Did you know that Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) wants to abolish ICE? That she supports voting rights for death row inmates? That she was a co-sponsor for the Green New Deal?
According to a recent survey, neither did her constituents.
A new poll published by the Media Research Center (MRC) suggests between 71% and 86% of Democrats and Independents are unaware of the following facts about Kamala Harris:
- She supports a reduction in police budgets.
- She believes that “entering the US illegally” should not be considered a crime.
- She supports “Medicare for All.”
- She wants death row inmates to be able to vote in elections.
- When serving as President Joe Biden’s “Border Czar,” she never once visited a conflict zone.
- She was one of the first co-sponsors of the Green New Deal and even called for a “climate pollution fee.”
- She was rated the nation’s “most liberal senator” in 2019 (this ranking has since been removed from government websites).
- She supports the idea of reparation payments in the form of monthly tax credits to individuals of a qualifying race.
- She backed an idea to use government funds to bail out protestors in 2020.
- She wants to abolish ICE.
Considering Harris’s popularity as the leading (and only) Democratic presidential candidate, it’s more than worrisome that so many of her constituents are unaware of the above facts. Let’s take a look at her views on Immigration and Customs Enforcement, of which 77% of survey respondents were unaware:
“Listen, I think there’s no question that we’ve got to critically examine ICE and it’s role and the way that it is being administered and the work it is doing and we need to probably think about starting from scratch because there is a lot that is wrong,” Kamala told NBC’s Kasie Hunt. ‘First of all, I don’t think that the government should be in the position of separating families – and that is clearly part of what is happening at ICE and DHS… [ICE’s] mission is very much in question and has to be reexamined.”
The NBC interview was filmed in San Diego, California near the Otay Mesa Detention center, a medium security prison overlooking the US/Mexico border. Harris visited the facility in June 2018 to speak with detained migrant mothers who had been separated from their children.
Considering the fact that Harris recently accepted the DNC’s nomination for presidential candidacy, you would think the media would be abuzz with any and all opinions voiced in her past. Surprisingly, as noted in an article published on CatholicVote.org, major networks ABC, CBS, and NBC have blatantly avoided eight of the ten issues mentioned above in the past month.
“This poll was conducted in August, when the Vice President was receiving the most intense news coverage of her political career,” explains Rich Noyes of the NewsBusters blog. “Yet our survey of Democratic voters and pro-Biden Independents, who say their top source for news about the campaign are these same networks, shows the damage caused by today’s one-sided news coverage…The fact that huge majorities don’t even know about these issues is damning evidence of the media’s selective and partisan approach to covering the 2024 presidential campaign.”

It seems to me that the media’s reticence is a strategy to make Harris – once the most liberal senator in the US – attractive to a broader audience, many of whom feel they have no alternative but to vote for Harris in the upcoming election.
Harris was a shoo-in for the candidacy when President Joe Biden announced he would not be running in the election. She accepted the DNC nomination unopposed and without running in a primary. Not surprisingly, the Dems even decided to exclude a Palestinian speaker from the convention itself (presumably to avoid tough conversations).
Looking at all of these facts together, Harris’s entire campaign seems a bit…fabricated.
The MRC poll referenced in this article involved 800 registered Democrats and 400 registered Independents who voted for President Joe Biden in 2020. It was conducted during the first week of this month and published on August 14th, 2024.
