the next step and send a referral over to the Department of Justice – asking Attorney General Merrick Garland to file contempt of Congress charges against Trump.  It is questionable whether the Committee will go that far – but if they do, it is unlikely that Garland will press the charges.

Even if both the Committee and Garland were hell-bent on aggressively pursuing the contempt of Congress case, it would be months and months before the case was decided – maybe even more than a year.

Pelosi and the members of her kangaroo Select Committee know all that.  They know the subpoena will never bring Trump before the Committee.  So why bother?  It is just a cheap political stunt by a Committee that has been engaged in a 10-month political stunt.

Finally, Pelosi and the members of the Committee are sufficiently savvy to know that it is very very likely that Republicans will be in charge of the House in January.  That means the quashing of the subpoena – and the merciful end of the Select Committee.

So, there ‘tis.

I sincerely do hope Trump has to testify. In doing so, he will blast out a few truths of which will embarrass the entire criminals in the committee ending with most of them going to prison themselves. Oh, I do so want this to happen. They are going to find out that Trump is the legal President of the United States of America.

I absolutely agree with you! Trump is just stupid enough to think he can convince the Jan 6th Committee that he did nothing wrong. Every time he speaks publicly, he incriminates himself. And he constantly lies, so he will commit perjury as well. As soon as he does, they will refer him to the Justice Department for prosecution, which will take place regardless of who wins the midterms.

And if he doesn’t testify, the Committee will still refer him to the DOJ for prosecution. It’s just one of many charges in the queue. Trump loses, either way. And the current Justice Department has at least 2 more years left in it, more than enough time.

Trump was at the center of the conspiracy to prevent the lawful transfer of power to the duly elected President. Why shouldn’t he be subpoenaed? Given the amount of damning testimony, it’s clear it wasn’t just a political stunt by the Committee. Trump was driving everyone around him to find a way to keep himself in office, legal or not. He called SOS’s. He created fake electors. He spent months before and after the election creating doubt about the results. After the election, he incited a riot, with the sole purpose of disrupting the count. It was clearly a coup attempt, and it should be prosecuted so it doesn’t happen again.

Trump is a traitor, and if you watched even 10 minutes of the televised hearings, you’d know that. But you’re part of the MAGA cult, and admitting the truth would challenge your worldview too much. Cognitive dissonance is a bitch.

      • Joe Gilbertson

Trump did nothing wrong. Watch the videos, there was no riot.

The Democrats have shown they can refer anyone to the DOJ, they can impeach anyone they like, without evidence, and generally plot against their political opponents using government institutions and our tax dollars. And the liberal media goes along with the show.

But I already know your response. You believe the liberal media rather than trust your own eyes. You won’t even fight against your own leash and blinders.

        • Mike

Joe, I suggest you run (don’t walk) to your preferred ophthalmologist, because you obviously have a severe case of cataracts (I certainly hope they aren’t allowing you to keep your driver’s license..) It is possible that whether there was an “insurrection” can be argued (I would say yes, as the rioters were attempting to stop due process in the country), however there is absolutely no question that the actions in the Capitol were a riot. You are the one who is listening to your conservative media rather than trusting your eyes. And as far as “Trump did nothing wrong”, what a crock of shit! He stirred people up, he brought them to DC on Jan 6, and he encouraged them to go to the Capitol, where much damage was done, and people ended up dead, all because his little boy ego couldn’t admit that “he lost”. If you believe otherwise, you truly are one of the dumbest people around (and blind to boot)….

          • Joseph S. Bruder

Mike, I agree with you, but besides Trump’s ego, he saw that his grift of federal dollars was ending and he might get prosecuted. That was certainly valid for him to worry about, as the chickens are coming home to roost now. The other thing on his mind was that he had already laid the groundwork for taking complete control of the government. This does go back to his ego – he LOVED dictators like Putin and Kim, and wanted to be like them and even worse. He was stacking the SCOTUS with his own pics, endorsing SOS candidates around the country, getting high-level military on his side, pushing out career diplomats and putting in his own people, even installing MAGAs in low-level federal offices. Republicans in Congress followed his every whim, because he could destroy them. If Trump had gotten elected again, he would have created a second Soviet Union.

        • frank stetson

Can Joe please explain that if there was no insurrection, if thousands had not breached the Capitol, desecrated the center of our government, ransacked the place, then how did the Democrats get all those folks to plead guilty? The ones pleading guilty to seditious conspiracy are especially good sports. That speaks volumes as to has the blinders on, who is the sheeple following his one, true, orange-haired King. The man who went beyond the law to remain in power against the wishes of the majority of voting Americans.

Can Joe also explain why Donald J. Trump, responsible for the defense of the Nation, sat for hours watching the riot on TV, sat and did nothing. No calls to DOD, National Guard, police, whatever to stop the madness. He just tossed burgers at the wall, called Pence a pussy, and told McCarthy that he guessed the rioters were more upset about the election than Kevin was. Yes, it is reported that the word “rioters” was used. I guess Kevin is a Democrat shill too. Our reach into your world is incredible. You can’t trust anyone anymore. Be afraid, be very afraid. Even your plan to garner new voters from the millions of unloved, unwanted, unsupported, abused, abortion-ban-babies won’t work.

When it comes to corruption, Trump rules. Pence wouldn’t even get in his escape vehicle with Trump’s SS who later magically deleted all electronic messages dealing with 1/6. Trump’s DOJ went after his opponents in great numbers, used the IRS to get others, and completed politicized even the CDC to make his dismal covid response look better. He also charged his SS troops $1,200 a night while stupid-son Eric said it was $50 and his Dad took the loss… They spent over a quarter million on golf carts. This is grifting at the nuts n bolts level, the man stealing whatever he could, whatever was not nailed down, just like the classified documents he slammed into 35 boxes just before being booted from the White House.

There is plenty of evidence in the record for either impeachment; he was impeached twice, it’s just was not enough for some to convict. Mueller said as much, he did not exonerate, Barr did and Mueller disagreed with that.

Testify? There is no way this man can go under oath and utter anything beyond his guilt with a fifth plea like he did before. No way. He’s just not as good as say, a Bill Clinton, who voluntarily went under oath. He just does not have the balls or the brains to pull that one off. He may “volunteer” testimony, not under oath, with stipulations and caveats. It’s a toss up whether that will fly with the Committee. But I doubt it. He can not go toe to toe with Liz. Like Pelosi, she will skewer him hoisting him high on his on petard. No, he will probably say “can’t wait,” and then lodge stupid delay after delay coming up with really strange justifications why he no can speak at this time in this place to these people: Americans. He will be a pussy and demur.

Side story: Where’s John Durham? The man is 0 for two in court, enters the prosecutor hall of fame as Wrong Way Durham. Federal Prosecutors have an 80% conviction rate, Durham has 0. How much money did Republicans waste this time? Six million and counting…..

          • Joe Gilbertson

But none of that happened. The people were let in by the Capitol Police, they were rambunctious but not violent. The violence was one stupid cop who shot somebody. Compared to your average rock concert this was church choir.

How does the FBI get people to plead guilty? When you have that kind of political corruption in the FBI it goes like this: Either you plead guilty and get a small fine and 30 days in jail or even a suspended sentence, or we will pile on 32 made up charges and you will spend millions in legal bills defending yourself and risk 15 years in jail.

Frank, don’t pretend that you don’t know this stuff. You are drunk but not stupid.

          • Frank stetson

Do you know how many years they racked up? Do you know how many years the top count is at the current time. And that record will be broken shortly. Do you know how many guns they found in Virginia waiting for martial law to be enacted? Do you remember the bombs placed around DC?

Where are the nail Trump on this is an open question, thus far is been pretty good and getting other people to take the fall, like his faithful following on January 6. That was the real con.

But they say this is a rock concert gone bad it’s just fucking funny. You apparently are watching the wrong tapes. Perhaps you should change from the cartoon channel.

Rock concert? Altamont maybe. Complete with Trump’s version of the Hell’s Angels.

Capital police let them in? Was that the tape where the guys head was in a vice?

You keep calling me a drunk. Please stop the personal attacks. I have told you I do not drink. Please stop your attacks.

      • debbie

        definition of a cult)-strong devotion to a person,or a group of persons showing devotion , first of all ,you dont know me ,yet you call me a cult member? because I dont agree with your narrative? I will tell you this ,I am a Christian and I go to church I only worship GOD and FAMILY If you want to call me a cult member thats your choice ,the truth is you dont know who I voted for , but as long as you are putting a label on me,how about I give you one.?monomania ;

        • ben is back

really? you know that computers nowadays have spell and grammar checks? Even Russians do better than this. maybe the internet is slow in your trailer park.

      • Gina

You have to be in denial. Biden has done worst. He’s the real traitor. The witch hunts and Jan 6 committee is nothing but a sham to keep Trump out of office. The left is so scared of him because He knows a lot about the corruption that’s going on

        • ben is back

Denial is a river in Egypt.

Yes, the January 6th Select Committee will keep Trump from office, but that’s not why they are doing it.

They don’t want 1/6 to happen again.

A judge just waived Trump’s attorney/client privilege based on Trump fraud over his 2020 election lies. A very rare occurrence to have that privilege REVOKED. Soon it will become public knowledge what Trump and Eastman were cooking up and what they knew about election fraud BEFORE the election even

It will be wild. Buy your burgers today, you gonna wanna be tossin some at the wall.

          • Jim

            Don’t get uppity boy

        • Joseph S. Bruder

Gina, just what is it you think Biden has done? Has he grifted millions of dollars by going golfing 3 days a week at his own golf course and overcharging the Secret Service for parking, golf carts, and rooms? Has he invited the Russians into the oval office or publicly revealed sensitive information about agents in other countries? Has he made fun of the handicapped, or publicly talked about grabbing pussy, or walked into the girl’s dressing room at a fashion show? As far as I know, Biden doesn’t have a single rape allegation against him, compared to Trump’s 20 or 30.

Has Biden tried to blackmail any leaders of foreign countries? Cozied up to the Putin and Orban and Kim and other dictators around the world while snubbing NATO allies? Has Biden called Mexicans criminals and rapists, or Muslims terrorists, or repeated conspiracy theories about China and COVID? Told 20-30 lies a day? Has he entered into a conspiracy to start an insurrection so he can remain in power? Has he been impeached (twice), or done anything worthy of impeachment? Has he taken classified information out of the Capitol and hidden it in his desk drawer and storage closets within arms length of his club’s swimming pool?

You may not like Biden’s policies (if you even have any idea what they are), but he is doing his best to implement them, especially given that the Republican Congress votes in lockstep against Democrats, regardless of whether they think the legislation is good or bad, just to make the administration look bad. To me, it’s the Republicans that look bad.

But you apparently have a different opionion on Biden. Please, tell me what you think he’s done that deserves any punishment whatsoever.

          • larry Horist

Joseph S Bruder … Just a quick answer. I would say that the Biden family has done their share of grifter in Ukraine, Russian and China. Hundreds of millions of dollars worth. Seems you missed the rape accusation against Biden. Didn’t Biden blackmail Ukraine to drop the investigations of Burisma — Hunter Bidens influence peddling partner? If you want to make accusations against Trump … okay, But to be so completely ignorant or dishonest about similar accusations against Biden is disingenuous.

  2. Frank stetdon

Biden, as in Joe Biden, agreed with many others in the US government to withhold funding so that a corrupt prosecutor would be fired. This was not the current Ukraine government. There is no proof that he did this on behalf of her son, nor on behalf of her Burisma which reportedly did not benefit from Biden‘s actions. You nay be right, but you have a ways to go to find smoke here much less fire.

You keep talking about the Biden family grifting because you need to add Hunter in in order to damage Jor. In other words, to get to Joe you are attack his kids, Hunter being an easy target. But you can’t tie Joe into that…..yet.

Hunter grifted Ukraine and China for millions. Jared Kushner, husband of Ivanka Trump, daughter of Donald Trump, just gifted 2 billion from the Saudi prince. The Saudi prince gave it to Jared for his new investment firm. Jared’s only investment experience is in real estate in New York City. Now that’s some grifting based on the family name of Trump. Don’s other kids, responsible for running his company while he was president, have drifted the US taxpayer for hundreds of millions of dollars and overcharging for services. His kids have also in grifted US taxpayers by tax evasion through over valuing and undervaluing different properties in order to secure loans. Just the tip of the iceberg to be uncovered in pending cases in New York. Unlike Joe Biden were no legal actions being taken at the current time, there is plenty of grifting legal action being taken against Trump and his kids.

    • Joe Gilbertson

Frank, please. He fired the investigator who was investigating his son. And then he bragged about it.

Unlike Hunter Biden, the Trumps are ACTUAL business people who have billions of dollars and know how to make more.

      • frank stetson

Yes, the investigator that many governments found lacking, maybe corrupt, said he was investigating Hunter. That’s a lock. Always believe the fired guy’s comments about the firing guy. But Ukrainian prosecutors could not collaborate your fantasy. “An audit of thousands of old case files by Ukrainian prosecutors found no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of Hunter Biden, the former prosecutor general, who had launched the audit, told Reuters.” https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-impeachment-ukraine/ukraine-found-no-evidence-against-hunter-biden-in-case-audit-former-top-prosecutor-idUSKBN23B2RB

Can’t wait to see the bragging lie. Same source?

Tis amazing how much misinformation you espouse.

Hunter is a cad, not so for Joe the Dad.

Yes, the Trump’s have made billions which is less money than if they let Grandad’s fortune ride the market or maybe even an interest bearing CD…… Most billionaires laugh at them….. Along the way, paid off fraud cases, grifted, got fake loans based on phony valuations, tax fraud is pending, with a jailed counsel, jailed CFO, and more to come. Even I could make money IF I could cheat like this.

  3. frank stetson

Larry is a clever fellow, note how he uses “the Biden family” grifters to smear all Bidens when all he has is Hunter. Did he mean our war hero Bronze Star holder Beau too? Fact is Hunter grifted millions based on family name and dubious work output.

Joe Biden withheld $1B from Ukraine to help Burisma and Hunter is a false claim, disproven so far, by a Republican Congressional investigation. Joe withheld this money in agreement with many across the US government. Ukraine was corrupt. We, and the EU, were pushing them to clean it up and this prosecutor was not prosecuting. Senate Republicans in Congress cleared Joe, but a Republican in Boca Raton didn’t get the message. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/10/21/fact-check-joe-biden-leveraged-ukraine-aid-oust-corrupt-prosecutor/5991434002/

    BUSTED

Meanwhile, Trump’s son in law gets $2B from the murderous Saudi Prince for his brand new investment firm to invest in Israel. Jared has never worked investment management outside of NY real estate. The Prince’s advisor’s reported “those objections included: “the inexperience of the Affinity Fund management”; the possibility that the kingdom would be responsible for “the bulk of the investment and risk”; due diligence on the fledgling firm’s operations that found them “unsatisfactory in all aspects”; a proposed asset management fee that “seems excessive”; and “public relations risks” from Mr. Kushner’s prior role as a senior adviser to his father-in-law, former President Donald J. Trump, according to minutes of the panel’s meeting last June 30.” This is just after Donald J. Trump loaded 35 boxes with classified documents. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/10/us/jared-kushner-saudi-investment-fund.html

Meanwhile, Trump’s kids who ran his company while he was the Golfing President are in court fighting tax fraud over fake property valuations in the millions. This case continues and looks very promising for the prosecutors. While managing Trumpco, the kids grifted hundreds of millions from taxpayers from overcharging at Trump resorts where the President forced Government employees to stay. Larry should investigate these kids, their Dad, for incredible grifting.

    • larry Horist

frank Stetson … Biden grifter family as in Hunter … brother Frank and “the Big Guy.” I cannot comment further because I have no time to read your long tedious and bogus claims and dubious sources. I see no value in engaging you in your obsession obstinacy..

      • larry Horist

Frank Stetson … Who the “big guy” is fairly well known … and it has been shown that Biden lied when he said he knew nothing of his son’s shady business dealing. Daddy was promoting them and more and more evidence shows that he knew more than he admitted. And as far as not engaging point-by-point with all your nonsense .. of course we all know why. I explained that. You are not worth the effort based on the crap you write. i would have no time for commentaries if I were to make you my obsession as you have made me yours. I am flattered, but not interested.

  4. Frank stetson

Name-calling will be your epitaph. And big words do not make it more impressive.

Senate Republicans cleared them in this case. Joe Biden, a.k.a. the guy your name the big guy, was not connected. I’ve listen to my sources above which you ignore, a word encompassed by the word ignorance.

Of course you can’t comment. And we all know why.

    Have a nice day.

    BUSTED.

The die is cast. IMO, Trump will bloviate about how he’s ready to face the music and go under oath and deposition but his actions will be to delay with numerous challenges. He will say “but it is all legal.” The goal will be to delay till January, as the new house Republicans probably take over, they will close down the committee and invalidate the subpoena.

He is too much of a pussy to go under oath and speak the truth to the American people. He cannot face Liz Cheney face-to-face.

    • Burt

The only pussy is under your nose Lizard Cheney is a lying cunt.
