Bill Clinton: Obamacare is the 'Craziest thing in the world'

Former President Bill Clinton delivered a speech this Monday on behalf of Hillary’s campaign, slamming the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as “crazy.”

Clinton portrayed Obamacare as irrational public policy that punishes the hard-working middle class by upping premiums and decreasing coverage. 

“You’ve got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have healthcare and then the people are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half,” said Clinton to a Michigan audience. “It’s the craziest thing in the world.” 

“The people that are getting killed in this deal are small businesspeople and individuals who make just a little too much to get any of these subsidies,” he continued.  

Many believe that a Hillary Clinton presidency would differ little from Obama’s, but Bill wants to make it clear that his wife wants to do something about the disaster we know as Obamacare. 

Clinton encouraged his audience to vote for Hillary as a way to “put the awful legacy of the last 8 years behind us and the 7 years before that when we were practicing trickle-down economics and no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash.” 

In terms of Obamacare, the former president’s words aren’t quite on par with what his wife has said in the past:

“As president, I’ll defend the Affordable Care Act, build on its successes, and go even further to reduce costs,” said Hillary in January. 

Hillary has fought for a socialized model of healthcare throughout her career. “One of the things she always worked on was advancing this conception, this idea that healthcare should be a right and not a privilege,” said Iowa Senator Tom Harkin. 

Hillary promoted such ideas in the 1990s as First Lady and later as a New York Senator. She had moved up to the position of Secretary of State by the time the ACA was signed, but many believe that she played a crucial role in making Obama’s signature healthcare law a reality. 

Editor’s note: While this is strange because it completely contradicts Hillary’s messages in the past, it could very well be a signal that she is about to change her stance on Obamacare.
