A Clinton Dropout Contingency Plan? Liberal Media Avoiding It.
Concerns regarding Hillary Clinton’s fragile health are all over the news, but what doesn’t seem to be in the mainstream news is a backup plan.
Conservative media sources have begun to contemplate what may happen if Hillary’s health forces her to drop out of the race, but the liberal media refuses to even consider it.
Clinton is almost 69 years old, and if you take this at face value, losing consciousness as a result of pneumonia is a very serious illness.
“Hillary Clinton’s weekend health scare already has started to stir speculation about whether Democratic officials should be discussing the possibility of a Plan B, in case they need to hastily arrange for a replacement nominee,” writes Fox News’ Adam Shaw. The smaller conservative outlets are all following suit.
CNN, MSNBC, and Huffington Post remain silent.
According to Democratic Party bylaws, the DNC has the power to appoint (by majority vote) a candidate to fill Clinton’s spot if she is forced to drop out of the race. Potential candidates include Clinton running mate Tim Kaine, Vice President Joe Biden, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren.
This scenario is unlikely, however, as Hillary would have to step down voluntarily in order for such a meeting to occur. But it’s still worth considering.
Former DNC Chairman Don Fowler is one of the few Democrats urging his party to take action. “Now is the time for all good political leaders to come to the aid of their party,” he said to Politico. “I think the plan should be developed by 6 o’clock this afternoon.”
Fowler expects Hillary to recover from her bout of pneumonia (with which she was diagnosed last Friday), but says it would be a mistake to move forward without a contingency plan. “It’s something you would be a fool not to prepare for,” he said on Monday. “She better get well before she gets back out there because if she gets back out there too soon, it might happen again,” he added.
Fowler know that if Clinton’s health prevents her from continuing as a presidential candidate and the party hasn’t come up with a backup plan, there is virtually no chance the Dems will win the election.
“There should be a concerted, unified effort on behalf of the president and the Democratic leaders in the House and the Senate and from the officials of the DNC as well – I think unanimity would be absolutely critical,” says Fowler. “The quicker that unanimity develops, the easier and better the process.”
Editor’s note: Tim Kaine or Joe Biden are the obvious choices and might have a shot if the timing is right. But either would self destruct when Bernie claims the crown. Warren would self destruct as soon as she opens her mouth, she’s just that bad.
