Why Can’t Democrats Accept the Pandemic is Over in America?

Yes … I know … we still have cases of Covid-19.  But the virus has reduced to the level of our perennial influenza outbreaks.  It is no longer a “pandemic” IN AMERICA.  I am not writing about other nations around the world.

With more than 60 percent (about 212 million) of our population vaccinated – and another 27 million recoverees – we are approaching the cusp of herd immunity.

The positivity rate – the cases discovered by testing – has dropped below five percent.  That was the number that the scientists told us in the past would allow TOTAL re-opening.  That was then, but not so much now.  The fearmongers are still calling for masks indoors, social distancing and keeping kids – the least affected age group – out of schools.

Out of an unwarranted “abundance of caution” many restaurants and retail establishment are still requiring masks.  I can go mask free in my Publix grocery store, but not at my Walgreens.  I still had to put a mask on for literally three seconds to pass through the door of a local restaurant.  Then I removed it on my way to the table – where people with no masks surrounded me.  That is just silliness.

The hospitalization and death rates are dropping faster than a lady-of-the-night facing a $20 bill.  In the spirit of never giving up on a useful crisis, the major news media has virtually stopped reporting on the lowering death rate.  That little screen-shrinking column on the right-hand side now focuses on vaccination numbers – and especially those who are NOT getting them. I swear … If these folks covered Santa Claus, it would be a report on the dangers of obesity.

President Biden’s senior Covid-19 advisor, Andy Slavitt, noted that “The virus is running out of places to be communicable.” He is referring to the low positivity rate.  This means that whether you wear a mask or not, it is increasingly unlikely that you will even come in contact with an infected person in public.

Yes, it is possible.  And yes, people are still contracting Covid.  And yes, there are hot spots – or more appropriately “warm spots.”

BUT … the odds of contracting the virus are getting very, very long. And they are virtually impossible for the more than 240 million folks who are vaccinated or recovered.  That leaves about 90 million unvaccinated.  More than half of them (50 million) are below the age of 12. And they are not eligible for the vaccine and are the least affected age group.

As I have so often stated.  I have no problem with folks wearing masks if it makes them feel better for some reason.  It may not be based on science, but it is a free country.  Their masking is no harm to me.  But I do object to being forced to carry and wear a mask when there is no good reason.  As of this writing, Target still requires masks.  Walmart does not.  Based on that, I will not shop at Target.  That is MY free choice.

Based on the science, since I am a fully vaccinated person, I have no need to wear a mask ANYWHERE – indoors, outdoors or in crowds.  For me – and 240 million others – the Pandemic is essentially over.  We now only need to wait for the politicians and the media to start listening to the scientists as they have so often told us to do – and to stop scaring the kids.

The CDC says that IF you are fully vaccinated, you may forego wearing a face mask in public or at gatherings.

Q: How do we know if someone’s vaccinated or not?

A: Ask them if they support trump…

    • MAXX

Q: HOW CAN WE FIND SHEEP THAT VOTED DEMOCRAT?

A: THEY MAKE STUPID COMMENTS ABOUT POLITICS, LIVE IN FEAR, AND STILL WEAR MASKS.

    • Rick

If you are still alive in three years and not sick as all get out, we know that you did not get the toxic shot. Most of the liberals will be gone and what a wonderful world it will be.

      • Angelika

I so wished you are right on this, but somehow I have my doubts….

      • Ben

        Rick,
Conservatives have been whining for months now that trump hasn’t got enough credit for the vaccines.
You say vaccines will kill you within 3 years.

Are you implying that trump is trying to kill progressives ?

        • Dan Tyree

That would be ok with me Ben

    • Richard Hennessy

I support President Trump’s conservative and moral policies, and I’m vaccinated. Does that mean that sensible people support Trump’s policies and are vaccinated? I believe the highest percentage of any age group that are vaccinated are the older folks, like me. I believe they are also generally Trump supporters. The non-vaccinated younger group who tend to be liberals to leftists are the least vaccinated. Is that the impression being pushed by the media?

      • Karen S. King

I support Trump as does my husband and our 32 year old daughter. We are not doing the shot and neither are we doing the masks.

    • Bob

Why do conservatives always try to divide the country. The pandemic isn’t political. The author of this story is a partisan hack

    • Karen S. King

I don’t give a rat’s butt what the CDC says. I’m not getting the shot, nor am I wearing a freakin mask! I am not getting a vaccine with that concoction they made up and got approved in less than 3 months! No way! No how! Oh and By the way….I support Trump; as a matter of fact my whole family supports him! But who a person supports doesn’t have a daggone thing to do with whether they get the shot or not. Evidently YOU support Touchy-Feely, Sleepy, Hiden_Biden.

Hey, I also have a burning question,
Why can’t republicans accept that the election is over?

    • MAXX

THE SAME REASON DEMOCRATS COULD NOT ACCEPT BUSH WON IN 2000. VOTER FRAUD! ON BOTH SIDES. REMEMBER CHAD??

  3. Joe

They want people to be afraid. The people will give up freedoms for being safe. They will continue as long as they can.

  4. Lee

Or they could be supporting common sense! If you feel safer or more comfortable wearing a mask, please do! As far as I’m concerned, it’s still America & as a U.S. citizen I have the right to choose!

    • Dan Tyree

Republicans accept the fact that the election was stolen

      • Karen S. King

It was stolen! How do you explain the number of votes for Trump going from 5 hundred and some thousand down to 4hundred and some thousand while they were showing the voting results?

    • Karen S. King

That’s exactly right! If person is scared to be around me because I don’t wear one then they can keep away from me. In Virginia the 30th of June can’t get here fast enough. A person will no longer be allowed to wear a mask in public without being fined for wearing a mask in public. Yes! It will become illegal to wear one in public again!

      • Ben

        Karen,
That seems like a huge government over reach. As a first responder, I come in contact w a hundred or more people a day, homeless, sick, injured… are you saying the State of Virginia says I can’t legally wear a mask to protect myself, my customers, and my family? What kind of backwards cr*p is that?

  5. Guest

The problem with all of this is that the Maskerbaters are absolutely convinced, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that millions will die if they don’t wear a mask. Facts mean nothing. Statistics mean nothing (as if they ever did). The Maskerbaters just KNOW.
All of which is okay by me and most of my acquaintances – just so long as they don’t force their views on me and mine.
Not to disparage any religion or belief system but these folks have become the 21st century Jehovahs Witnesses, going door to door to make you understand. You roll your eyes and close the door on them as quickly as is possible.
