The headline is not a figurative statement, but a literal one. I offer that prediction after seeing the latest round of Democrat leftwing narratives describing their Draconian theoretical aftermath of a Trump victory.
The Democrat/media combine launched the anti-Trump resistance movement within 24 hours of his 2016 upset election – which particularly upset Hillary Clinton and the Democrat/media combine. Their mantra was “never normalize Trump” – and they have adhered to that calling.
However, their strategic narrative has been getting more bizarre and more extreme as time goes by. They elevated a riot on Capitol Hill to the level of an insurrection, and even a coup attempt. The narratives suggest that the American Republic was on the precipice of collapse when in fact the foundations and pillars of our democracy were under no threat at all. The only significant result of the riot in terms of the functions of government was a few hours delay in the certification of the election.
Following January 6, 2021, Democrats have been proffering the narrative of some nationwide underground force is at the ready to rise and overthrow the government to make Trump president-for-life. They warned of violence at the Capitol and around the country on the first anniversary of the riot. The National Guard was called out. Barricades were erected around the Capitol Building. Nothing – as in nothing – happened. Unless you count the 150 people who showed up on the Capitol grounds with a permit – gave some speeches and left after an hour or so.
For months they advanced the narrative that Trump would refuse to leave office. No matter what you think of his efforts to turn around the election results, he did not make any attempt to remain after the Biden inauguration.
As Democrats get more nervous about defeating Trump a second time, their mendacious narratives are getting nuttier and nuttier. They have currently whipped themselves into a frenzy in trying to convince the American people – especially the Trump voters – that returning him to the Oval Office will literally be the end of the Republic. The end of American democracy. Once in office, they say Trump will never leave after his second term. In raising that canard again, they are obviously following the old “If at first you don’t succeed …” approach.
Since at least half the American public are not buying the insurrection and coup attempt arguments – and not even dissuaded by all those court cases — Democrats and their media cronies are going to the next level of hyperbolic bullcrap. The legal and constitutional reelection of Trump — according to them – would be the end of democracy, the fall of the American Republic. In one fell swoop, we will turn into a fascist dictatorship.
According to Canadian Journalist David Frum – appearing on MSNBC’s Joy Reid show — Trump’s election would be the collapse of constitutional government. It would lead to social unrest, rioting in the streets. Trump would use the power of the presidency to rule by edict … arrest political enemies … shutdown media outlets … unleash an army of armed thugs on the population. He would not leave office at the end of the term, and there would be no ability to force him to leave. These are actual things Frum and others on the left are claiming as if they are facts.
Liz Cheney goes fo far as to say that if Trump is elected by the democratic vote of the people, there will not be another election. Trump will seize power. She is actually peddling that nonsense at every stop on her book tour.
The New York Times, the Washington Post and the Atlantic Magazine are all carrying articles and editorials on this latest nutty leftwing narrative. They claim Trump’s return to the White House would be an existential threat to America. Actually, more than a threat. They proffer it as a certainty. And these articles are being regurgitated by MSNBC and CNN — and others in the Manhattan radical left media silo.
All this fearmongering and hysteria and the election is 11 months off. Now you can see why I facetiously suggested that the next level will be an end of the world political apocalypse – Armageddon — if Trump wins the 2024 presidential election. After all, their angst and anxiety level is not going to simmer down between now and then – and it is not likely that this end-of-democracy rhetoric is going to work any better than all the crap that they have been slinging at Trump for the past seven years.
As I often point out, elections are won or lost depending on what the voters decided to decide on. What will concern them most when they start marking their ballots?
Not long ago, Democrat strategists were advising that Biden should NOT focus on Trump, but rather his own accomplishments – what he has done for the American people. So, Biden talked a lot about jobs and the wonderful economy he delivered to the American people. He even branded this strategy with “Bidenomics.” That turned out to be the Edsel or New Coke of American politics.
Since the American people were not feeling his economic euphoria — and since the crime, immigration, world leadership and the age/Harris issues hang over his campaign like the Sword of Damocles – team Biden has little choice but to return to the Trump strategy.
That was evident in Biden’s pathetic plea, “Don’t compare me to the Almighty, but to the alternative.” Suggesting that he is at least better than a guy he views as an evil and contemptable human being with ninety-one indictments does not come across as high praise.
So … what is left for Biden and Democrats to campaign on? Trump. It is a desperate last-ditch strategy. It is not a good one – since all the vilification and legal actions have not only not crushed Trump, but they seem to have actually put air under his wings.
That means the strategy must be upgraded. They have to take the Trump boogeyman approach to astro heights – as they have been doing. Since the end-of-the-Republic strategy does not seem to be working, they will have to try something even more extreme and nuttier. I am not sure where they can take it from their current outlandish narrative, so I suggest they will have to try an end-of the-world strategy.
Ironically, Biden & Company may have had the winner strategy a couple years ago. And that was to ignore Trump and focus on selling their best issues – such as abortion and jobs. If Biden has any winning issues – and he may not – abortion and jobs are at least his best bet.
Instead, they went on a hate-filled attack on Trump. And as I – and other writers – have suggested, the attacks on Trump were the primary reasons for his rise in the polls. They actually made a beleaguered Trump viable again. In response, they increased the attacks with ridiculous speculative narratives about the end of the American experiment in democracy. And Trump seems to be benefitting again.
The people know better. America is an exceptionally durable Republic. We have strong institutions that provide a balance of powers. We have a people devoted to the constitutional Republic. No President can overpower all of that.
They claim he will appoint dangerous cronies to the Cabinet and other positions. They ignore the fact that the Senate has to confirm his picks. He can appoint federal judges and U.S. Attorneys around country, but they, too, need the approval of Congress. He would not control the Supreme Court or compromise its role of interpreting and upholding the Constitution.
What we are hearing from Biden and those on the left is nothing more than concocted political narratives designed to scare voters. That is what political parties do. What makes this different is how extreme and nutty the narratives have become. The anti-Trump folks cannot abide by the fact that he beat them in 2016 – and could beat them again.
All those folks in fly-over America — who the east coast progressive elites do not understand and do not like – are not obsessed with the evil Trump mantra. They are concerned about the issues that impact on them – inflation and crime. They are not fond of Biden for many reasons – and they really do not like Vice President Harris. That makes the age issue a twofer. Biden is too old to do the job – and the thought that it will fall to Harris is frightening – even to a lot of Democrats. Perhaps, when all is said and done, it will be the age issue that is paramount in the minds of the voters as they cast their ballots.
What the anti-Trump folks fail to realize is that their exaggerated descriptions of Trump are backfiring with the voters. Instead of gaining support, Biden is losing credibility. If all that Biden has is a pitiful claim that at best he is at least better than Trump, he has nothing – and he will lose.
So, there ‘tis.
