Trump Plan to Pay Illegals to Leave Will Actually Save Taxpayers Money

The Trump administration has started paying illegal migrants up to $1,000 each to “self-deport” from the US, and the Department of Homeland Security said it will save taxpayers up to $1 million per family.

Immigrants can avoid arrest by federal immigration agents if they choose to use the Trump administration’s CBP Home app. The DHS will pay for commercial flights out of the US and then send cash once they confirm they’ve left.

Despite shelling out the cash, DHS projects that taxpayers will save 70% over the cost of rounding up and deporting each illegal migrant. It costs taxpayers an average of $17,121 for the feds to arrest, detain, and deport a single illegal immigrant, according to DHS.

Stephen Miller, President Trump’s top policy and homeland security adviser, said on X that the “savings are as much as $1 million per illegal alien family given the long-term costs of free welfare and public support.”

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said that “self-deportation is the best, safest, and most cost-effective way” for illegal immigrants to avoid arrest by ICE.

“Download the CBP Home App TODAY and self-deport,” said Noem.

The first illegal immigrant who cashed in through the program was “allowed” into the US by the Biden administration before choosing to return to Honduras from Chicago, according to DHS.

In Trump’s first 100 days back in the White House, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers already deported nearly 66,000 illegal immigrants, the agency said last week.

“We’re just 100 days into this administration, and thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, ICE is using every tool at its disposal to enforce our country’s immigration laws and protect our communities,” acting ICE director Todd Lyons said.

In the case of these fellows and numbers, I say, “show your work.”

They lie, they falsely define or don’t define line items so hard to compare to anything.

They say, and Goodman takes at face value: “Despite shelling out the cash, DHS projects that taxpayers will save 70% over the cost of rounding up and deporting each illegal migrant. It costs taxpayers an average of $17,121 for the feds to arrest, detain, and deport a single illegal immigrant, according to DHS.”

You know when you see xx,121 —- there’s either fudging going on and they want to make it look “real,” OR there’s a lot of numbers and work behind this, so be transparent and SHOW US THE MONEY.

It’s an impossible number just based on the fact that you don”t know how far — Mexico or Libya? Or what type of flight: military for pomp n circumstance or commercial with a 10x less price tag. HUGE variance dependent on distance and type of conveyance.

They will get some takers, as in they would get some takers for $0, but $1,000 is about 3.5 weeks at minimum wage and about 1 week at median hourly wage.

Now, in the spirit of showing your work, at the current pace of 66k deportees at 100 days; it will take Trump 45 years to deport 11,000,000 illegals signaling that “oh my, we’re gonna need a bigger boat.” Or, if he wants to do it in 4 years, he only needs to have 10 times the resources.

Pushing for a lower number and better outcome, one can say there’s a ramp so the steady-state number is higher yielding a better outcome than 45 years.

Pushing against it is the the supposedly criminals he is deporting all have connections to the court making it easy and getting the ones not in the court system is much, much harder.

Then again, pushing against it is him using military aircraft for show, branding purposes to look tough, costs three times as much as an ICE charter.

And then, look at the people: he’s got FBI, ATF, CBP, military, DEA, ICE, and a partridge in a pear tree for added resources. Look at it taking six guys to arrest one guy in Wisconsin. How many turn up to festoon any deportation cargo flight, like 50? Sure, he can cut back, but it will take more in the future, not less, as those in court fade away and he turns to the street.

You betcha he want to self-deport and they want to pretend it’s a great deal for you.

But they are not transparent, they lie a lot, and there is no support for any of their numbers.

There is also NO WAY Trump can support his campaign promise at this rate, with these policies, and we have yet to see the price tag, but I can promise you —— it will make welfare look like the best bargain you ever bought.

The only way it should work is to fire as many Democrats (officials as well as voters) to make this amount of money. They brought them in and they should pay for their voluntary/comfortable removal. And they shouldn’t mind it.

And then do the same to Republican officials who participated in the same malfeasance as it is the entire Congress that is at fault here. And they shouldn’t mind it.

Ironic that’s it’s a Mexican standoff at that point.

    Jose,
Mexican is not a race. And neither are you I would bet. But you have a point, a weak one, but a point. And so I apologize to any I have offended; I meant not. From CFJC Today leading me to toss out oh so many colorful sayings: “One has to be careful with the use of words, but how careful?

An RCMP report on Wednesday told of a routine traffic stop on Halston Avenue. While the officer was talking to the people in the car, another car pulled up and the occupant of the second car started yelling that there were guns in the first car.

At which point someone in the first car started yelling that it was the people in the second car who had guns.

Backup was called and a very tense situation was resolved when it was found the only ones with guns were the police. When writing the story, I originally said a sort of Mexican standoff had occurred, as it turned out without any guns.

I thought it aptly described the situation but I deleted it and started over because the thought crossed my mind that the term “Mexican standoff” might be considered by some people to be racist.

As it turns out, there’s been quite a bit of debate about whether it is or not. The term itself refers to a situation in which three people face each other with guns drawn. Nobody can make a move because the first one to shoot one of the others will be shot by the third. It’s the stuff of Western movies.

In my view, it is in no way intended as derogatory to Mexicans, but some people think it is.

A lot of sayings involve ethnic groups. “Chinese fire drill,” for example. It describes a prank in which the passengers of a stopped vehicle get out, run around it, and get back in. It’s a form of musical chairs.

The origin of the term itself is unclear, but as the prank itself faded, “Chinese fire drill” began to be used to describe confusion.

Is the term paddy wagon offensive to the Irish? The “hip hip” in “Hip hip hooray” apparently was once (or perhaps still is) offensive to Jews, as the cheer “hep hep” was used as they were herded from their homes in Europe.

“Peanut gallery” is commonly used to describe people who chip in comments that aren’t always useful. At one time, though, it described Black Americans who got the lousiest seats at the back of a theatre.

Many nicknames for ethic groups, of course, are outright racist; it’s when you add a neutral ethnic definition into a saying the meaning of which isn’t self-evident that it becomes more complicated.

The best way to resolve it, as always, is to take the advice of those whose race, culture, or religion is being referenced — regardless of the intention, if they find it offensive, don’t use it.”

We tend to get caught in the weeds with Trump’s hyperbolic approach to things he labels as problems of national security level significance.
How many immigrants after risking life itself on a dream of a better life in America will sell themselves for $1,000 a head and return to the place left for a reason?
Receiving the money do they sign a do not come back agreement? Are the barred from the U.S. for their lifetime?
A family of five plus grandparents, cousins, etc is it a group rate? Trump is a cheapskate with others but is a lavish spender on himself. 1,000 bucks per head is parsimonious.
Don’t trust Trump with numbers, among the multitude of untrustworthy moves he impulsively made for himself. He inflates numbers and deflates number to suit his purposes. Remember he inflated his property values to banks and devalued the same properties for tax evaluation. Then when asked about the rise and fall of his publicly traded stock values his comment was incomprehensible. He thought his stock value on a given day is dependent on how he feels. His emotions are the guide for his stock value.
What does he think a corporation’s stock price is based on? Why would anyone risk investing in DJT stock if they knew they could lose all on a day Trump was having a really bad day in negotiations with Putin over Ukraine. Trump isn’t emotionally stable enough for my money
Knowing Trump’s low esteem for migrants legal and illegal, if he could rationalize permanently disappearing everyone of them ICE caught. He could live with that.
On any day he will think he is king and make decree and see what the traffic will bear and make adjustments after the fact. If anyone other than Trump had to retract and reverse a policy, they would embarrassed and mortified. Not so with Trump, If a decision he made does not go over well. He will say the fault is not his. The buck never stops with him.
