Reporter Believes Paris Agreement will Stop Hurricanes

Hurricane Matthew swept away more than 1,000 lives as it traveled from the Caribbean all the way up to North Carolina last week. 

In the wake of the storm, and just a few weeks before the Paris Agreement is scheduled to go into effect, NBC reporter Ron Allen suggests that hurricanes may be a thing of the past if we follow the rules outlined in the Paris Agreement:

“Now, as a practical matter, it’s very interesting that this is happening on a day when there’s a hurricane bearing down on the United States and in the Caribbean because these severe storms, beach erosions, intense weather episodes that we’ve had are perhaps the most practical example of what the president was talking about as the threat that the planet faces and this is what this whole climate agreement signed by 190 nations and now ratified by 60 or so is designed to stop.”

The Paris Agreement 

Nearly 200 representatives met in Nov-Dec 2015 to discuss how the world plans to move forward in regards to global warming and climate change. The multinational summit (AKA “COP21”) resulted in the formation of the controversial “Paris Agreement” – a global agreement that aims to reduce emissions and therefore stall global warming. 

Summit attendees agreed that the treaty would go into effect only when ratified by 55 countries that together represent 55% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

That goal was reached on October 5th, 2016, and so far 77 of the 197 parties to sign the document have moved forward with ratification. The Paris Agreement will enter into force on November 4th, 2016. 

Obama’s Greatest Legacy 

President Obama delivered a speech in the White House Rose Garden last Thursday, reminding us that his greatest legacy is supporting a “turning point for our planet” by signing the Paris Agreement. 

If the Paris Agreement goes exactly as planned, will we see more hurricanes? Of course we will. “Besides, there’s no way Obama, Kerry, Clinton, and Sanders want to get rid of the climate change scare – what else would they blame for terrorism?” writes Michelle Malkin. 

Besides, last time I checked, hurricanes have always existed and are not a result of mankind’s alleged endeavors to heat up the planet.
