It is a FACT. The left is responsible for most political violence … period
(This is a very long commentary, but this issue cannot be covered in a headline and a few short words. That is because my explanation runs contrary to the widely held misconceptions and false narratives that most political violence comes from the right. I beg to differ.)
I have written in the past about the radical left being responsible for most of the political violence throughout American history. I wrote that based on experience and knowledge of history—the facts.
Of course, those on the left say otherwise. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough recently declared that “every study shows that most political violence comes from the right.” As untrue as it is, that has been the left’s political mantra in recent years – regurgitated without investigation by the crony news media. It is just another false narrative of the kind Democrats engage in as a matter of strategy. (Remember the false Russian collusion narrative? The false Hunter Biden laptop narrative? The fascist dictator narrative?)
To prove his point, Scarborough offered up a cherry-picked list of half dozen recent incidents of political violence – leaning heavily on right-wing violence. It was a pathetic anecdotal list proving nothing. And he is not alone in spreading such misleading disinformation.
Recently, CNN’s Michael Smerconish – who I greatly admire — supported the pox on both houses approach with his own short list of left and right-wing violence – six on each side. That is about as informative of only counting murders that happen on Mondays.
There is a much bigger picture, and it does settle the question of which side of the philosophical or partisan divide is responsible for the most violence — and it is not even close. It is the big picture that the left refuses to see – or at least allow us to see.
We have to understand that the debate on political violence is skewed by the fact that the left simply does not include every instance of political violence in the count. In fact, they simply ignore the vast majority of political violence. And unfortunately, even the more objective, albeit gullible, observers accept those gross omissions.
Political violence is not new to the American landscape. There have been so many acts of political violence in American history that there is not enough space to list them in this commentary.
The most significant omission from the list of political violent events are all those riots attributed to racial issues or simply described as civil. In fact, virtually every race riot in my lifetime (think the last days of President Roosevelt) rises from the political left. Those folks looting, burning, destroying, vandalizing, injuring and even killing – and those who aided and abetted them — were not the local conservative Republican folks. And to suggest that those thousands of violent riots are not political in nature is to deny the existence of the sun.
From labor riots in the early 20th century to the unrest following the death of George Floyd, the United States has endured waves of destruction tied to ideological fervor. While both the left and right have committed acts of violence, the full historical and contemporary record shows that the preponderance of political violence has come from the left by far—a fact often downplayed or reframed by Democrats, the news media and academic institutions that lean left themselves.
The History of Political Violence in America
For the purposes of this commentary, we are focusing on a partial but representative list of major political violence since 1960. It is by far not a complete list. It does not cover the innumerable individual and unreported acts of low-level political violence– such as political headquarters vandalism or non-deadly assaults on local political figures. Also, many of the individual listings I provide below cover simultaneous riots in scores or even hundreds of cities.
It is also noteworthy that most of the right-wing political violence is committed by nutcase lone wolfs. Whereas left-wing violence tends to involve organizations and massive numbers of participants. Left-wing violence tends to be large scale — takin more lives, causing more injuries, destroying and damaged more property, and costing far more taxpayer and private money.
Here is a list of many of the major acts of political violence in the past 65 years. It clearly shows the propensity of left-wing issues and players to motivate violence.

(Even as I am writing this, there have been two more news reports of violent attacks on ICE agents. And a group protesting Jimmy Kimmel’s indefinite leave of absence got into a tussle with police. This left-wing violence seems to be occurring on a daily basis. Out of fairness, I looked for right-wing violence, None were reported anywhere.)
Comparative Reactions
One of the notable distinctions between the left and the right is how they react when displeased by political policies and events. The left takes to the streets en masse. Even so-called peaceful demonstrations too often break the law by blocking streets or access to businesses. They attack police officers with rocks, cans, and even urine. All illegal and not protected by the Constitution. And largely ignored – or excused – by leaders on the left.
To understand the difference, one only needs to look at the activities of Antifa and Black Lives Matter – which openly call for and engage in violence. Compare that to the Tea Party movement in which the right to protest was exercised without violence, damage or arrests.
When George Floyd was murdered by police, the left erupted in acts of major – even deadly –violence across the nation. When Charlie Kirk was assassinated, there was an outburst of peaceful prayer vigils across the country – and around the world. Ironically, those were violently attacked by left-wingers.
Those on the left talk a lot about right-wing violence and terrorism – and even predict it. You may recall how the left predicted an outbreak of violence on the first anniversary of the January 6 Capitol Hill riot. (Pelosi ordered fencing to be erected and called in the National Guard for security. All for those 200 peaceful protesters who showed up to hear speeches.) Or how right-wing terrorists would bring havoc to cities across America. Or how right-wingers would attack the polling places on election day 2024. (In Arizona, the Chicken Littles even put up barriers and in one case positioned snipers on the roof.) None of that happened.
In the aftermath of the Kirk murder, thousands of hateful left-wingers organically rose to destroy, burn or remove impromptu memorials – resulting in hundreds of arrests. It is the political DNA of the left to engage in street violence over every perceived grievance – weather organized or lone wolves. In the past, I have labeled them the “perma-pissed”. Their first impulse is to take to the streets – with some level of violence.
A Matter of Sanctioning
This knee-jerk response may be due to the fact that the left-wing establishment condones – and even supports political violence – both by lack of condemnation and in some cases outright encouragement. We see this in the left-wing Democrat mayors who order the police to stand down in the face of rioting or order the National Guard to stay away. We see it in the prosecutors who refuse to prosecute rioters. In one of the most outrageous examples was Vice President Harris actually raised baoil money for rioters. It is part of the left’s historic soft on criminals/hard on victims policies.
Summary
Political violence is corrosive to democracy, no matter who commits it. But ignoring or excusing violence from one side while dishonesty vilifying the other is intellectually dishonest and socially dangerous. The left must take ownership for its legacy of violence and take responsibility for the harm it has caused.
Until that happens – and apparently it will not happen soon — calls for unity and healing will ring hollow. Accountability must be universal, not selective. And the truth must be told—even when it’s inconvenient.

Larry-Lots of incidents here, but you basically ignored all incidents of white on black violence, much of which happened in the 60’s and before, but a more recent incident would be the Dylan Roof church shooting. However, the big thing you ignored was the report that showed that far right attacks far outpaced those on the left, which was removed from the DOJ website by the current regime. So you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble (and been accurate for once) and just referenced that report that didn’t cherry-pick their data as you did. But that wouldn’t have stirred up your dozens of readers/supporters like you wanted would it? Just more bullshit from the ‘Oracle’ of Boca in the windbag post….

The Dylan Roof case is in my compilation as a right wing incident. If you go back before the 1960, virtually all the racist incidents were the product of the Democrat Party’s control of the south an the major cities. Republicans were fighting against it.–from the abolitionist movement to the passage of the mid-century civil rights laws that had overwhelming GOP support. So what is your point?
My point Larry is that you ignored a government report (which the current regime has cleverly taken offline) which said exactly the opposite from what you state. You have cherry picked some incidents and jumped to the conclusion (surprise) that the left has been responsible for most violence. I commend the author for taking on such a complex topic. Too bad discussion is muted around here by the screams of hate being flung across the aisles. The size and scope of political violence are huge, diverse, and difficult to understand. Our society is facing increased tensions, frustrations, divisions, and we are lashing out at each other more intensely every day. We need to come together to solve this. It’s a serious issue, calling for serious discussion by the adults in the room. Screaming at each other, pointing fingers, does not fix the problem. It’s time for serious people to come up with serious answers. Like mass murders, against the total number of Americans we off-by-gun each year, over 46,000 in 2023, the numbers for either mass murder or political violence are extremely low. The numbers of dead statistically do not make this a priority even. However, the effects on our national psyche are immense whether it’s our leaders are being mowed down or our kids are being senselessly gunned down. When you fear going to the mall, being in a crowd, or it’s too dangerous to run for office, speak out, even sing your song or tell a joke, that changes our society and culture by violence, not by a free choice.
The author’s issue is that he just does not define or understand the problem. His lifetime of fighting his perceived enemy will not let him rise above the fog of his war against liberals. The problem is American violence, specifically political violence. The author believes, once again, in his familiar form, that liberals are the problem. Worse yet, he talks a lot about political violence, provides an admitted incomplete, partial, skewed, cherry-picked, spin database without actually defining what is his definition of political violence even is in his article or, more importantly, his database. Sayin it’s just the Democrats fault will never fix the problem. If you exterminated what your side so eloquently calls “the vermin” magically, you would still have too much political violence. Both sides are using violence to solve problems too often. And not just political; almost any problem today is being solved by someone with a gun. Both sides. I can’t end conservative political violence and expect to get the job done either.
That’s because the author has missed the real point: the problem is political violence or PV. Political parties are not the problem; individual people are the problem. And the problem comes from all walks of life for all sorts of reasons. Some political, some not so much, but resulting in PV anyways. Kirk’s guy may have done it from love, or what he thought was love. Others have been racial. Others looking for some notoriety. All sorts of motivations can result in PV. Most of us would say most of them are just plain crazy. Just focusing on Democrats misses the underlying motivations stemming from frustrations that drive the disenfranchised to destruction. Not to mention the enablers and cheerleaders. Groups and powerful people encouraging and enabling them often stand back just to enjoy the carnage. They are part of the problem. For both sides. Our foreign adversaries are chumming our waters too trying to stir us up and get us hating each other. They are part of the problem, for both sides. The internet exacerbates the problem, they are a huge part of the problem, for both sides, and inputs are global. Our own President, the most powerful man on the planet, blesses this by saying: “I disagree with Charley, I hate my opponents.” Well, what do you do with things you hate?
Our President is currently sending Federal troops into Democratic cities to end crime. He picked cities with falling crime rates saying that the crime there is still too high even if lower than many areas under Republican control. Gee, isn’t PV similar to violent crime? Shouldn’t we pick parties with lower PV rates saying PV there is still too high? Why attack the preponderance of PV while we attack the lesser of priorities for crime?
I contend we need to solve the problem for all Americans, not just one party, starting by defining what we are calling political violence. Otherwise, you just end up STILL with too much PV, now only coming from the right. That sounds like something that only a autocrat or dictator would find as a great manner to expedite his cause of one-party control. At least that’s what the last guy did to rid his country of his perceived vermin.

It’s a great chart. Did you do it or plagiarize someone else? Is there a source, sources, or is this data based on your experience and knowledge of history? Which you call facts. You say you tell the truth and the experts are lying. You say you tell the truth and the media is lying. Given your list, given their lists, where are the outages or differences.
Some is in the definition of political violence which you do not provide. I find including foreign actors to prove Democrats bad a big ingenuous. I find counting violence against police raids, especially stealth raids, strange when you don’t count most instances of police brutality to citizens, usually of the brown or black persuasion. Sans a definition of political violence, and there are a few, just not sure what you are counting.
I agree, you are right, the people inciting and doing political violence should take ownership and responsibility for their actions. The way the 1/6/2021 rioters and Republicans do not take ownership, did not take responsibility, but it really does not matter for conservatives because conservatives like to pardon all conservative protestors and conservative perpetrators of pollical violence from Federal crimes. If that does not call for unity and healing, nothing does. Hey, there were all right, all white, so yet another perk. Was not that pardon in itself an act of political violence? According to court records and from her book: Trump closed the door of the dressing room. Immediately, Trump lunged at Carroll, pushing her against the wall, bumping her head quite badly, and putting his mouth on her lips. Carroll shoved him back. Utterly shocked by unexpected attack, Carroll burst out in awkward laughter. She could hardly process the insanity of the situation. She also hoped, at least at first, that laughter would bruise his ego and cause him to retreat. But Trump did not stop. He seized both of her arms and pushed her up against the wall again, bumping her head a second time. While pinning Carroll against the wall with his shoulder, Trump jammed his hand under her coat dress and pulled down her tights. Trump opened his overcoat and unzipped his pants. Trump then pushed his fingers around Carroll’s genitals and forced his penis inside of her. Carroll resisted, struggling to break free. She tried to stomp his foot with her high heels. She tried to push him away with her one free hand (as she kept holding her purse with the other). Finally, she raised a knee up high enough to push him out and off her. Carroll ran out of the dressing room, out of Bergdorf’s, and on to Fifth Avenue. The whole attack lasted two to three minutes.

And of course he did that shit in front of an audience. You can’t imagine that, in light of the Russia lies fell apart,Trump’s enemies could have falsely accused him. It’s interesting that the sexual assault allegations didn’t surface during his run against killery rotten Cunton. It’s scary how easily someone can be accused and prosecuted by liars. And just look at how the communist monkeys in New York changed laws into felony charges and prosecuted Trump for bullshit that had never been prosecuted before. But what happened? He’s still standing, asshole!!! And James Comey is going to jail. And that’s just the beginning. The left can’t kill us all.

You can’t imagine that, in light of the Russia lies fell apart, Trump’s enemies could have falsely accused him.” That’s a many splendored pieces of logic, not bad Seth, but I think I can see a few fallacies like: If you think only rapes with an audience can be charged, there will be few rapes in America. Or you do realize that in the Access Hollywood tape, Trump actually tells an audience this is what he does. In his own words. On tape. Actually, I think Trump is up to 28 accusers, many who tell a similar tale of the groper groping as groping seems to be his favorite sexual abuse. His own wife accused him and then withdrew the allegation and went shopping with a gold card (kidding). Many have entered the legal system, but only Carroll went the distance. There is even one 13-year old complainant from Trump’s time with his best friend Epstein. Attacking Trump In court is expensive, time consuming, and emotionally draining. He seems to enjoy the process, certainly drags it out. Even seasoned prosecutors think twice about taking a guy to court that will only be resolved after the prosecutor retires. If you’re looking to hang victory scalps off your belt, Trump is not your best choice. Your timing argument also falls short in that Trump sexual abuse allegations have been going on for decades. And it’s grown from 24 in this article to 28 victims today as more come forward. That’s a good audience, or a very busy boy.
Two of “the audience” testified, under oath, with perjury attached against Trump. The jury determined, via the verdict, their stories were true. Or true enough for civil law. Trump did not sue them for perjury, defamation, just sat there and took it in front of an audience. Jessica Leeds testified that Trump groped her on an airplane in the late 1970s. Natasha Stoynoff, A journalist, testified that Trump forced her against a wall and kissed her while she was at his Mar-a-Lago resort for an interview in 2005. Further, Dr. Leslie Lebowitz, a clinical psychologist, testified she evaluated Carroll and found that she had been harmed by an assault. Trump did not sue for perjury or offer contesting expert witness testimony.
I think if you read the court case, see what the jury heard, listen to the witnesses, that if you come away with the judge, jury, press, etc. all being rigged —— pretty much you do not believe in American justice having any validity.
The Russia lies did not fall apart. Nor was Trump exonerated. Muller just could not find sufficient evidence to indict. From The Guardian: “Mr Mueller and his team concluded that they were unable to charge the president with a crime, but could not exonerate him either.” Mueller said there was much smoke, but with so many liars and the incarcerated knowing they would be pardoned, and they were, pretty hard to find the smoking gun. Not going to flip this gaggle of criminals. My take has always been: no Presidential candidate before Trump EVER met with the RUSSIANS. PERIOD. NEVER. Team Trump held what various sources contend are a multitude of meetings and contacts. The Senate subcommittee counted over 100 contacts, NYTimes said over 140. It was estimated that 25 people were aware of the Russian contacts and over 15 were known to have them. Heck, you’ve seen the major meetings attended by Russian spies and team Trump. We know Russia meddled in our election and we know Trump benefitted over Hillary for it. To imagine that Team Trump did not expect to benefit from these contacts is like saying you’re at a free all you can eat whorehouse and you suddenly announce you are on a fasting diet. Not bloody likely. But we couldn’t catch him, we did catch a lot of crime, Trump pardoned them all, and we move on, not forward, on.
The left, or anyone, did not falsely accuse Trump of the sexual abuse and defamation of EJ Carrol. It was adjudicated in a court of law and Trump had little defense. The left did not falsely accuse Trump of Stormygate where the intent was to rig the 2016 election by squashing a whorey story. The left did not falsify Trump’s business record felonies; they were documented by Trumpco in his financial files. The left did not falsify Trump’s ripping off his University or his charity; the students and the financial ledgers did and Trump paid out. Your claim falls short if you read the court transcripts to hear what the judges and jurors heard in these cases. It’s convenient to scream “rigged,” but really —- how many cases in how many places and never once, does Trump come up aces. Unlike your musings garnered from the blogsphere, this stuff is on the record, subject to perjury, adjudicated in a court of law from a nation built on the rule of law. Man’s law. Our law.

Have you seen the “Revenge and Retribution List?” We’ve all read Patel’s, but have you seen Trump’s? OK, I am sure Comey will be another story, but let’s get real. The only lawyer Trump could find was his personal insurance lawyer from Florida. WTF is an insurance lawyer and who has a personal one? But she is not a Federal Prosecutor, she has never been to federal court, and she’s going up against one of the best defense lawyers in America. She got the job because the previous guy got fired for saying about the case: “you have got to be fucking kidding.” There’s a litany of memos, some from her own office, saying this case is a loser. And the chief testimony against him has judges on the record siding with Comey and saying the damning testimony is questionable. On the record. In writing. Adjudicated. I think we are about to see an epic crash and burn with her taking a huge CLM (career limiting move) which she totally deserves. And her predecessor who ran from the case is a respected Republican of both the RINO and MAGA sets. How many other good, experienced lawyers passed on the case before she of little skills, less experience, said: “sure, I’ll giver er a whack.” Is she that desperate to take a case where she will be clearly swinging for the fences without a bat? For skills, she went to UofMiami, rated at the bottom of the first half of law schools. On her first federal outing, indicting a ham sandwich, she went for three charges and got two. No one helped, the other 300 lawyers ducked which is laudatory for her. Surprising even. And why did she not get the third bite at the ham sandwich? The third charge. Crook judge perhaps? Rigged game maybe? Or might be that she handed in the wrong paperwork for the third charge. Ooops. Her adversary is Patrick Fitzgerald, with degrees in economics and mathematics from Amherst College, Phi Beta Kappa, and a Harvard JD. Bottom line: Comey can’t wait to get to court and will probably go for an early dismissal, expedited trial date, or both. My bet is it will never reach the jury and somehow, which the magic marketing that our brand master general creates, that will be the Democrats fault. This scandal could move very fast.
