Biden is a triple-threat to American security (Part Three of Three)
President Biden’s threat to the national security AND personal safety comes in three major policy areas – reduced law enforcement, open borders and foreign policy. Whether his failure to address crime is incompetence, malfeasance or diminished mental capacity is arguable. We just know that he is not doing his job to protect the American people. In the first and second installments of the three-part series, we dealt with reduced law enforcement and the immigration problem. In this commentary, we take up foreign policy.
Foreign policy
The primary responsibility of the federal government – and the President of the United States – is to protect American citizens from all foreign threats. To do that, the United States must maintain its position as a world leader – with indisputably the strongest military in the world. It is the adage that a strong offense is the best defense.
Biden is not the first President to weaken America’s leadership in the world. Past presidents have all assured the American people – and more importantly, the rest of the world – that America has the most powerful military in the world.
Unfortunately, when there was a need to use it and prove it, America failed to live up to the bragging. It does not seem that the most powerful military in the world should have lost every war since the great victory of World War II. We settled with a draw in Korea – and clearly lost in Vietnam and Syria.
In 1991, we forced Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait, but we failed to drive him out of power. That led to led to the second Iraq War, which succeeded in toppling Hussein — but then we lost the post war “peace” and America waged another war of attrition for another eight years at which time America basically surrendered.
But none of these foreign policy failures and partial failures impacted as much on the reputation and leadership of the United States as Biden’s unilateral surrender in Afghanistan. It shook the confidence in our allies and empowered the adventurism of our adversaries. It was a monumental human tragedy for the Afghan people
Biden’s decision created a greater danger for the American people – not only in America but for those who serve or live abroad. By strengthening the recruitment and deployment of American-hating terrorists, Biden has made attacks on Americans more likely – perhaps inevitable.
In a small way, we already saw one such attack when Malik Faisal Akram, a Muslim foreign national, who was on the British terrorist watch list, took four hostages at a synagogue in Texas to win the release of an imprisoned terrorist serving an 85-year sentence. The FBI managed to kill him without any harm to the hostages. His recorded message called upon Muslim brother to comet to America to commit acts of terror. There may well be some taking up his malignant invitation. It serves as notice that the Muslim terrorists are not forgetting about their Jihad against America.
Thanks to Biden’s surrender in Afghanistan, America lost an ally, access to natural assets, an on-the-ground intelligence network and a strategically important military base.
It was predicted at the time that Biden’s action would send a signal of American weakness to friends and foes alike. That is already happening. Virtually every adversary is talking tough – threatening — and taking actions against the best interests and national security of the United States.
North Korea is test launching missiles that can reach the United States. China is moving into Afghanistan – and threatening the United States against any action in the South China Sea. There is talk that Biden’s display of American weakness has Chinese President Xi Jinping looking more covetously at Taiwan.
The diminution of American leadership and power has our allies in NATO less willing to take up American interests. Biden’s call for allies to place sanctions on Russia if Putin invades Ukraine is getting a mixed response from such NATO nations as France and Germany. So far, Germany has not indicated a willingness to shut down the Russian pipeline as a punishment. There is even talk that some NATO countries may not sanction Russia if there was only a “minor incursion” – the kind Biden all but invited in his one-year anniversary speech.
Having lost one ally in his first year, Biden is about to lose another – Ukraine. No one really believes that there are enough sanctions to make Putin set aside his desire to take Ukraine into his new Soviet Union. Under Biden’s leadership, the United States will fail to exert effective leadership – and the world will become a much more dangerous place for Americans.
The loss of world leadership may not seem like an immediate threat to the lives and well-being of the average American citizen, but the suffering will be felt in economic strangulation as we will no longer are able to compete as effectively in the world market.
It will be felt with Russia, China, North Korea and Iran freely attacking the United States with cyber warfare, Internet meddling in elections and disruption campaigns on social media.
What happens overseas has a direct impact on the security and safety of every American citizen. Having lost world leadership, it may be more difficult to restore America’s strength and leadership in the eyes of the world than fix the crime and immigration fiascos. But Biden is not working on any of them.
Summary of the three-part series
Though America’s decline and vulnerability has been occurring over several presidential administrations, it has never suffered more serious damage in such a short time as it has under Biden’s spineless ineptitude. These three policy disasters – crime, immigration and foreign policy – stand out as the most dangerous among a number of other failures. His response to the Covid Pandemic has resulted in more deaths on Biden’s watch than on Trump’s – even though Biden has had the vaccine as the primary tool for his entire presidency. His policy to stimulate the economy at a time it was already over heating contributed to the worst inflation in 60 years.
In only one year, Biden has degraded American security and the people’s personal safety. There is an uneasiness in knowing that he will be in office for three more years – and even if he does not complete his term, the next in line may be an even more inept and dangerous person.
So, there ‘tis.
Man, I’m as torn as conservatives are on the whole Russia thing. But at least I am consistent in my anti war stance.
There is NO reason for us to be involved in defending Ukraine. They are NOT even in NATO. We have NO duty to protect them. We have no obligation to send our sons and daughters to die for Ukraine.
Half of y’all are siding with Russia the other half are accusing Biden of purposely starting a war. And then there’s Larry, any time we can send our kids to die for the military industrial complex, it’s a good idea.
Trump was right when he said we shouldn’t be fighting other peoples battles. He was right to arrange for us to pull out of Afghanistan. He is the first Republican since I have been voting that hasn’t started a war. That may be the only thing I liked about him.
Ben …. Wow! Surprised to see you in common cause with Tucker Carlson in resurrecting the old Nevil Chamberlain “peace in our time” strategy. Let the madman dictator take what he wants. That makes you an extreme isolationist in the tradition of Republicans like Burton K. Wheeler before WWII. I think your problem is that you cannot seem to understand American national interests and security short of New York being invaded. And once again, your accusation against a person who lost a Marine grandson in Afghanistan is graceless — to say the least. You claim to be younger than me, but you sound like an echo of an earlier age of isolationists.
Yo, wait a second, I get chastised when I mention your dead grandson, but you don’t ever miss an opportunity to point out your grandson died in a needless war and how eager you are to send other people’s sons and grandsons to die also. I served, my son adult son served, and most of my co workers have served. Not one of the younger guys I work with feel good about the missions they were sent to accomplish. Why destroy more lives for something half a world away?
If I’m an extreme isolationist ( I’m not, I am just anti war) then so is a majority of your party, including trump. All the Fox talking heads seem to be siding with the mad dictator ( as you say) and Russia… I can’t tell if it’s because Daddy Vlad has something on them, or they just admire the white ethno state that is Russia. Either way, there’s no reason to rush into another needless war. Unless you stand to make more money off it.
Great comments Larry, Moe, but where the heck is Curly Frank? I would add a fourth area, energy policy. I see the stool as having four legs like a bar stool. I do believe we have the most powerful “conventional military” in the world. But our military is much better on a large battle field or an open oceanic expanse. Our military is not very good at guerilla warfare, and in the case of Korea and Vietnam, we had the issue of corrupt politicians. Personally, I am not strongly against Putin because Putin is strongly against gays and LGBTQ+ in general which is causing our society to totally unravel in so many more dangerous ways! LGBTQ is one of our biggest threats, and Putin is speaking for the majority of Americans! Putin is a man’s man, just look at that pic of him riding the horse bareback (his bareback) and you will see what I mean. And another big threat is all this CRT crap. Putin thinks that is ridiculous too! I am not so sure that it was a monumental tragedy for all Afghan people, seems mostly the tragedy was centered around Kabul, women that wanted educations, and only those that sided with and/or helped the USA. The rest are back to growing poppy plants and shipping them here in the narcotic form in a business venture that the non-interfering Chinese are involved in with those Mexican cartels, back to subjugating and suppressing women, and local tribal fights that they seem to enjoy instead of watching NFL. Most Americans did not give a crap about Afghanistan and still don’t. Most of us already know that China’s honeymoon with Taliban will end when Taliban gets the bill. So lets just be patient and glad we got out. And once China realizes that Russia really does not have much to offer China, that honeymoon will end as well. And it is probably wise that our NATO allies begin to see their own interests center stage more since our slogan for the past four years has been Make America Great Again – which does not include NATO allies. Let’s face it, if we had to choose betweren freezing in the winter or a warm toasty Russian pipeline, we would all pick the pipeline. Successive US Administrations have failed to present an overwhelming case as to why they should be our NATO allies – and younger people taking over think differently. And by the way, I did agree with some of Trump’s policies, I am not a Trump hater. And that tired old argument of “What happens overseas affects all Americans!? Really? How did the Vietnam war affect all Americans besides the cost of the war, our classmates being killed, etc. Now adays, Americans go to Vietnam for vacation and now we are putting factories there! Maybe it would have been great if we had lost that war ten years earlier, imagine all the dead and wounded guys that would agree! By the way, I am a Vietnam War Era naval veteran. I do agree, Biden has opened the door to us being less secure from crime, open borders, energy, and foreign policy. He gets very low scores from me on this. But he gets high grades from me for calling Doocy a dumb S.O.B. And I still am enjoying not having tRUMP and his arrogance on the tv every night. So maybe we should all just work on taking our country back by: 1) Requiring our local and state officials to fund police properly; 2) Drown our federal officials in phone calls about foreign policy and what we want – and require the Fed to publish complete histories on foreign situations beforehand – there is much more to Ukraine than most Americans know; 3) Stop all of this LGBTQ, BLM, Antifa, and CRT crap and again, drown our federal and state officials in phone calls and emails – by the way, NASCAR is funding LGBTQ in Raleigh NC, check out the NASCAR website, this article: https://www.nascar.com/news-media/2022/01/05/carolinas-lgbt-chamber-of-commerce-announces-partnership-with-nascar/ They did an article but did not release it till middle off season so wait till all of the rednecks buy stuff with a NASCAR logo that is now rainbow colors!; 4) Drown our state and federal officials in phone calls about energy and better policy and lets get independent again!; 5) Fund Texas to complete the wall if the Fed will not do it, and lets stop attempting to change voter demographics in red states by shipping illegal aliens to red states – ship them to all of the solid blue states, heck ship them all to Deleware; 6) Like number 3, lets take back our public schools and stop the teaching of CRT and alternative life styles such as transgender crap since the APA DM 10 does consider gender dysphoria to be a mental disorder from which one can recover! We got the midterms coming up. These are the issues we should be asking our candidates about!
Tom.
This has to be the funniest posts on PBP ever.
I love how you claim LGBTQ is the greatest threat to America and the fanboy all over Putin riding a horse with no shirt on.
But then you explained you were in the Navy and that explains everything.
